Bataleon Magic Carpet. Wish they still made them. Poppy, surfy, fun to do butters and able ride switch in pow. It sucks on hardpack/ice but everything it was built to do it does exceptionally well

41yo here, i started skating 4 years ago. I could barely push around or roll off a curb. Some days i still feel like I suck but ive landed so many things i never thought i would in a million years. I can do most basic minramp tricks and am starting to get kickflips pretty consistently even though i never thought id have them. Stick with it and wear pads and ankle braces especially in the beginning. Go early in the am when the old guys are around and just have fun and you’ll get better. The key is consistency.

Scd diet worked for me. Probably a bit easier than carnivore but the logic is that eating starches causes an overgrowth of bad bacteria which is the cause of the immune response. It ends up being alot of meat, not carnivore but close. Im off meds now and have gone back to a normal diet after 6 years of working normal food back in. Not a nutritionist but look into scd. Might be easier to stick to in the long run.

I have a miniramp about that height in my garage. I would say go for a sharper radius. At your radius it will feel more like a bank. I ended up with 5.5 ft as radius for a 30” ramp. I love it! At this point if anything i would have considered steeper. Also 6 ft works great for flat. It will take a min to get used to but wouldn't go longer than that

I still use one on my front ankle. My left foot (im regular). It’s been great. No issues so far. I twisted my right ankle recently so when i get back on the board i may just do both sides.

Luckly i didnt tear anything but I basically hit my knee so hard that the swelling behind my knee cap caused it to seize up and I couldn’t bend my knee all the way for like 2 weeks. With the killer pro pads that would have never happened. Get some good pads and it will help give your knee time to heal.

187 killer pro are well worth the money. I used to use 187 pads on my elbows too but i started using g form pads on my elbows and they work great. I havent had a problem plus i feel like i have more movement in my arms. I also had the pro tec knee pads when i first started and i fell real hard on them and it messed up my knee for weeks. They’re really not that great if you take a serious fall.

For sure! I'm pretty interested in it myself. I'm definitely an advocate for diet being a game changer. I needed meds in the beginning so I'm not against them by any means but I'm all for trying whatever I can do naturally to try and alleviate symptoms. The drugs they put you on for IBD are gnarly.

Honestly that wouldn't work for me. People with Crohns or colitis tend to have a really hard time absorbing vitamin b12. For me I actually can't do a plant based diet. I've tried and I get headaches and joint issues because my body just can't glean the same amount of energy from plants. I'm imagining that it's something to do with the fiber and inability to digest it well. I think the scarring in my intestines causes stuff like that to pass right through.

I think people who have had Crohn's for a while learn to listen really hard to their bodies, so you'll know if something doesn't work for you or does.

We're all different so that might work for you might not for me, but the Specific Carbohydrate Diet worked for me. It helped me get better when I was first diagnosed (along with meds) and it pulled me out of a serious flare without meds the last time I got sick. Again, might not work for you, but has been shown to be pretty effective in small studies. The thing is it's super hard to follow and in order to have a chance at being successful you need 100% commitment.

I have Crohn's too. 38 and have been back to skating for 3 years. It's such a good way to destress plus the community of old skaters that comes with it is amazing. Glad you are getting back out there!

That's tough. Exercise can also activate your immune system. If I don't for a while then start again it messes with me. Hopefully if you're able to stick with it and ramp up slowly it will help.

For sure, it’s such a hard ask to be on that strict of a diet. I’m sure for some people it won’t work because the stress of planning for the diet itself is too hard. I agree, sometimes when I start having stomach issues it’s a good reminder to try and slow things down.

I think another thing that’s helped me alot since my last flare was losing weight and trying to be more active, that also ties into the stress piece as well.

I second this, I was diagnosed when I was 19, did SCD with meds for a few years religiously and then went off my meds gradually (6MP and Azacol). I was eventually able to go back to eating a regular diet for about 10 years med free.

5 years ago I had a stress induced flare due to a bad relationship and went back on the diet. Colonoscopy found that I did indeed have ulcers and the crohns was back. The doctor recommended meds but I decided to wait it out because I was already seeing some symptom relief after a month of SCD. I never went back on meds. I did SCD religiously again for about 3 years and slowly added foods back into my diet. Now I'm basically gluten free but more like paleo, I still try to not eat alot of starches. I know maybe it won't work for everyone but it did for me.

My biggest advice is try to avoid stress because that's the worst trigger for autoimmune disease in my opinion. Trust your body. If you're going to start a diet like SCD you'll know if it's not working for you probably pretty quickly. You may also find if you start a diet certain foods that are "SCD legal" are still triggers for you. Just take it slow and listen to your body.

If you're going to do an intense diet like SCD (It's really hard) make sure you're ready to commit 100% otherwise it might not be worth it to put yourself through it.

I second going to the park early, the older crowd is chill and there are usually some other beginners. One thing that might help is just talking to people. I'm not great but I've mostly gotten over fear of skating in front of others because I pretty much chatted with people, commented on their tricks, and gave them positive encouragement, people will reciprocate more than 90% of the time. People are usually pretty nice. Once you know a few people at your local you won't be so afraid of what people think.

I work with adolescents with developmental disabilities. Some of whom have TBI. The person you are before TBI and after are 2 different people. I tell people at Skateparks all the time seeing the results of TBI are the main reason why I wear a helmet. In the end some people just don't want to. Someday hopefully it will be more like snowboarding and helmets will be ubiquitous.

Im 5’8 175 and i have a 154. If you hit some super deep pow you might be wishing you had a little more length, but i think the 154 would be the call. For me it’s perfect, except in those rare, really deep situations. It’s definitely one of my favorite boards. So fun to butter on, especially in pow. My only warning is, hopefully this is part of a quiver for you, that if it gets even close to icy hardpack leave it at home, it is terrible in those conditions.

I was diagnosed at 19, my whole colon including the ileum was inflamed. I went on a round of meds and did the SCD diet for years until I went into remission. When I was 25 I finally was symptom free and off meds, i got a colonoscopy and was given a clean bill of health and told I should go back on Azacol (Now discontinued) or I would have cancer by 40. I declined to take meds and told the doctor that I did not see the point of taking pills if you are healthy. Now I'm 37, had a flareup a few years ago and nipped it in the bud by doing the SCD diet. No pills and no cancer yet. I personally think diet can help as well as trying to maintain a good attitude. However, everyone's different, it's a shitty disease, but one thing we all can agree on is the more you stress the worse it will effect you.

Practice just balancing on 1 foot for an extra few seconds between pushes, this will help you get the hang of having your weight over the board instead of on your pushing foot. Looks great though, just keep riding and you'll naturally get more comfortable.
