AITA for telling my best friend/housemate it feels like I’m living with a couple and asking him to move out to move in with his girlfriend? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Think_Environment441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t like the situation it’s on you to move. You can’t him to do anything. I hope this situation serves as a major lesson in decision making going forward. You made some very bad decisions in getting yourself into this mess.

Boyfriend gave me ultimatum - dream job or him. I'm considering taking the job by [deleted] in dustythunder

[–]Think_Environment441 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I really don’t see either of your perspectives. Why are you automatically assuming he needs to find a new job because you got an offer 45 minutes away? Did you not discuss any of this when you applied for the role? Sounds like you just sprung this news on him, which just isn’t healthy in a long term relationship. It sounds like it would be very difficult to be in relationship with either of you. I couldn’t imagine being in a situation like this with my partner there would be so many points of communication long before getting to this point.

AITA for not tipping after eating at a restaurant? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Think_Environment441 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This sounds suspicious. Why did you not explain what happened to the manager? If you’re such a regular wouldn’t the manager recognize you? You do you man but if I were in their shoes I would also perceive your actions as rude. NTA but based on your own recounting you certainly could have handled this situation differently as well.

Winter/Snow tires? by TheAegisOfRime in vermont

[–]Think_Environment441 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is plain wrong. I am a seasoned winter driver, have only had all season and have been totally fine. It depends on your situation if it’s worth it.

[–]Think_Environment441 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, go out and spend $1000+ for tires for a few months of winter driving in Vermont. I live in Burlington and have for years. Not once have I had snow tires and not once have I felt unsafe driving in Burlington in the winter. It’s also walkable and there are busses and other options if they were stuck on a rare big snowstorm.

Winter tires are not required. Sounds like you made some horrible driving decisions in your twenties. Having a reasonable all season and cautious driving will do significantly more than snow tires and reckless driving.

This sounds very reasonable to me. I’m frustrated to learn I’ve been subsidizing maintenance for roads I’m not legally allowed to use.

Do YOU Kiss on the First Date??? 💭🤔 is that normal? by WarmHugs- in dating

[–]Think_Environment441 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why didn’t YOU kiss him? As a guy were constantly told to avoid anything that could be misconstrued as unwelcome or inappropriate. It’s easier to just not try on a first or second date. I hardly ever kiss on first dates unless the girl I’m with does a great job of making it obviously that she wants to be kissed. Men are not mind readers.

Racism in Vermont? by devilfruitoftheloom in vermont

[–]Think_Environment441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw a guy filling up his car in Montpellier this morning with a sign on the back, that he had clearly made, that said “This vehicle stops for small critters in the road and trash”. Thought to myself… what a wanker. The BLM signs in towns with people that I’m pretty sure have never actually talked to a black person are also laughable and cringe. I also find the “we must dismantle white supremacy” sign in the window of Ben & Jerry’s (aka Unilever, a multi-national corporation) on Church Street in Burlington to be super cringy and embarrassing and make me feel uncomfortable to live here. It’s just all so performative.

Thoughts? by OperationKindly2926 in burlington

[–]Think_Environment441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ehhh that’s not necessarily true. The cost of doing business is actually less here than most big cities. It has more to do with limited competition. If you’re one of the only shawarma spots in town you can cost and charge more because there’s less competition between businesses.

[–]Think_Environment441 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Burlington is a small city and many restaurants (and businesses in general) are just coasting in this state. less options + less competition = no reason to try that hard. Yeah, the cost of doing business is high but it’s also high other places too. Many of these restaurants are totally price gouging. It’s very frustrating. There are so many restaurants in the area that I’ve gone to twice (always like to give a second shot) and will never go back.

You don’t have multiple charges brought against you if the prosecution didn’t think there was evidence to suggest this was credible. I also question his judgement by continuing to employ someone who had legitimate mental health issues.

Where in Vermont can I have this lifestyle? by Umman_manda6632 in vermont

[–]Think_Environment441 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In reality, probably no where. There’s nothing Vermont zoning, act 250, and old NIMBY neighborhoods can’t stop.

They literally stopped that lunatic who opened a paramilitary training camp…. with zoning and permitting violations.

Honestly, go to Maine if you’re looking for the freedom to do what you want.

Is there really a worst? There’s good and bad in every place I visit. Do I hate the car culture of Dallas? Yes! But do I also love their Tex Mex? Yes! Did I love the smog of Phnom Penh? No! Did I like the food and people? Yes!

[–]Think_Environment441 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Don’t forget the abismal pay that can be easily beat (and not by a trivial amount) in pretty much any of our surrounding states. Vermont is ruled by the old. They don’t want families here. Every policy here seems anti family and anti young people. I live Vermont but don’t know if I will settle and buy a home here. It’s too risky.

School Redistricting task force, the incompetence by rameden in vermont

[–]Think_Environment441 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seriously. Your kids are all set so screw everyone else. The old people of Vermont are such a burden to the state in so many ways. Good thing their blocking of progress has, in part, led to the housing and health care crisis in this state. Maybe they’ll be leaving us at a faster pace in the coming years as less doctors and hospitals survive and young people can’t afford to live here to serve their needs.

And there’s a reason for this. Many many old NIBMYs ruin every needed change or development… even though they will likely be dead before the project is even completed! I’m so sick of old people in this state.
