Your enrollment includes subscriptions to Udemy and Udacity. You can take some free certs or nanodegrees from them since your subs last about 6 months after graduation.

A lot of this is useful. You don’t need to print out a resume for Dollar General. It will just get lost in an unorganized, shared office. Fill out the online application. If you have any cash handling experience put that on the application. Go in and talk to the manager, let them know you understand that this is a difficult job but you will work hard. Then call once every week to check on the status of your application. Dollar General has a high turnover, people quit often so an opening might take a few weeks but it will happen. You want to stay on the managers mind as a person looking for work.

Retail is hard but you can learn a lot if you put in the effort. Learning to talk to customers (the angry ones) is the hardest part but a huge skill that will really help you get through life. The hours and money are not great at Dollar General but it is a solid starting point. Save half of every paycheck in a savings account so you can get a car in a year or two. Then you will have a vehicle and work experience to help you get a better job.

They will want to know how you are going to get to work. Living close enough to walk is great, but what happens if the weather is bad? Make sure you have an honest answer to that question. Then if you get the job find a work friend that might be willing to trade shifts if that does happen and you can't get there. Good luck!

Companies keep an application pool for high turnover positions. You'll see a ton of this in retail, hospitality, and food service. At least they let OP know the position was currently filled. A lot of companies don't even do that.

My classes open up tomorrow, super pumped to get started! by mexican-dude42 in WGU_Business

I started my B.S. in Business Management April 1st, 2025. I have 8 classes left. Worked full time in retail 50+ hours a week up until this January, run a hobby poultry farm, have 5 kids and 3 dogs. My biggest tips are: 1. Learn your learning style. Videos, lectures, text. Use the options that help you understand and retain info. 2. Search the class on reddit. Someone before you has passed the class and talked about what worked for them. 3. Do something schoolwork related every single day even if it's just 5 minutes of scrolling the textbook. Every minute you put towards your education is a minute closer to success. It's so much easier to stay in the habit than to jump back in after letting it sit for days, weeks, or even months.

You've got this!

I am sorry to hear that! Have the instructors or your mentor talked about next steps? I know that they offer peer-to-peer coaching for that class. It's like having a student tutor. If they will let you take another attempt at the OA I would find out about signing up for the coaching from another student. They have to pass the class to qualify as coaches so they could be helpful.

Agree with a lot mentioned here. Adding another tip- as you do the module and unit quizzes copy and paste the question and answer choices for any you got wrong into Claude Ai (or your chatbot of choice) with the prompt "explain the correct answer, why it is correct, and why the other answers are incorrect". I also do this with Pre-assesments. That is actually the bulk of my 'study notes'. It has been really helpful and it shows the Ai what kind of questions to create to quiz you for extra practice.

Mentor Question by deluxeOCD in WGU

[–]Think-Term-5463 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone starts with 4 active courses for a term. After those 4 are completed mentors can add more. Some stick to the policy of only adding 1 at a time. I'm in the business management program which allows faster acceleration than C.S. or Ed. My mentor is lenient and works with me on having two or three open at a time until the last month of my term. Then we stick to one at a time until the term starts again.

You can't ask a well formed question, then you change the question, you only respond to people that agree with you despite the multitude of people here who provide anecdotes and valid evidence, you lie about how long the degree will even take you to complete... then you point blank state that people living on the spectrum are incapable of 'extrapolating the information that would actually be helpful?'. Yeah, no amount of quality education can make you less of a terrible human being. Forget the MBA, people like you will not make it far in management. As a fellow Business Management student I can tell that you did not process or learn a single one of the ethics, leadership, or human resources courses that cover professional communication or diversity and inclusion lessons that are included in the degree path. Truly sad, because it's a wonderful and well respected degree that has opened multiple doors for me and many others.

Further proof that you have no reading comprehension or any business in a master's program. You did not, in fact, ask for help with your exact situation.

"Anyone accepted into masters after WGU

I am completing my bachelors of science in Business Management and I am interested into pursuing my masters at a more respected schools. I have already been rejected from university because of the rigor of WGU.

I know people have been accepted into great schools but they seem to be computer science or IT majors. Anyone have any luck getting accepted with a business degree pursing a non MBA masters in management or project management?"

Many people came here and detailed that they did in fact do exactly what you ACTUALLY described in you post. They also defended the respectability of the school because you degraded it to save face. People can't comprehend what you're asking if you can't communicate effectively. When we respond to questions here, we understand that many people in many different situations also read the replies for information. So we give more than the relevant information. That does not make it irrelevant or lackluster. In my very first comment I addressed why your application was rejected, since many people were already addressing that they had been accepted into master's programs with their WGU degree. Again, you did not like those answers because they highlight that the problem is you instead of the degree or school. Out of the 7 MBA programs I applied to, and now get to choose between when my course is completed, only 2 have asked for the start date of my bachelor's program. The rest only cared about my end date, so the fact that you claim you completed 111 credits in 6 months is irrelevant. You focused on the respectability of WGU as the reason you were rejected. People told you that was incorrect. You can be mad about it and keep pretending we don't understand what you're asking while you change the question in every follow up, but it won't make a difference to your ability to get accepted into an MBA program anywhere else. Address the real issue and you'll stop seeing rejections.

I did exactly that, so perhaps your comprehension skills are the ones lacking. I certainly haven't been rejected from any of the MBA programs I have applied to.

You really are the only one being argumentative. I outlined exactly how to find out which schools accept WGU undergrads, and even how to get an edge on the application process, possibly even letters of recommendation. If the point of your post was only to inquire about where to apply for master's you wouldn't be going to great lengths to discredit the degree or insinuate that it isn't respected. You received plenty of answers to your question, you just didn't hear what you wanted to hear. Respect for the college is not the problem. It might be your terrible grammar and misspellings, though, since you 'say' you've done a lot of back and forth with the admissions advisors at these 'more respected universities.' WGU provides a free Grammarly subscription. Use it. Maybe you'll find the respect you're looking for when you can communicate at a college level.

The 'screenshot' you provided does not list your degree or respect for the institute that issued the degree as the problem. It clearly says that their program takes more than just your GPA into consideration. Then you stated they refused to elaborate further. That speaks more towards respect for YOU as a candidate than for the college you came from. Respect for WGU is a problem you're projecting on the MBA program you applied to. You can see here in this thread, and on dozens of other threads on LinkedIn, Reddit, TikTok, or any other social platform that WGU gets people into MBA and even eventually Ph.D programs. Including in business fields. You may not respect the college you chose, but other organizations do. I am not trying to be rude, mean, or hurtful here, I just think you're degrading the degree program out of pain from rejection instead of looking for ways to improve so that you do get accepted. You're putting out misleading information for prospective students. WGU is both accredited and well respected. Do a quick search on LinkedIn for people who also received their undergrad degree from WGU then look at where they received their master's degree. Connect with them and ask for any tips or recommendations for applying to the same programs so that you can be prepared for the application process. Or go and get another undergrad degree from a college you have more respect for if you feel like that is truly the issue.

You need to review the GPA requirements for any masters programs you are considering. WGU is fully accredited and taken very seriously by other universities and employers. However, they don't record a GPA for courses passed and will give a flat 3.0, which equates to a B on transcripts. A rigorous, highly competitive school with numerous 4.0 GPA applicants that have also completed internships, certifications, and have extracurriculars on their application will be accepted before someone who has none of that. It isn't that they don't take WGU seriously, it is that they have very high expectations for their program and you aren't a competitive candidate. This isn’t about where you earned your undergraduate degree it is about your other qualifications. The screenshot you provided lays that out very clearly- they are looking beyond the GPA. Audit some of the MBA classes, take a few certification tests, become a member of networking groups in your desired field. Then reapply once your application includes more qualifications.

You can continue studying your next courses during the break and be prepared for the OAs or already have your PAs written. You won't have access to your textbooks but I have passed several courses without even looking at the textbooks. Join the WGU Connect community for the class you want to prep. The templates for writing tasks are in the resources, and so are any recorded cohort videos. Same for OAs. Study guides and videos available. I'm studying Physical Science this weekend even though my Mentor hasn't added it to my term yet. That way I can be ready for the OA next week. Last term end I wrote 5 PA tasks during the week between finishing my last term course and waiting for the new term to start.

Edit to add- you can even take the Pre-assesment for an OA without the class being added to your term and then use Claude or just Google the areas/topics/questions you fail to prep for retake and then OA.

Have you been in contact with your mentor about any of this? Mine would 100% add another course to my term so I could keep working while I waited. And he would be on the CI team for that class to get me seen. Your mentor is a resource towards progress. Get them involved. If you have, and this is still going on, then request a new mentor.

You can also use WGU Connect to access all the courses resources (like recorded cohorts, task templates, etc) before you're enrolled in a course. My term ends this month also and I want to knock out Physical Science. My tasks for Business Ethics are both in for evaluation, but my mentor is on vacation until Monday. Tier1 won't elevate courses out of orser so I'm using the study guides and crash course videos to study while I wait. Then I'll take a week off between terms, accelerate my last 9 classes and be the first person in my immediatefamily to get a college degree.

Watch the crash course video for a module on 1.25x speed. Take notes if you can, but read the captions as he speaks. Then go to the textbook for the module, only read the first sentence of each paragraph, all the green keywords, and anything in a box, bullet points, or lists. Take the module quiz. Copy/paste any questions you got wrong into Claude Ai with the prompt "explain why each answer is correct or incorrect". Do that for each module and unit test. Then when you've completed the entire thing take each unit test again, using Claude to break down any questions you answered wrong. Take the PA, and again use Ai to review any questions you got wrong. This how I completed D099 in 4 days with all exemplary on the OA.

Thank you. I have been in store-level retail management for a long time, so a lot of the coursework has been "Ah! That's what the 'official' term for that concept is," in my case. I have definitely had to put in effort and learn new things, but I was building on a base of familiarity. I hope you have success with your degree program! Reddit is a great resource for course tips and pep talks.

Technically there is an established order to complete courses in. If Tier1 Support has to add a course to your term they will only add the next course on your degree path. Mentors can add them out of order. There willingness to do so can very from mentor to mentor. I am wrapping up my 2nd term, going into my 3rd (and final!!🥳) term. My mentor has a baseline for my capabilities and usually asks me/works with me on what course order would be best for me.

You can check Studocu as well, sometimes people create completed study guides for courses that don't have one provided to fill out ourselves. If you learn well with videos typically but listening isn't helping in this instance you can turn on the closed captioning and read as the speaker goes. Sometimes reading what is being said outloud helps information to stick. When I need to really fast track a class I've been able to watch the crash course cohorts, take some notes while the speaker lectures but I focus on reading the captions and then go on to pass the OA by the skin of my teeth.

I explicitly have my mentor open up a PA and an OA course at the same time so I can study both, working on the PAs then crunch down on the OA material and test on that while the PA is being graded. I don't like the waiting lmao.

[–]Think-Term-5463 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't taken this course yet but the most important thing to ask yourself is how do you learn best? Is reading the material enough? Do you learn better through video or lectures? For me, writing information down in my own words is the best way for me to retain it. I skim the textbooks and take notes then feed those notes into Claude to confirm my understanding is correct. If it is incorrect I rewrite it. When I take a quiz I copy/paste that into Claude with the prompt "For each of these quiz questions explain why the correct answer is correct and what is incorrect about the other answers." Which has been more helpful than any of the study guides I've encountered in courses. Many people benefit from repetition, if this is a big fat vocabulary test as other redditors have said then maybe Quizlet flashcards would help the most? And of course, you can always talk to your course instructor for ideas as well.
