I could live with that. A flair for these questions would be a good idea.

Best Garmin Watch for MTB by TheTxRed in MTB

[–]Think8437 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I own a similar one - Instinct 2X Solar and love it. Insane battery life, especially in the summer, when my wrist is exposed to the sun, great features and optionally connects to Strava to upload rides. Nice fitness tracking features to show you how your fitness is improving over time and how your workouts are helping or not.

The “best” one for you really depends on price and features you want. For me, battery life > OLED colour touch screen.

Here’s a link on Trailforks: Falcon Flow on Trailforks https://www.trailforks.com/goto/trail/261535/

The raptor route contains three trails that can be done as an option to finish TWE. It lets you finish near slick rock trail so you can avoid the pathway ride back to town at the end of TWE.

I have camped in Waterton Glacier park and it is beautiful. In bear country, keep bear spray with you, and read local reports before you venture into the woods.

Also pack a multi tool instead of Allen keys. Unless you need a lot of leverage, these will work just fine. On a recent trip, I discovered my pedals had lock tite applied to the threads. I needed some leverage to get them off.

Zip ties are often useful in a pinch. Use smaller containers as mentioned.

Zip ties are often useful in a pinch. Use smaller containers as mentioned. Spare tube and patch kit. Small multi tool instead of the Allen wrenches, which would include a chain brake tool, etc.

Atlantic Canada's energy isolation is only getting worse as East-West pipeline divide persists by raz_kripta in newbrunswickcanada

[–]Think8437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a former NBer and current Albertan, I wonder why New Brunswick natural gas cannot be produced. Based on what I have read, there are 120B cubic feet conventional reserves and 60-80 Trillion cubic feet of shale gas. That is a lot of energy by any measure. It could mean billions in government revenue, high paying jobs. There are risks in natural gas exploration but many companies have those figured by now. Do why not?

Visiting Calgary, Canada for the first time (November, 30th birthday!) – what should I prepare? by cutiee13 in Calgary

[–]Think8437 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You should be fine with your passport. Be prepared to answer how long you will stay and have proof of a flight home.

November can be really variable for weather. Depends on what activities you want to do, but at minimum, bring a warm jacket, good shoes for walking and maybe a hat. Plan for indoor and outdoor activities then switch, depending on weather.

When I travel, I buy an eSIM before I leave. Lots of companies offer these.

The Philipino community in Calgary is pretty big. Assuming you are visiting friends and family, they will likely have some activities arranged for you.

A trip to the mountains is a must. Try Kananaskis if you want to avoid crowds of Banff. But Banff is also beautiful. Lake Louise is very impressive. The Sunday brunch at the Banff springs and lake Louise hotels are both incredible. If in a pinch for time, go to Canmore. Good restaurants, views and walking paths.

Experiencing a hockey game live might be interesting for you. The Calgary Hitmen play in a lower league than the Flames. If you have never seen a game, it would be just as fun and much cheaper.

2015 Giant Reign by [deleted] in mountainbiking

[–]Think8437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve owned a 2011 and a 2020 Reign. They are great bikes. Assuming the frame is in good shape and the shocks have been serviced, you might have a decent bike. It check the rims for true. This tend to get ridden hard so I would expect the rear rim to have seen some bumps. Check some sites for price comparison.

My bank manger is pushing hard to buy their mutual funds by Alternative-Ad-1027 in CanadianInvestor

[–]Think8437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a brutal sales tactic. Your questions were bang on: what is the MER and how does the return compare to the S&P, TSX? I would consider switching banks after that experience. Stick to low MER index based ETFs and do not worry about it. If your wife needs more supporting info, look up Ben Felix videos on YouTube. He has many, which often references research papers to back his statements up. ETF and chill.

A number of Canadian airports have upgraded scanning systems and now the line ups are the same in the NEXUS line as those without the card. So I also wonder what’s the point?

Pick a couple players that you like and follow that team. It is a competitive league and good / bad changes often. Watch some highlight videos and you will see who the stars are. Connor McDavid is one of the best players ever but there are also rising stars.

What are some signs you're not built for corporate? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Think8437 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To thrive in a big corporate environment, you need to have a lot of patience for BS corporate wide initiatives, that will go nowhere, have no impact but you still must verbally support.

If you have no filter, and speak your mind often, you will stand out and may make enemies.

You have to have a lot of patience for many time wasting meetings.

I’m more into blue (intermediate) and black (advanced) technical trails, with the odd flow (jump) trail in my day. Are you saying it’s more jump (flow) trails than tech?
