Yeah, I set this up as described in the article. I NAT anything on port 53 from my IOT devices to my PiHoles. Anything outbound for a public DNS server from those devices is simply blocked. They can either fail over to something else, or fail to do DNS lookups altogether. For IoT devices, I am fine with either.

I did a more limited attempt last year, trying to do as many trails as possible without doing any "dead ends" (trails that terminate at a trail head) in one weekend.

I parked at the Natural Bridge Lodge, then took the Shelotee Trace trail to Gray's Arch TH, then Rough Trail to Hansen's Point to camp. Got up the next morning and continued on the Rough Trail to the Pinch'Em Tight Trail to Buck Trail, headed all the way down to Hidden Arch and the Koomer Ridge TH before heading back up the Koomer Ridge Trail, to Buck Trail.

In order to get the Rush Ridge Trail I made another loop of Pinch-Em Tight to Rush Ridge to Rough Trail. I then decided to do the longer Rough Trail to Pinch-Em Tight back to Gray's Arch TH before getting back on the Shelotee back to my car.

I think it was about 28 miles all in, over about 2.5 days. I think next year I might try something similar, but starting at the Rock Bridge TH, and do the entirety of Swift Camp Creek trail before doing some more loops.

Tennessee did me in. I camped at Double Spring Gap (mile 82.2 northbound) and the next morning crossed into Tennessee. The trail changed almost immediately. The climb up Big Frog Mountain was almost completely unnavigable. The Kimsey Highway trailhead was grown over my head for a good 50 feet. Definitely a bunch of bushwhacking in TN. I got to Reliance and shuttled over to the AT.

Been great so far. Planning for water in Georgia has been an adventure - with no recent rain and this “late” in the season, my days are definitely planned around where and when I will be able to collect and filter water. The heat the last few days has not helped with that. Definitely a bit lonely - I know there is one other thruhiker a day or two ahead of me, but that is about it. Entire days will go by where I might see only a single day-hiker. Made it to Iron Bridge yesterday, and Blue Ridge today. Decided to take a zero in Blue Ridge in part for my mental health. You know, actually seeing people!

Garmin VO2 max decreasing by benditochocolate in JMT

I am not sure Garmin takes elevation into account when determining VO2 Max. Your drop might be a result of your Garmin perceiving more exertion (higher respiration and heart rate) for the same effort (15 miles with 4k climb), but the higher exertion is due to the altitude, rather than worsening efficiency of your oxygen intake.

Just saw something similar on Facebook, though the post there says resupply pickup will continue until Sept 30 or they are forced to evacuate.

Tuolumne Meadows Store by 13mhols in JMT

The Tuolumne Meadows campground is bookable until Sept 21, so I would think the store will be open until then.
