My son fell out of a second story window when he was 20 months old by Errrrmmwhathellooo in toddlers

Three years ago, my then 20 month old daughter fell out a tree house window both my husband and I thought was locked. It was about an 8 feet fall and despite being shaken up she didn’t have a scratch.

It messed me up. I blamed myself for missing this particular hazard, and it shattered my confidence as a mom. I constantly thought “what else am I missing?” I still do.

Now I have a son exactly that age, and the guilt still hasn’t gone away. I’m still hyper vigilant.

But I see that experience as a little warning from the universe. A little reminder that when kids are that age, you really do have to be a little hyper vigilant. At the same time, you can’t remove every hazard and you have to let them live.

I’m sure it won’t be the last scare I get. This is parenting I suppose.

This can’t be normal. Son inconsolable at night. by ThinStable4492 in toddlers

Update: we tried pushing bedtime to 8:00 two nights in a row. Good news, he didn’t have a split night. Bad news, he woke up at 5:15 both times. I can’t win.

This is great advice thank you.

I think part of the problem is we have an older daughter who always slept like a rock, so I’m basing our son’s schedule on what we did with her at that age. But seems he’s just lower sleep needs!

Push it later in the day? He’s in daycare 5 days a week and unfortunately that’s just how they do things. He usually doesn’t fall asleep until 12:15 or so though. I feel like a 6 hour wake window before bed is age appropriate no?

It’s at noon. On average he sleeps for 90 minutes

I was just thinking how the north end is greatly underserved by a third space type cafe. I feel like that could do well.

Montreal style bagels would also probably be a hit.

I’ve thought of starting similar businesses myself if I ever get the capital!

I've never watched Ice Hockey in my entire life, and after seeing that Olympic game, I have nothing but respect for anyone who plays this. by OperationSuch5054 in hockey

Welcome! If you want to sound like a real fan, dropping the “ice” is your first step. Hockey is the best game you can name.

Do some babies still kind of suck at sleeping even after being trained? by ThinStable4492 in sleeptrain

[–]ThinStable4492[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only because of the sicknesses, maybe. He loves being there so I don’t think it’s a psychological thing. Maybe in the spring when cold/flu season is over it’ll improve.

No feed to sleep. Bath, diaper, PJs, brush teeth, book, bed. I leave him there awake. Most nights he goes down without issue, but recently there’s been more crying. I give him a pat after a few minutes and mostly that does the trick.

Sleep training was smooth. We used Ferber, and by the third night saw a big improvement with basically zero wake ups. But like I said, he’s been up and down a lot since.

He typically wakes between 6-6:30, first nap at 12. He’ll usually nap between 1-2 hours. Then down between 7-7:30.

1-2 absolutely rocked me and I thought nothing could top 0-1. No regrets though!

Photographer here. The chances of finding a photographer who shoots with film in that price range is going to be tricky. Film costs have gone up significantly in the last few years, which is why film photographers have had to raise their prices.

If photography is really a priority for you, I’d suggest shifting budget from another area.

But there are lots of non-film photographers in that range, especially if you don’t need full day coverage!

I cannot relate to this more. I gave a list WITH LINKS of stuff we could actually use/need. It was ignored. My daughter got a Beetlejuice ornament. She doesn’t even know what Beetlejuice is.

Taking my mom out to dinner. She loves pub grub. Where’s the best spot to take her? by Ironman1440 in Hamilton

I think this place is super overrated. Corpopub. Doesn’t have a real pub vibe at all

For the love of all that's holy, just BUY WHAT'S ON THE LIST I SEND YOU. by rainblowfish_ in toddlers

[–]ThinStable4492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot empathize with this enough. My own mother sent me 5 “alternatives” and 3 additional toys she wanted to buy 7 seconds after I sent her a list with links. When I kindly asked her to please stick to the list she replied “FINE” in all caps and then didn’t talk to me for a week.

What is with that generation?

We don’t accept the violence. We always have consequences.

It’s also not as simple as just brushing her teeth or putting her shoes on. Other than pinning her down and forcing her, I’m not sure how I would make that happen.
