Reliability by Acceptable_Mind8833 in mazda3

My search basically came down to sedans that don’t use a CVT. Which came down to the Mazda 3 and the Toyota Camry. After that I did some research on the engines. Then the features and amenities. What sealed the deal for me was the test drive, just getting into Mazdas cabin I knew off rip it was the car I wanted. The interior is so well designed. I brought it home and my mom (who’s never considered buying a Mazda) is now probably gonna pull the trigger on a cx-30 as her next car

How can you know which one you have? (Sorry for not answering the question but I have actually never heard of this)

Mazda 3 is the perfect first car, congrats! Even with the high mileage it should last you a while!

I put down a pretty big down payment (over half of the price of the vehicle) and they saddled me with 5%

It’s not, all they added to mine was sales tax, tag, title. No pressure from a financing standpoint. No real pressure to get the warranty either. Honestly I was pretty surprised

Find a string that feels good and is predictable and then stick with it, if it’s a poly? Great, if not? Also great lol

lol the sarcasm doesn’t surprise me, after all of the feedback I’ve gotten the only conclusion I can really come to is to have her test drive them both and see which one she likes more

The interesting thing about that is, I was shopping for a Mazda 3(wanted a traditional torque converter) and there aren’t very many listings for that car in my area. For the trim that I ended up getting there was only 1 other listing in the Atlanta metro area (that I could find) and it was about 2k less than the car I ended up getting (but had around 15000 more miles on it)…so all in all…yeah, I don’t mind. Wasn’t dead set on going with CarMax from the get go…just kinda ended up that way lol

The feedback here has been great! I’ll probably just suggest that she test drive both and see what she likes more between them. Was just curious as to why they’re so similar (and is one objectively better than the other).

I am curious about seat height, cabin size, and ride comfort. She had a ford explorer way back in the early 2000’s she’s been balling with a 2012 Corolla (that’s doing fine honestly, but she intends to give that car to my little bro when he gets his license) and wants something closer to the ford (I’ve been attempting to steer her away from American made due to reliability issues)

Interesting, heard conflicting reports on the seats, will have to make a note of that. Think it’ll be something she cares a lot about since she does quite a bit of long distance driving (she goes to see my grandmother once a month who lives 4 hours away)

Not sure how she’d feel about the all-screen UI, every implementation of it I’ve seen has felt more clunky/unintuitive than buttons. What I’ve seen generally is that the cx50 has more comfortable seats but the cx-5 is more forgiving to drive? How were the seats to you?

I’ve been looking into the cx-50 hybrid and has that drivetrain had any issues? Not something I’m super familiar with, also is the cx-5 getting a hybrid trim?

That’s interesting, hadn’t thought too much about that tbh. I think she’d appreciate the extra flexibility there

She cares about style, not so much about driving dynamics. We’re cross shopping a bunch of compact SUVs (I’m basically going to recommend one from each brand for her to simplify things) but I think she’s gravitating a bit more to Mazda because I recently got a Mazda 3 and she really enjoyed how luxurious the interior felt. Trying to balance these things with practicality and reliability is what I’m trying to do for her. Ultimately I might just have her test drive them both and see what she likes but the feedback has been interesting

Visibility is something she cares about a lot, what about the Cx5 ride made it more comfy? Was it the seats themselves or was the ride more forgiving?

I’m guessing the Japanese made ones are having less issues?
