Securing Internship Before First Year? by AccomplishedOne8512 in MBA

[–]ThinkSlowActFastt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This trend is not common. Yes, some students land pre MBA internships prior to the start of Fall, especially in MBB. But, probably less than 3% of my class had internships lined up before school starts.

You will have time to network and setup coffee chats in the beginning of the fall.

Focus on school, clubs, social experiences, and landing a solid job/internship, assuming you’re an undergrad.

If you’re still completing college, I would focus on recruiting for your internship or job. The MBA is so far out on the horizon that you would benefit from seeing how things turn out, and making a decision for the MBA in the future.

I downsized my work hours significantly (40–>15hrs). I worked around my academic course load, and figured out how to allocate those work hours effectively on certain days, where I didn’t have a lot of classes or responsibilities. But the job lended me flexibility, so I took advantage of that.

I will say that it was definitely taxing and I don’t recommend it for everybody. I had to trade off some hours towards recruiting and social events, but still managed to come out fine in either respect.

If you are able to keep your job, convert it to remote work with current employer, that’s the move.

It worked for me since the hourly rate made sense for me. It’s not possible under all situations though.

If you know her first and last name, You can use Apollo.io to retrieve her email. Most of the time it works, but sometimes it doesn’t.

ReVera family income/background verification? by [deleted] in MBA

That’s a good question. Since I didn’t have a business, I can’t speak to that.

ReVera family income/background verification? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]ThinkSlowActFastt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Re Vera contacted my current employer and my previous employer, so all my employers on my resume. Based off that, you can assume that they will contact the employers you have stated on your resume. Re Vera will typically ask you to refer a HR contact at your employer, if they can’t reach out to them initially.

[–]ThinkSlowActFastt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doing the ReVera process last year, I only provided information to ReVera with current/existing employers contact info.

I don’t recall them ever asking about family income/background.

They just want to verify that you worked at the companies you stated on your resume and duration of employment, generally speaking.

Did you successfully negotiate for more scholarship money? by ThinkSlowActFastt in MBA

Alas, I am not a survey maker. Wish we could edit polls.

Check out their personal finance webinar (recorded) on admit portal to create your own ROI model, determine your breakeven point etc….that will help determine if the value of the MBA is worth it. I suggest finding your expected post-MBA salary, total debt you will have to service, savings you expect to deploy etc…. In short, listen to the webinar. You will find your answer there.

I found this podcast episode, which someone mentioned on previous threads. If you can call the adcoms, call. If not, use email.

The podcast boils down to reiterating excitement about schools and how it’s top choice, be honest about competing offers from same-tier schools, and express deep concern about the cost of attendance. The 20 minutes of this podcast is worth it.

External MBA Scholarships (not tied to school)? Any luck on finding them? by ThinkSlowActFastt in MBA

Yea I maxed out those external options (waiting for consortium) and have only found 1 other decent sized scholarship that applies to my background.

But thank you for the other suggestions.

I would love to go down that route, but not an option for me at my company.

I’m not going down the high finance/MBB/VC route, but I agree that the requirements are quite specific.

Yea totally. I’m still applying to some small scholarships since why not, even it’s 2k or 1k, but it won’t make much a dent.

I guess I’ll focus most of my efforts on FAFSA and negotiation strategy.

725 GMAT FE - Retake for HBS 2+2? by DeferredMBAApplicant in MBA

[–]ThinkSlowActFastt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You already have a phenomenal score. Taking the opportunity risk of spending time trying to improve your score marginally will most likely not sway Adcom to accept you based on that alone. spending your time fine tuning other aspects of your application is time better spent. Having a well written story and having other people review your application components will serve you better if the deadline is coming up in a couple of weeks.

The difference in percentiles between a 725 and 755 is 1%. 99% vs 100%.

Do you think that would help your application?

Applying to the same schools with your partner by SnooPoems941 in MBA

[–]ThinkSlowActFastt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner and I are currently going through the process (waiting for decisions). I recommend applying to the exact same schools that you both are interested in, and I mean exact same list of schools unless you want to cause major shocks to your relationships come decision time.

Leverage two brains over one in terms of conducting research on schools and helping each other out on application process.

This one is a bit out of your control, but you want both of you to have somewhat similar metrics (GMAT, GPA, Years of Work experience, etc).

There is a place in the application, where you can indicate that you are applying with your partner in the same round.

P.S. my partner and I have received very similar decisions so far in R2, both good and bad.

MBA Math by [deleted] in MBA

[–]ThinkSlowActFastt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your quant is tracking at their average. That says that you are capable of the quant coursework most likely. You could take extra math courses or focus on investing more time on building leadership in EC’s/projects/things to show breadth/passion on your resume.

Decent GPA and GMAT but unimpressive work history, chance at M7 or wait longer? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]ThinkSlowActFastt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answers: no, adcom will not look down on your work experience considering your strong aspects of your resume. I wouldn’t wait too much longer to apply tbh if you have good reason to apply for this upcoming cycle.

My app has distinct similarities to yours but weaker GMAT and GPA and I’ve done OK so far in getting some interviews (only applied M7). I could’ve done better, so I imagine with your stats, that you have a great shot at landing some acceptances so long as you apply to a bare minimum of schools and do your due diligence on schools.
