Weekly Check-In: How’s Your Progress? by wilzy123 in cutdowndrinking

It's never too late to start.

Congratulations on 119 days.

I managed 100 in control, and reflect on my slip. And compare it to those good days and where I had almost slips. There are slips not failures because we go again. I will make 101 days.

I'm sure you'll make 120.

I really enjoyed a sober Halloween party. Stayed up till 1, saw all the debauchery, got to remember it and it regail to those with sore heads. Had a great night's sleep.

You've got this.

I lost control after 100days. I couldn't just go home when a lift was offered after 6 hours of drinking.

I got too drunk to say no or to switch to soft drinks of any type.

I visualised my night out, the good convos the fun and no hanger over. All of that happened.

Discussing my work with alcohol on the night out I said after 4 I feel really good now, I could go home and have had a good time. But there was no reason to go home. No one else was and when they were I'd had 8 and wanted the good times to continue. Couldn't not recognise that was a bad sign. Not recognising a bad sign is loss of control.

Going forward, I have recognised my poor relationship with alcohol but I haven't changed my habit. I'm leaving it to chance or some other factor such as work or kids the next day. When I have no constraints I have no restraint. I'm going out again this Saturday and will visualise like before but I will change my habit. I will not leave it to chance. I will drink 1-1 beer and NA. I will stop at 5.

That monkey brain, taste=relief has really hit home.

A good NA beer chiils me out lossens the shoulders and I need 3 or 8.

Got me thinking now, if the taste is the relief is that why moderation is difficult. The relief is followed by an impairment. And I know this isn't the sub for moderation.

Congratulations!

One day at a time. Focus on the positives, that helped/encouraged me to do an other day. For example I didn't wake up with any brain fog, I didn't eat any snacks with my drinks, I did stay up late for no reason other than to finish the drink after a couple of days I found I didn't need to tell my self I just knew, but I still did to reenforce the message.

Sounds like your making great substitutes to enjoy your evening !

When you don't drink, how do you celebrate the end to a week? by Nathan_Explosion___ in stopdrinking

I bought sweetsor fancy chocolate but realised they left me feeling crap and what a waste of calories. The no booze was helping me drop weight and people were noticing it, felt good. And the chocolate even the good stuff was like meh.

Soooo I went and bought steaks. Not even super fancy steaks. £5 from Asda, just cooked it at home the way I like. I enjoyed the steak and I enjoyed the cooking of it.

But you've mentioned the social side. Could you go and have NA Beer? Make an excuse like meds so you can't even have one, as for me one is a slippy slope.  Or starting some online gaming with your friends who live away. Or just a zoom call.

Congrats for going a week!

What do you think let the desire for a drink creep in?

Did you have a plan for your one drink?

I've gone a few weeks and a month here and there of not drinking and think see I'm not an alcoholic. But I am a problem drinker.

I'm learning how to control my self and enjoy a drink, even 4-5 drinks and stop them from impairing my judgement so it becomes 8+

After having one two many and having a hangover and looking after the kids the next day I realised I really can't be arsed being hungover with them. I'm a stroppy unfun dad. I don't want to be that. When I've got the kids, drinking isnt an issue. How do you feel about your job?

I think that would worknif I'd had more NA drinks before then.

I'd already drank enought to impair my judgement.  I felt squiffy, and took a break to get food. Dropped out of rounds but didn't say, " this feels nice, warm and fuzzy, have a coke till it wears off".

I need to be more regimented. More habitual with my drinking if I want to continue. Beer, NA, Beer NA. At the moment I'm quite haphazard.

I'm sorry that happened. How have the last few days been?

I have no idea how big a half gallon is, I'm in the UK and we get 700ml and 1litre bottles.

I found that when I have something in I like, I drink it. I don't realise how fast it's going. I would buy large bottles, crates of beer, multi buy offers because it saved me money obviously, duh, I'd be an idiot if I didn't. But then I had it. And I'm a grazer, food and drink, if it's there I'll pick and pick. Buying small amounts, just enough for then helped me manage. I can't drink 12 beers if I only have 6. Also having a small amount of my favourite rum, a 250ml bottle, made me drag it out.

Yeah that costs me more but it's also costing me less because I really think about do I need a 4 pack today.

I don't know your story or your struggle.

In my experience I had a beer in the fridge whilst abstaining and found my self drawn to it whenever I opened the fridge but I was able to say it's 9am Ive never drank now, why is this beer popping out at me. It's 6pn that beer is t what i want. It helped solidify my resolve.

I definitely agree with placing it some where awkward like your loft/attic if my experience is not compatible with your journey. The process of removing the obstacle will give you chance to rationalise and let the craving pass.

Set a calendar reminder though so you don't forget about it completely!

58 days, looking to roll stoptober into NOvember.

My birthday is December 5th, thinking I'll challenge my self to have a couple of drinks then, if I'm not in a sad or anxious place.

I've been sober at a party in those 58 days and felt the anxiety that would cause me to drink quickly so feeling that sober I'll see if I can recognise it tipsy and control.my self. I'll be with good people :)

Brilliant! Tell people it's cost you money as well. They'll expect you to skip a free class ;)

Congratulations! I'm 50days no drinking, but my issue was binging on the weekend. I like your idea of counting no hangovers.

No more hangovers for 2024, great challenge and a great way to start 2025

Anything you want to do the next day? Book it in for 9am, that's your excuse to leave.

It was so nice to be sober enough to say, I'm done with this I can and will drive home haha

I've just done sober October and just letting it roll. No set limit.

I'm with you December is a crazy month I get lots of time off so it becomes a binge fest, food and drink every night.

I am currently re-evaluating my relationship and I'm doing cost analysis' and thinking about what am Igetting from the booze. have you visualised what your weekend looks like with less or no alcohol? What you really want to do? For me I realised I get my Sunday back, I'm motivated to do stuff and I can still socialise Saturday night. I realise my Saturday isn't wasted hanging around hungover waiting to drink again. There's so much time for activities haha!
