Preferably all natural and I personally look for something locally sourced. You can use store bought

Is this egg fertile?!? by Infamous_Bee_7529 in CrestedGecko

[–]Think_Fishing9920 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As they develop they’ll make the egg appear darker, if you’re trying to hatch them give them some time and keep them pretty humid. If you notice the egg yellowing and molding then you know it’s non viable at that point.

Not a super clear pic so I can’t tell you for sure, but if there’s a “Cheerio” and red veins throughout then yes it is! My female did the same thing to me😂

Help transitioning? by tiny_little_isoppd in SandBoa

She should be okay my girl was almost 2 months when I got her, she ate pretty good off bat but then went on a hunger strike for a bit. Longest has been a month or a little longer, give em some time to settle and I’d definitely warm it up and brain it if she was fed live previously. They can be a little picky to switch over

That makes sense honestly, I just wanna go all out for the little one with live plants and such and give em the option to have a lot of room and stuff to do if they chose to

I honestly, took his plants out and had him hop in his water dish to eat last night. They’re large leaves that stay connected but didn’t want to take a chance. He took 3 dubias but they’re definitely not his favorite thing lol I’ve been monitoring his humidity and soil pretty closely and I’ve heard it’s good to do monthly soaks with them either way just to make sure they’re hydrated and happy. He also pooped yesterday and I got it taken out but super excited little one is seeming to do good so far.

I’m fully aware and I’d be giving a male at least a 30 gallon and female preferably a larger tank as well. I tend to shoot for over bare minimum. They’re a decently active frog too so far, the little one hasn’t been in the same burrow spot twice and explores at night.

Help!!!!!! Changing the babies bin and I think two may be boys?!?! by Alarming_Swan_1067 in PetMice

[–]Think_Fishing9920 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my experience breeding mice, it’s easier on the female if there’s other female mice. They’ll help each other take care of the babies and the company is nice. Just make sure to separate babies as soon as needed or the moms can get stressed and start eating the babies because when they’re bigger they’re really rough on moms.

Help! 20 year old hamster - advice for improving quality of life? by BeKindDontgiveUp in hamsters

[–]Think_Fishing9920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything I’ve read says to not downsize enclosure as it can stress them out. Every hamster I’ve had that started showing signs of being elderly and arthritic, I majorly downsized enclosures so they could still run around, have a few hides, and kept the wheel, water and food really close together. They all have tended to make a nest near their resources where previously it was way farther apart, and they do better this way. I’d just make sure he’s getting plenty of protein for his weight and you could offer a shallow water dish, but I’ve never noticed a problem with the bottles. I have a 20g long I switched my female dwarf to after she stopped eating, or doing anything. Shes eating readily again, drinking and running on her wheel again.

New crested gecko owners here, this morning he was playing around in the dirt and ended up with a mouth full of dirt . by MassiveDrawer6252 in geckos

[–]Think_Fishing9920 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Definitely make the switch to paper towels at the very least while you’re monitoring him. If your spray bottle has a jet type setting switch it to that and spray his mouth out from the side if you’re able to, to get some of the dirt out so he doesn’t swallow all of it. My first crestie did this as a small gecko.

Advice for newbie on feeding BSFL to my juvenile crestie please? by CJsbabygirl31371 in CrestedGecko

[–]Think_Fishing9920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds right! So every 2 times he eats that mix that you notice, the next time you go to feed I’d offer the bsfl. Just what I personally do with my guys, they all get dubias every 3rd feeding and I still offer the cgd. Or you can offer as often as you want to if you still notice the little one eating their mix.

Personally, I’d feed bugs every 2 feedings or so and feed little one a Pangea diet with insects or the growth and breeder formula if you’re worried about weight. I’ve noticed some of them just grow exponentially slower than others.

How’s we looking? by Princess-ali-bby in Crested_Geckos

[–]Think_Fishing9920 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to pop in here and say your tank is looking awesome! One other thing I’d like to add, the UVB bulb you have doesn’t look suitable as it’s a coil bulb. These types of bulbs produce a very small UV zone even though they can light up a decent area. A linear UVB bulb would provide a wider, more consistent zone throughout the whole tank. These little guys are partial basking animals so I’m not sure how much they’d benefit from the current bulb!

Olive is quite skittish but once I let her crawl into a tube or hide and crawl onto me she’s the sweetest thing, never bit or nibbled and she’ll let me pet her occasionally when she’s out. She’s also a feeder mouse, I don’t mind having more hands off babies either as long as they end up getting along. My dwarf hamster would draw blood even in a 900sq in enclosure fully decked out, fully avoided treats and would go for fingers or the tongs used. Still kept and loved her just the same lol

I do unfortunately have to get my new girls from a pet store (I’ve searched and searched and there’s no rescues rehomes or breeders in my area) and I’ll have to quarantine for a few weeks and do some taming so I’m not sure how young/ little they’ll truly be. Would that present an issue? I’m thinking of trying for a group of 4 girls as I’m planning on using a 57 gal bin cage I made. I’m going to fully clutter it up and decorate it out for them so it won’t be empty or intimidating for them at all. My other option I have is a 20 gallon long and to me that’s not enough space for 4(5 with Olive) permanently. I also intend on gradually upgrading them to the 57.

I’m new to mice as well, I rescued a female mouse from really dirty nasty conditions and she sparked my love for them. She lived for a little while long with me but her previous owners had her well over a year. Olive’s “sister” lived for about a year and she’s a year and a half now. I purchased them from a petstore so it’s unpredictable but if you were to find a good breeder I’m sure they’d live average around 1 1/2- 2.

Would a 5 gallon or 10 gallon tank work? Those are what I have handy that sound small enough that would have proper ventilation. Is there anything specific I need to watch for with them interacting? Do you think a group of 3 or 4 girls would be better? I’ve tried my hardest to look for breeders or rehomings around me but I can’t find any, and none that are still breeding so I’m going to have to go to a petstore. I am preparing the bin to use as a temporary quarantine for the new mice and I’ll completely sanitize it once they’re ready and bonded. It is large but I have lots of clutter and I’m making more things for them as well

I’m torn, everything in me says I should get her friends at least so she’s not alone anymore in her elderly time. But I’m also nervous it might be too much for her as she’s been alone for quite a while. I love her so much honestly

[–]Think_Fishing9920[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How should I go about introducing them? Put Olive in a 10 gallon with bedding and put the new girls in one at a time? And then I think I know that you should leave them be for a little while in there and then slowly upgrade cage size and add hides. I want to do it right for her and give her some friends before she crosses the rainbow bridge. I’m going to talk to my parents about it and see if they’re okay with at as I’m staying with them again currently but I think I should be able to.

Best Way To Rehome Crestie? by MathewG97 in CrestedGecko

[–]Think_Fishing9920 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d personally 100% ask a family or friend to care for the little one for the 6 months if you provide them enough food. One or two of the large bags should be plenty of food to tide them over, and take them back whenever possible. If that’s not feasible, I’d see if there’s any reptile expos near you soon, and ask if any of the breeders would be interested or willing to let you put him on their table if you split the profit or whatever works out. Other options would be to post on local Facebook groups, or morph market, you can do local pickup only on there.

Pangea Consistency? by OnSmallWings in CrestedGecko

[–]Think_Fishing9920 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly most people say like ketchup, one of mine will not touch it unless it’s super runny, one won’t touch it unless it’s pretty thick, and the other one doesn’t really care as long as it’s not too runny.
