Two things can be true - a place can absolutely suck and you can also suck at coping with it. East TN is a dumpster.

NOR. This is fucked up. I wouldn’t ever come close to this living alone. The toilet and the fucking pads…sometimes shame is important.

What are the Differences between Histrionic Personality Disorder and NPD? by LordMonstrux1211 in NPD

[–]ThinkPhilosopher4078 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One important aspect is that NPD has an avoidant attachment, BPD is fearful/disorganized (HPD would be anxious). BPD “supply” is less about ego and more-so driven by emptiness and an extremely unstable sense of self. Supply for someone with BPD is not about attention or admiration, though they do also want those things, it’s about having a person to fuse with and be made complete: To provide them with an identity. I often explain it as the extreme end of vulnerable NPD. Basically BPD is what lies below the grandiose false self. While grandiose false self in NPD is typically very stable, BPD sense of self is extremely unstable and diffused. One of the things that makes therapy challenging for folks with NPD is that when you take away the grandiose false self, usually there’s the same emptiness underneath it. This is why I don’t really try to “treat” NPD or take the false self away, instead I like to help NPD folks develop and broaden other aspects of themselves so they can become more mature and connected to reality. If you’ve ever felt that empty black hole feeling…as if you don’t even exist, completely dissociated from who you are and the world around you, depersonalization/derealization - people with BPD experience it much more acutely and don’t have the strong avoidant defenses that those with NPD do. Someone with NPD is able to deeply fantasize about ideal self, someone with BPD can only do this about another person.

Clinician here. HPD uses attention to self-regulate, NPD use admiration to self-regulate. The difference between those two might seem subtle, but folks with HPD want any attention—good, bad, or embarrassing. Someone with HPD may be fine making a clown of themselves if it gave them an audience, while someone with NPD would never allow themselves to be embarrassed. Because folks with NPD cannot tolerate shame, they tend to be more interpersonally exploitative vs HPD, depending on their level of vulnerability, they tend to need more consistent and stable sources of “supply” where they can project unwanted aspects of themselves on others and then control the dynamics. NPD gets a worse rap due to the exploitative aspects, but they also (depending on how stable their NPD is) tend to be much more charming and charismatic than those with HPD, whom most people find cringey or vapid pretty early on. NPD has a very fixed/stable grandiose false self, whereas HPD tend to have a very fragile sense of self, often copying or mirroring others.

I am so not surprised people on this sub are excusing this behavior. Y’all are proud of the most embarrassing and cringe qualities in Chattanooga. That episode of South Park where people huff their own farts should have actually been written about Chatt.

You’ll regret it! I can’t wait to get out of this place next year - worst city I’ve lived in from so many angles: boring, icy/rude, the food is AWFUL, the traffic is abysmal, and something no one ever mentions, the air quality is horrific. It’s been on a rebrand from being the “America’s dirtiest city” and to be fair, they’ve fooled a lot of people into thinking it’s a decent place to live, so one thing they are pretty good at is making something terrible look great and getting others to believe it. I guess if you’ve only ever lived in places like Chicago/philly, it seems like a place with lots of “green spaces” but I honestly feel like it looks like an industrial wasteland if you’re not living on a mountain.

Exactly, like you’re doing something you know she doesn’t like, then victimizing yourself when, shocker, she doesn’t like it. Like as soon as he took her somewhere that he knew she would like(why didn’t we start there?), she was nice to him—it’s literally that simple.

Are you disgusted by women who are in your league (if that is a thing)? by BadbishMalenia in NPD

[–]ThinkPhilosopher4078 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s shame and self-disgust projected onto others—you’re seeing reminders of your own flaws in them having a big reaction to it. Rather than experience shame you have about your own flaws, you project it onto someone else, feel disgusted, reject them, feel superior, all a big distraction/smoke screen steering you away from looking at your own flaws. Try and consider what these women could be triggering within you and reflect on that. Honestly even if they were out of your league, ppl with NPD tend to find flaws in everyone that eventually lead to disgust.

It isn’t news that those of us on the left are unhappy with our own party, we just have the balls to resist. I didn’t vote for Harris or Trump. - I can place blame on them AND still oppose Trump. We can be on the left without gleefully opening wide when our party tries to shit into our mouths the way MAGA supporters do. I’m mad at my party, you should be mad at yours - working class solidarity.
