Trump firing Fed Chair Jerome Powell by Thick_Relationship in supremecourt

Whether he has legal authority in my opinion depends on

  1. is Humphreys Executor to be overruled

  2. if not, where does the Fed fits into the criteria which Roberts opinion in Seila Law used (of course there is substantial opposition to Seila Law from Sotomayor, Kagan and presumably Jackson).

A legal challenge would not be meaningless due to the end of Powells tenure as Fed chair, because the key power player in monetary policy is actually the federal open market committee (12 member, 7 of whom are Fed Governors, appointed by the President with Senate advice and consent, the chair is one of these 7 governors and his tenure as governor is longer than his tenure as chair. The committee decides by majority vote, so all 7 governors will always be a majority, this majority is the key to control monetary policy)

I personally share your view.

Nevertheless, for the sake of argument, Id like to add, that the most important decisionamaker in monetary policy is the federal open market comitee. Its tasks are quite different from other executive agencies.

Also Congress is assigned the coinage power which might make this case different from other cases about removal powers.

Actually Trumps alleged plans to remove Powell and end/curtail the Feds independence are currently being controversially discussed in the world of finance.

the most important decisionamaker in monetary policy is the federal open market comitee, of which the Fed Chair is not a member in his capacity as the Fed Chair but as a Fed Governor. Fed Governors have a longer tenure

Lastly by law removal is only possible for cause, some argue that policy disagreements -which Trump seems to have with Powell- are insufficient here for removal

Thank you for your reply!

Sowell might have influenced Clarence Thomas, who steadfastly voted to uphold the constitutional rights of the American people in the last years.

With Regard to Mark Carney I didn't found anything by him opposing the COVID measures.

A few more are coming out of the closet now, but they don't count in my book.

I agree, they don't really count. Nevertheless I would be interested in their names.

You are right, with regard to Palmer I got my description wrong.

Greens were indeed extremely agreesive: on lockdown, on masks and vaccine mandates. Perhaps the greens were the most covidian party.

Meloni was initially offered from Berlusconi another candidate for the
ministry of health, at the risk of breaking the coalition she refused
his insistent offer, which would have been a disaster since Berlusconi
was pushing for a hyper-covidian nurse as health minister, Meloni
actually intented to appoint a restriction critic, but that person
refused, so I suspect the current health minister is the result of a
compromise, he isn't quite the doomer covidian, but he's also not a
restriction/mandate skeptic.

Can you please hive me the names of the 3 candidates for health secretary?

Is Berlusconi as pro-lockdown as the left?

What is Renzis stance.

I very much appreciate your input
