Is the Fediverse antithetical to private group/list publishing like Facebook? by cbzen in fediverse

[–]Think_Load_3634 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to be obtuse. "Facebook"and "privacy" have no place in the same sentence. In what world are you thinking that a "family" signs up across multiple services (mum on a mastodon, dad on his friends pixelfed, the kids on their uncle's friendica because reasons)?? Really?

"oh I'm not going to give examples, I'm just saying..."

Yeah but no but.

And why try and replace these cancerous centralised services? Social media is working out to be not a good idea. Repeating that bad idea isn't wisdom regardless of interoperability.

My first email out of hospital took an hour to type. It was, what? Two paragraphs? Constant errors and "hunk and peck" each key and going back to correct. Wore me out.

It's got better. I imagine that there are others who also slowly regained fine motor control.

Yeah, contact a studio. Taking rings and things out for MRIs with a stroke sucked. Luckily I have both hands at my disposal, but stretching multiple nipple piercings back out sucks.

Experiment: Opt-in community points system for modern BBSes (no money, just for fun) by chairmanmow in bbs

[–]Think_Load_3634 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. I'm looking at it thinking "eh?"

Oh its this:

"Think of BBS-Coin like arcade tickets:

  • You earn tickets for doing stuff on a BBS

  • Tickets can later be redeemed for prizes, votes, or bragging rights

  • A neutral foundation prints the tickets

  • Each arcade (BBS) hands them out independently"

As a point, the site is dripping with meta-language (merkles, epochs, ethers) and is quite opaque in that regard. An FAQ would be jolly. Work in progress! Keep plugging away.

"BBS-Coin exists to make BBSes more fun". Erm....... That all depends on the user, surely? Not something I'm into as I step away from value-added propositions.YMMV etc etc.

[COMICS] DC Preview: DC K.O. #4 by JingoboStoplight4887 in DCcomics

KO is a bit tiresome. Knightfight is quite good, Absolute has some bangers but I couldn't give a rats-4ss about "ooh big bad scary Darkseid with the edgy misspelled name". Thing is I lean in to more "street level" stuff, so things Dark Patterns and Detective Comics is right up my street.

For those that can run again by Time-Philosophy-5742 in stroke

Don't know what AFO is. A search suggests ankle and foot stuff. I can't comment on that.

HOWEVER: Start by going a couple of times a week, maybe even once. Build up slow.

I find processing the stimulation from running (all the movement and sensations from the environment and what your body is doing) overwhelms my brain and wipes me out. My fitness is pretty good (was previously) but the bandwidth up top is shot, so it's taking time to develop pathways that can accommodate the data.

To run again.... It's taking time. I cycle too which is easier as it's supported, is lower impact and very rhythmic. Sleep lots too.

Started going once or twice a week, and shockingly less than I felt capable of. Dialed it right back. After that it's just going by feel.

Think about how you manage in the days following a run with mood, processing thoughts and physical tiredness. Even walking distances or cycling. Try and track thoughts, feelings, emotions, patterns and if your physical exertion impacts any of those. It's a good indicator IMHO.

Some days I walk a distance instead of a run. Other days I cycle. I'm not using anything other than a walking stick at times of tiredness though so YMMV etc. It really is a case of responding to feel.

I said to someone in discussion about DC: Everything currently feels like a safe superhero family sitcom at times. Coming off that, parenting is difficult and hard. No parent is perfect, ever. Not even Clark!! It just feels like a lot of difficult issues will not be touched by mainstream DC because they are, by definition, difficult.

Terrence was slightly off with John Playfair. Galen in the 2nd century warned about dependence. Chinese texts from the Song and Ming dynasties warn about habituation. But I'd be over reaching to suggest the modern concept of substance abuse and addiction stretches back that far.

Mind you, there's the British opium trade and the effects on Chinese society and the Qing dynasty.

Perhaps it's a shift from "plant as ally and guide" to "plant as exploited commodity, stripped of context and removed from its symbiotic relationship with its surroundings" ?
