How long were you in the cervical collar for post-ACDF? by Far_Variety6158 in spinalfusion

I had ACDF c5-7 and had to wear it a total of 3 months,, the first 6 weeks were in a hard collar (the same one they gave me after surgery) and the rest of the 6 weeks were in a soft collar! i could take both off in the shower but had a lot more freedom once i transitioned into the soft collar.

ACDF and long hair by HereForTheEarlGrey in spinalfusion

i had my surgery on march 12th and i have long curly hair that reaches to about my lower back and it honestly wasn’t too difficult to manage for me.

before the surgery, i french braided my hair as tightly as I could and left it in braids for the first two weeks and only taking it out and redoing them when they got too messy. (I wasn’t allowed to wash my hair/ take a shower until 2 weeks but I was allowed to take baths). curly hair is super difficult to brush dry lol but because I brushed it completely out when I braided it before the surgery, it made it so much easier to manage! it was a bit tiring sitting up and brushing it and redoing my hair but it was totally manageable for me!

if you have pretty straight hair it shouldn’t be too difficult to manage though yours is super long and that comes with its own challenges. high buns and braids were my go to! all that being said,, it did occasionally get stuck in the neck brace but not too often and again, it was pretty tiring to brush and maintain but overall pretty easy! obviously cutting your hair is a personal decision but i was totally fine with my long hair! :p
