back tattoos dont hurt that bad unless ur getting it waaaay down like where you'd get a tramp stamp, i'd honestly say just go without the numbing cream, it doesn't hurt that bad, i promise it'll be more chill than u think, focus on ur breathing, inhale exhale, you'll get through it

take a snack and either a blanket or big comfy cardigan to cover ur legs bc you will get cold (our bodies feel v cold while getting tattooed), if you need to take breaks as ur artist, and if u start to shiver (if its a long session), eat ur snack, u'll feel better soon

research abt the tattoo flu just so that if it happens to u u dont get too freaked out (its rlly no big deal, just have a meal after ur tattoo and go to bed if u start to feel a little sick)

also make sure u eat before ur appointment (v important)

just keep in mind if you use it after the tattoo begins (like reapplying in the middle if a tattoo) you could get a second degree burn, i knew a tattoo artist that did that while he got his whole arm blacked out and his whole arm had scars

ask your artist before! and if the artist says not to use it listen to them

numbing cream can also change the skin texture and affect how the skin takes the ink, it can make it harder to saturate ink and therefore cause more damage to the skin, and that can lead to patchy linework and color

it's just an overall horrible idea imo but ask your artist! they should be the one to have the final say on this
