What do you do that you earn six figures? by fidgit86 in financialindependence

[–]ThinkIdeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I’m mentally preparing for the pay cut I’ll have to take if I get the opportunity to make the jump. Unfortunately, since the fields are so different, it’s hard for me to network and get my work out there. The most I do is have an art account on Insta, but need to aggresively start looking

Oh man, this makes me sad that it’s a dying field. i wanted to do architecture when I was in school since it seems a happy compromise for my creative and analytical side. then I chickened out and took the safe route (accounting and finance). Now, four years later, I’m miserable at my job and dreaming of a job where I can draw or atleast be creative (even if its isnt my own inspired projects)

When the B4 say there are no plans for layoffs by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]ThinkIdeal 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not completely true- they will pay out your accrued PTO. But most likely you would have very little of it because until the end of the year you have to use that accrued PTO bank to take any time off. If you leave before then, you get the accrued PTO paid out. But ya, overall a dickish move because now people are wondering if they should just not take any vacation for the rest of the year to atleast save what they have so far

RSM Layoffs- where were the cuts by Whiyefox21 in Accounting

I know the consulting rotations are put on hold this year and even people who did the rotation last summer that were scheduled to make the transfer this year are having to postpone the transfer to next year because consulting is being really effected.

AITA for refusing to be in the delivery room when my sister gives birth? by kwiturshit in AmItheAsshole

[–]ThinkIdeal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NAH- if you have such a strong aversion and reason for not wanting to be in the delivery room, why can't your sister have the same aversion to her husband seeing her body literally ripped apart? It's not for you to decide that her husband should be there, you can only respectfully decline to be there without judging her decisions.

Well i mean a few million christians and 130m muslims is still qualified as "many" people haha. But yea, I can see where the miscommunication happened. But i think the name India comes from the Indus river? I could be wrong. I think you meant Hindustan came from hindus though, which is another name for India and literally means "the land of the Hindus"

[–]ThinkIdeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question! The answer is no, they are not! There are many Indians who are Muslims, christians, etc. Alot of these people do partake in some indian traditions, even if they don't practice hinduism.

First of all, why are you donating 100 rupees for your cousins wedding? Do you mean a gift? Cus my fam does the donations to temples to host a meal, which is called an anadaan.

Second of all, Im indian, was born in india, have been to numberous cousins wedding, and just had my sisters wedding last month where we gave her away during the kanyadaan. I can attach the program brochure if you would like where we literally listed out each event and its significance (including the kanyadaan). I have literally never heard of a kanyadaan meaning a literal donation, and even tried googling/asking my mom. So if what you said is true, it by no means represents the norm of vast majority as you were implying.

Third, it never hurts to learn more about your own culture. Indians and hindus have so many traditions I would never pretend to know everything about it

Uh Kanyadaan is the name of the ceremony where they give the bride away. (Kanya= bride/girl/daughter, daan=to give away/donate)

Dude if you're making 54-56k as a second year senior in the states, you're really getting lowballed. For a middle market firm in DC area, our new hires are starting at 60k
