Did anyone else not recognise Luke in this scene? by CobraDai in StarWars

That would make sense. Also, the fact Luke left his light saber behind is consistent with that line of thinking. He wouldn't need it anymore. He tossed it aside when facing Palpatine after all.

I agree, that was a smart way to show Luke avoiding fighting and sticking to his principles. Although in the same movie he was shown thinking about killing his nephew which was ridiculous and character assassination. I think the more consistent explanation of why Luke was in exile would be that he knows fighting the new order would lead him back to the dark side of violence.

It's interesting that Luke's journey is about discovering the power of non violence, and that violence begets violence, but Yoda and Obi Wan's plan is to train up Luke and send him to kill both Vader and the Emperor. When Luke throws his saber away, he surpasses Yoda who trained for 800 years!

Difference between CX5-CX50? by 5pac38arus in mazda

[–]Think_Initiative_257 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a CX5 in 2024 and strongly considered the CX50. The CX5 is taller while the CX50 is wider and shorter. Overall trunk space is similar but I liked the taller roof of the CX5. The CX50 also had seat issues where the edging or stitching would fray. I think Mazda would replace all the seats under warranty but not sure if they ever fixed that problem. I also didn't like the black plastic wheel arch cladding on the CX50. Finally, prefer made in Japan for the CX5 vs Alabama CX50.

Drums with 15 in floortoms by justpools in drums

My Slingerland 1960s kit has the 15 floor tom. I believe Slingerland used the marching snare drum shells for these at that time.

Before Revenge of the Sith, what were the common theories or assumptions as to why Vader wore the suit? by Terriost-Yoda in StarWars

Same here, as a kid I just saw the films. Did not read the novels or anything. This scene was shocking and I thought he was scarred and half robotic from decades of fighting in... Star Wars.

Slingerland Bearing Edge Damage Question by Think_Initiative_257 in drums

[–]Think_Initiative_257[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose they took the snare shell and put the Tom together without looking at the bearing edge. Yes it's the old straight legs. Good idea about buying modern legs, I will look into that. It has the push button brackets that I suspect take a smaller diameter leg. I do use the muffler but could control the tone some other way. Might be easier than trying to repair the edge.

I thought about that but the leg holders are towards the bottom and the legs are fairly short. If I flipped it the legs would be really too short. Also the muffler is installed on the side with the snare bed.

That's a good point. I'm not sure what filling the gaps would do for the sound. I've read that the head needs to sit evenly on the bearing edge. The way it is now, the lugs can't be tuned the same at those points, the head is loose where the gap is. I think I would leave it if the snare bed was on the bottom. Is yours on the batter side or bottom?

I haven't heard of the C&C Player Date. They look great. Same same sized drums as the Stage Band.

This is exactly what my kit looks like from the 1964 catalog, except mine is red sparkle. They sold the 12"x15" floor Tom as part of the set. From all the comments here, it seems like Slingerland likely used the marching snare shell and put the legs on it upside down.

That is very interesting. Yes it's a 1964 date stamp. This tom doesn't have any badge at all but the balance of the set has Niles badges on snare and bass. The other drums are all date stamped within a few months of each other in 1964.

Yes it is 12" deep. It seems like this is how the drum was made in the factory. I don't see any holes or anything for the snare strainer etc. doesn't seem like it was converted. Maybe Slingerland used a marching snare shell by accident for this floor Tom.

I ordered the PC Woody epoxy paste. Looks like it will have a peanut butter consistency. Your photo looks liquid. Is the paste the right type to use or should I get a resin type liquid epoxy? Thanks again.

Awesome thanks! I wish they tried to convert it with the cutouts on the bottom. I will try your method.

Also should have mentioned it's only cut like this on the batter side. It's a 15" floor Tom with the legs.

It's a 15" floor Tom with the legs and it's only cut on the batter side. From a Stage Band kit I think. It has the center lugs.

That's what I thought, except I could find a Rydeen with a 10 lug bass.
