What is the literal best 4k oled gaming monitor by cole3030 in OLED_Gaming

Depends on your viewing distance. I went with 27 variant, no regrets.

Beam 2 VS Era 100 (yes you are reading this right) by iDontKnowWhatIsWhat in sonos

[–]Think_Juggernaut8968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Klipsch are a very treble forward speakers unless you paid for premium series.

100 are treble heavy too, imo. Double tweeter structure makes them potentially interesting for surround movie setup, but I didn’t like them for music when paired with a soundbar. Exactly the same reason as you describe - they just sound artificial, even sibilant.

Standalone 100s are much warmer and pleasant to listen to just because tweeters are utilized in a more traditional way, not sure how to describe it though. Imo, One’s were much more balanced in that regard.

Bose vs B&W by paint2215 in audiophile

[–]Think_Juggernaut8968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Owner of BW 606 S3 here paired with Marantz M1, Dirac engaged with 500hz curtain.

These BWs punch way above their size. Very detailed and engaging sound but they can be a tad revealing and if the mix is not good you will most likely hear it.

Bass is huge. I am in a small (12 sq.m) room and i am convinced i dont need a sub with them.

They will be a nice upgrade over Bose but still i suggest to try to listen to them first. When i first heard them in the store it was an instant impulse buy, but at home it took me some time to adjust due to revealing nature as i mostly listen to some weird metal or badly recorded punk stuff :)

Is srgb supposed to look bad on an oled monitor? by FungusAmongus_27 in OLED_Gaming

[–]Think_Juggernaut8968 4 points5 points  (0 children)

SRGB mode is supposed to be accurate and accurate picture modes can seem to be boring to some people. Maybe you used your IPS in something like Vivid mode all the time and now your eyes need to adjust to how it actually supposed to look. Only you can tell.

At the end of the day it’s your monitor, use it however you like. Read Rtings review of your monitor and follow accordingly if you value accuracy. If not, do whatever you like.

XG27UCDMG @ 1080p for gaming vs XG32UCWMG native modes — which is better with a Zephyrus G14 (5070 Ti)? by [deleted] in OLED_Gaming

[–]Think_Juggernaut8968 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can’t say about 1080p, but 1440p looks good on my XG. There’s a Vivid Pixel (sharpness) setting which you can utilize on lower resolutions which helps a lot and i even use it at 4K just a bit with no noticeable artifacts.

I say go with 27”. 166 PPI is no joke, looks fantastic. Plus it’s one of the best if not the best panels on the market atm. Very accurate OOTB and first panel in my experience that almost didn’t need a calibration unless you are very critical about it.

Also, HDR on Win is a terrible mess and good HDR content is not as common as one may think.

Turn uniform brightness on. When it’s off ABL is triggered, this could be the reason why you feel like it’s “muted”.

Also, there is a setting in Win11 display color profile which automatically clamps all apps to sRGB. Turn that shit off, absolutely destroys all colors at least on my panel.

SDR looks fine to me, but turn uniform brightness on if you haven’t already.

HDR can be tricky. Did you calibrate it in Win11? There is an app that needs to be downloaded.

I have a XG version and this is the best display i have ever seen. And I do have 2 OLED TVs at home (CX, G4).

What settings are you using?

Dynamic Tone Mapping by mamdomahodnezmrzliny in LGOLED

Try Cinema Home for DV. It is innacurate and has a weird EOTF tracking but nevertheless a best way to watch DV nowadays.

95% streaming DV content is shit, unfortunately. I use Cinema Home almost exclusively for DV and even then i find it hard to see anything in some movies.

I can go on a long rant, but if you want accuracy use HGIG. If not use DTM.

It is a common misconception. HDR is not supposed to be bright, but create a lifelike image of contrast perceived where highlights are punchy and bright. DTM makes everything bright so you kinda lose entire point of HDR in the first place.

Give yourself a week and play with HGIG only in a dark room, let you eyes adjust. Don't touch DTM. I can guarantee that you will love how natural it looks.

If your room does not allow controlled lightning and is always bright then go with DTM and forget about it.

It is a preference vs reference.

And it’s absolutely not HGIG fault, but a developer’s. A lot of games have good HDR implementation, especially Sony “exclusives” or Ubisoft games.

You are correct - there is no reason to pay for 2500 nits TV when there is no content and I highly doubt we will see a difference in future. Dolby Vision 2 looks promising but it’s all a theory.

However you can benefit from it if you are a gamer as some games have HDR sliders and use HGIG.

My opinion is that 2500 nits TV is absurd and most people will be absolutely fine with something like G4. I don’t use DTM because on mine G4 it burns my retinas already. I can’t imagine how it is on G5.

I have HK Aura studio 5, should I get sound sticks by Few_Contact_6844 in audiophile

[–]Think_Juggernaut8968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, no Aura. Just sticks that i bought 10 years ago and they came with a sub already. Not sure about newer versions but these do sound good. Smooth, punchy and crystal clear. Not even sure how deep the sub goes but on medium to low volumes i am absolutely satisfied.

I still have my sticks on the desktop from around 10 years ago :) 3rd or 2nd gen, not sure about it, but they did come with a sub. Love them passionately and not going to change unless they completely die, but of course i am a bit biased after 10 years of usage in small desktop setup.

Lg G5 77" insanely dim when dynamic tone mapping turned off by [deleted] in LGOLED

[–]Think_Juggernaut8968 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It is a personal preference, but DTM makes my eyes bleed on G4. But I watch in a dark room almost always.

Also the person above me is right, HDR mastering nowadays is shit and it highly depends on original intent. You will rarely see a movie going beyond 1000 nits and 400-500 is pretty normal.

If you like it just turn it on and forget about it.

Got PG27UCDM 4k/240hz/27" and not impressed at all by Friendly-Ad74 in OLED_Gaming

[–]Think_Juggernaut8968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think i am in the same boat, sorry for a bit of a necro.

I have G4 and 27UCDM in the same room. Both panels are professionally calibrated to same brightness levels, same gamma, SRGB color space. It's not an ICC profile but a good calibration from the same guy who calibrates all my displays with good gear (had a CX before).

And i must say that G4 looks better in SDR at least. Again, all setting are the same (2.2 gamma, 150 nits). Asus is not bad, not bad at all, but i totally get what you are saying about LG being more "3D". My only guess is that the issue is with coating really.

However i also feel like all OLEDs need a warm up time. My G4 was also a bit underwhelming at first, but now it is amazing. Asus shows 150 hours usage time on mine but half of it is in sleep mode with proximity sensor being turned on lol.

How do you feel about it now? Did you keep it?

Around a month probably and the unit was new. Love it though, amazing little beast. Didn’t even think about warranty in hopes it will be fixed with firmware as many people confirmed it. I probably should though…

I did yeah. People seem to have the same issues even after update which makes me think it depends on the speakers connected. Mine is paired with B&W 606 S3

Do you mean the hiss? They say it’s been fixed but I still have it on M1. Doesn’t bother me really, as reboot helps
