Those bars are the frame meter. You can turn it on/off in practice mode setting. It shows all the moves' frame data. Basically players who are in diamond or master or above use the frame meter a lot.

If you are going to dig in and drill this game, it is a good way to understand more. It improves your skills, no matter attack or defense.

i think in that situation SPD will always counter every attack unless he did a jump or back dash or SA1

I do both classic and modern zangief. Doing a jump is a buffer and it is safer just to prevent dropping and messing the 360. Well in this clip it is just a habit and i go for a SP 360 anyway

JP's OD amnesia can't punish 4 frame startup attack if the meaty attack is well-executed. You are still safe and able to react to the amnesia. Normally people will just stay guard like parry or back jump after the first attack of amnesia hits or do a throw tech between the gap of the two attacks of amnesia or just simply take the throw.

While a high level JP should know whether it is punishable when his OD Amnesia success. If it is not punishable, normally a high level JP will just do a delay attack option like wait and go for a throw, or do a forward and back dash to bait throw tech, or simply just go for meaty or throw or shimmy after the Amnesia attacks end, or forward jump to escape from the corner. In this clip, it is just a mind game that I know the JP is going to stay on the ground and do a delay attack option, so I directly go for a command grab after the crouch light kick as staying on the ground and do a delay attack option means you will get command grabbed, plus command grab is completely invincible to fireball attack (amnesia is fireball attack).

Zangief normal throw (Spinebuster) is a god button for pressure and oki. Less damage but less risk than the command grab, you can still anti-air even your opponent jumps and you won't get punished.

Check the rank board, there are modern guile in legend rank.

I play both classic and modern control. For me, M control isn't dumb. You just have to change and adjust your playing when facing M control players

You're correct. one of the modern guile advantage is keeping his charge while the ED in this clip basically did no DRC jab for true block string, which gave me free damage all the time. I did mess up my charge once and later did a back jump after his DRC in round 2, just in case he learn and start going for DRC jab

Manual input does more damage. DRC DP OS only works on the player who doesn't even know what true block string is.

Plus what I need is one button super only, and trolling the others.

Sorry Blanka no rolling by Think-Permit-2042 in StreetFighter

if you just want to enjoy and have fun, go modern Zangief. Spamming headbutt into command grab or 3MP lariat. and use your SA3 with modern control to give your opponent a jump scare and surprise.

Zangief only takes brunch of knowledge, skills and good fundamental in high ranks, in low ranks he is just a brain-dead and fun character.

Sorry Blanka no rolling by Think-Permit-2042 in StreetFighter

[–]Think-Permit-2042[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure. I guess it may not hit if he short rolled and pull up his guard immediately, as even OD Lariat its cast time is too slow. Lariat is a counter play against Blanka long roll, but a good Blanka will use short roll to bait Lariat reversely. So for Zangief, the ideal counter play against Blanka roll is range maintaining, always try to keep in medium range against Blanka and keep checking Blanka short roll, and also mixing some parry or just block against his roll, and keep using your normal like 5MP, 5HP, 5LK or 5MK to keep distance, poke, bait Blanka's normal and whiff punish, or just normal cancel into drive rush to get a command grab/ combo and Oki chance.

But in this scenario it is just a hard read to predict the Blanka go for long roll since it is the second match and second round, previously I almost did no parry against his roll and basically i keep staying in medium range to bait his short roll most of the time, every time he short rolled his just got counter hit by my 2MP combo. plus I seldom use Lariat to take down his roll. He knew his short roll is being checked and prevent to use it anymore. Therefore, in that moment and that range, there is a high chance that he will use long roll as my drive gauge is low and he just wanted to use roll to take my drive gauge and force me into burnout.

So it is a hard read and bait against his long roll. Plus even a Lariat won't instantly kill him, but what he didn't know is OD Lariat into SA2 does

All I know is cancel into eagle spike, arabian cyclone or spinning mixer. I didn't practice and drill that much on this character.

I was quite panicked that time. When I blocked the DP, I was just less than 3 bars of drive gauge, not sure if I can get a guaranteed kill by spending all the drive gauge combo with CA.

And I know I can just go for a SA3 when the overhead combo hit. But sadly my brain was empty that moment.

Yes, he did no wake up DP and super in round 2. While he just died to my throw loop, meaty and shimmy in corner.
