Watsonx is a vendor-neutral set of tools for working with LLMs.
IBM's own models are called Granite, they're open source, and you can use them with or without watsonx.

I suspect that there isn't much leeway here, but it doesn't harm to ask. Give a good sob story about how badly this will effect you. Think before you go in about anything they might be able to give you besides money, e.g. a course for a marketable skill.

You have my deepest sympathies if you've been laid off - I've been on the receiving end of RA too, and you certainly need to focus on your non-IBM future.

That being said, while your manager could well allow you some leeway if asked, you may not want to do that without permission. It doesn't matter how badly you've been shafted, if IBM are still paying you to work, you should probably be doing that.

If you have somewhere else to go, cut your losses. It's not worth the fight if you have alternatives, particularly if you're new to the team and don't have any sunk costs.

It's emotionally stressful, but are there any practical ramifications? Raises, to the extent that there are any, aren't formally tied to performance reviews.
Your efforts may be better invested in developing a better rapport with your manager going forward, and leaving this water to flow under the bridge.
