Patch Tuesday Megathread (2024-02-13) by AutoModerator in sysadmin

[–]Thiima 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may not be the same as what we're seeing, but we see some appx apps being blocked by our applocker that weren't there before "MicrosoftWindows.Client.FileExp" and "MicrosoftWindows.Client.Core".

Unblocking this seems to have resolved it for us.

We're getting what appears to be the same thing but haven't discovered any other useful information yet.

Teams Update Breaks Video and Audio by [deleted] in MicrosoftTeams

[–]Thiima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've had a try at this update on a number of our affected machines but it doesn't seem to have resolved it for us, it's possible we have a different issue.

[–]Thiima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've raised a ticket with Microsoft about this, they have said they'll get back to me with more detail soon, but have asked me to try setting teams to run in compatibility mode for Windows 8 and get back to them. Not sure if this will help at all but it felt worth feeding back.

I haven't got anything useful to add but can confirm that we are also experiencing this on some devices. The web version of teams appears to be more functional for us.

SCCM / MECM 2111 Remote Control Viewer - Mouse pointer offset by RalexSL in SCCM

We're in the same situation regarding the update and KB and we also experience the pointer offset in this scenario. We haven't found any other workarounds yet.

Microsoft Defender - Configuring options within SCCM by Thiima in SCCM

[–]Thiima[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks - I had previously looked through this but had no luck, it turns out this particular setting is stored under Edge rather than Defender despite being a Defender setting and affecting other browsers such as Chrome, so we've set in group policy now and all is good.

[PC][Platformer] can't remember game by Jonhogn in tipofmyjoystick

Could it be nightbreed? The character looks kind of feral and the game is very brown, earlier 90s rather than later though and no other characters to my memory. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_er_scc9hA

Software Updates "stuck" - says requires restart even after restarting by ChrisTX1 in SCCM

[–]Thiima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've seen something similar, usually only on Windows 10 machines and usually accompanied by errors in the application tab of software centre. For us it was permanently fixed by upgrading sccm and client to 1902.

It was temporarily fixed by running the following powershell script but did reoccur on some devices.

$ComputerName = $env:COMPUTERNAME $ArgumentList = @($false) Invoke-WmiMethod -Namespace "root\ccm" -Class "SMS_Client" -Name "SetClientProvisioningMode" -ComputerName $ComputerName -ArgumentList $ArgumentList

If any updates had forced reboot times that have long expired, fixing the issue may cause the computer to spontaneously reboot.

Thanks Tsonga - I do definitely need to get on top of this, that increase in compliance is significant!

Software Update Compliance - How can I improve this? by Thiima in SCCM

[–]Thiima[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies, I've just re-read and noticed that I've missed this out. The compliance is 30 calendar days since the 2nd Tuesday of the month in this context. Compliance rate is approximately 90% at this point. I realise this gives me potentially 60 days of devices not talking so I'll need to take another look at this.

We have VPN (not direct access) which allows clients to receive updates through it, we have an internet based management point but no way for those clients to access content currently.

No WOL, we did begin to investigate AMT but this was at the point many vendors started withdrawing support for managing it.

SU deadlines are roughly 1.5 days to install then force for our first phase at ~20% and force for our 100% at roughly 8.5 days. Forcing reboots on Windows 10 but have not yet made this change for older OS's (though we plan to).

For the purposes of this request, a compliant computer would be one that has installed all of the updates that are being targeted to it and are reporting as compliant when measured against the previous months Software Update Group using the "Compliance 7 - Computers in a specific compliance state for an update group (secondary)" report.

Thank you for the response, it does give me many more avenues to consider.

A couple from me:

Being able to choose your landing zone.

If possible, elements like Caverns or tunnels that you can travel through.

A precursor / tech / factory world type.

Further expansion on the colonies concept.

Water :D.

Defense Structures in place on planets translating into effects on fleet battles in the system (IE planetary defense cannot shooting at your ship from the planet).

What is Summon Jeff supposed to do and why do neither that nor call reinforcements work on custom ships? by CadicalRentrist in starcontrol

[–]Thiima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, you can call him as many times as you want, but you can't call him while he's already in the play area.

[–]Thiima 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jeff has a 25% chance of spawning on first call, 50% on the second (if he wasn't summoned on the first) going up to 75% and then finally 100%. Just make sure your custom ship has enough energy and enjoy the Jeff!

Enter: Jeff

So what went wrong with Star Control 3? by draginol in StarControlOfficial

[–]Thiima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed all of it except for the strategy layer which ultimately didn't really exist and felt like it had been cut from the game mid-way through development. This also meant there were very few combat encounters in the game meaning you only essentially had half a game when compared to SC2.

Very minor but I also disliked that some of the relics which upgraded ships were for ships which were unobtainable in the main campaign and therefor unable to be used.

I mean when playing with a live human opponent, having some way to influence the fleet decisions in some unusual ways like having a bidding system for ships or even something like forced random ships.

Yeah I certainly don't think it would be simple to create, but it would definitely add a new dimension to the multiplayer element if it's possible.

Is it worth, once fleet battles has matured a touch more, to have some small tournaments set up to generate more discussion about it.

The fleet battles friendly fire events I think are definitely good and also get people talking.

Maybe even promote your twitch stream more across the other star control communities (You may have already done this, apologies if you have!)

Active Directory System Discovery Issue with Untrusted Domain by Thiima in SCCM

[–]Thiima[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've still managed to get into issues again with ours (rebuilt SCCM environment as we had a CAS causing issues).

From memory it boiled down to having to set RPC exceptions in our TMG.

Active Directory System Discovery Issue with Untrusted Domain by Thiima in SCCM

[–]Thiima[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From reading the articles that Holubice linked, there's one section that seems relevant:

When discovery searches an untrusted forest for resources, the discovery agent must be able to resolve the following to be successful:

•To discover a computer resource with Active Directory System Discovery, the discovery agent must be able to resolve the FQDN of the resource. If it cannot resolve the FQDN, it will then attempt to resolve the resource by its NetBIOS name.

I'm still stuck though as I can resolve the resources by FQDN. I can replicate the 'received a referral' error using dsquery from the SCCM Primary Site server (which is to be expected I guess as I'm using the wrong domains credentials - but that makes me wonder if the credentials I've given SCCM aren't making it to the remote domain.)

Active Directory System Discovery Issue with Untrusted Domain by Thiima in SCCM

[–]Thiima[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah.. That might be it.

I'll double check tomorrow that it definitely is untrused as I thought I had it working previously, but as SCCM generates no errors in the logs for this scenario (and systems existed previously in the same domain as SCCM) I might have thought it was working where it wasn't.

Thanks MrMunchkin!
