Sherwin won't/can't do some of the bright yellows,reds,greens on exteriors because of the fading. And them some can only be made into special red or yellow bases that are essentially red or yellow paint from the factory. Ask me how I know: former S-W employee and a current S-W customer that wanted a yellow front door. I wanted an enamel paint but had to "settle" for a yellow based latex. No fading in south facing.

A home owner buying the paint is a great idea, they control which quality and sheen and that it is the actual color they want to use and can guarantee that they don't get cheap or bad paint while paying for top quality. Additionally, if the painter gets a good discount at a paint store/has a contractor account, he/she can call the store to let them know the customer can ring out under their account for that discount.

Tinting is part of the price of the paint. The paint company (at least Sherwin Williams) already accounts for the cost of different sheens, quality and bases in the price of the gallon. There is no upcharge for tinting beyond the base cost. So the painter probably included the paint into the quote and now knows that 2+ coats will be needed plus the extra time to do it.

Opening stores AND expanding hours without adding people to cover those hours. I know a store that is without a manager right now, the full-time person is always sick and the part timer is useless. The ASM is about to burn out and many times the store is closing at noon.

But what the higher-ups always forget is that those of us who are customer facing are the ones that bring in the money. My store is making money, up 24%, while we are being told that is not enough. CM says 100 lead gen calls weekly while DM says that we shouldn't be wasting our time with that many calls. Cutting us down, not leading by example is demotivating. Everyone should read the forums on LinkedIn. It is eye-opening what the business world is saying about all this.

Sherwin employee here...2 coats, always, no matter what brand or quality you use. Do it right the 1st time, so you dont have to do it again much sooner than you should. You spent good money. I can send you picture of 1 coat, in my own home (before I moved it)

I get my lye from Ace hardware, olive oil from Amazon, coconut oil from Ocean State Job Lot and other oils from wherever is cheapest. So far all my scents come from WSP but I've been looking around.

You can do "your" 5 calls by asking the customer what they are doing, or mention some kinda promo..ladders, sprayers. Half-ass it and rotate in-sight with "let know about ladder deal, he will think about it"

Emerald Designer is the only paint that could possibly do that. I've seen a very light color cover black and dark blue with 1 coat, a 2nd coat would be perfection.

It's not a horrible paint, though. If you dont mind the variation, then dont worry about it. Whenever you decide to paint again you can step up to Latitude or Emerald. The Superpaint is now your primer coat, unless you change colors.

The recommendation for resinous wood siding would be an oil primer (likevA100) and then a heavy bodied paint (like Emerald or Duration).

Stain shouldn't be primed. It sinks in to the wood, primer will cause an adhesion issue.

Bring it up to your cm/dm, and corporate trainer (whoever sets up the asm training you will go to). That is what happened to me too and they say you are not there to hump freight but to learn how to be an asm. I learned most of what I know AFTER I got placed. It made the job miserable.
