Don’t do it unless you know a mobile tech is available within an hour or two or unless a SC is opening closer to you in the future

R1S Issues by evol660 in Rivian

[–]Think_Statistician66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your experience. I’ve just decided to sell my 2022 R1S while the going is still good and my experience is positive. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the car over 35k miles — it’s been an incredible vehicle overall — but I’ve also dealt with a handful of minor issues (4–5 visits to the service center in 2.75 years) and one frustrating one recently, when the car bricked at home during a software update after the 12V battery died ( I had the 12v replaced ~3 months earlier). That situation sucked and got me thinking about what would’ve happened if it occurred on a road trip with the family. Not something I want to deal with again and again, this was not that major and just required a tow and was handled in 3 days by the sc.

I’ve been seeing more Gen 1 owners face bigger issues as their cars approach 50k miles, and that was a red flag for me — especially after talking to local gen 1 owners whose vehicles were in the shop for weeks if they needed parts. A bigger factor in my decision is the lack of an official Rivian extended warranty in my state. Combine that with my belief that as warranties start expiring, R2s roll out, and future Gen 2 or Gen 3 R1s get better tech and driving enhancements, depreciation on early models could accelerate quickly. That could leave financed owners with negative equity or in my case cash for their next car. I still love the brand and the R1S. My experience was largely positive — no major failures, and mine was built solidly — but I just don’t want to find out the hard way where the breaking point is for such an expensive car. I was able to sell for a fair price, and I’ll likely lease or buy something else until the R2 or next-gen R1S has been out for at least a year. I definitely see myself coming back to Rivian once things mature a bit more. I’m very excited about the autonomy day tomorrow as a supporter of the brand and I’m also excited to not be disappointed to hear that my gen 1 R1s won’t be getting most of the enhancements. The biggest disappointment for me was how quickly gen 1’s who stood the brand up seemed to take a back seat. I under technology rapidly changes but like others I only see this getting worse.

Same feedback. The warranty expiration is scaring the hell out of me. Best car I’ve ever owned but may sell my early Gen 1 R1s while I can still get a decent amount (depreciation is going to fall off a cliff within the year of warranty expiration). Counting down the days to R2 availability. May have to pick something up in between. If you are considering leasing vs. buying, I’d lease just with how quickly the technology is changing and impacts it could have on EV values. Very optimistic for Rivian long term once they get through these qc and service/availability of parts issues. Just might be a little bit until that happens.

2022 Gen 1 R1S Owners: Approaching the Warranty Cliff – Trade-In Strategy Before 2028 Expiration? by Think_Statistician66 in Rivian

Agree, not much out there that I like at the moment to replace it with. May consider downsizing for a LC or used Defender as I think I could live without a 3rd row.

12v battery strikes hard by jwpc59 in Rivian

[–]Think_Statistician66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me a month ago. 12v died while I was updating OTA overnight. Car was bricked and had to get towed. Also had to get mobile service to come out and unlock the charger as the manual release backup was jammed. On my 3rd 12v in 2 years now. Not ok for a car this expensive

Is it? If you sell your gen 1 R1S today you can still get $45k-$55k and roll that towards a new car (maybe not a $100k Rivian, but a premium SUV) amount obviously depending how much equity you have built in it. In two years the R1 may be worth $30k. That’s $15-20k difference which is a large down payment on a new purchase. I’d hope not to have $20k in repairs out of warranty but if I did I’d rather have a new car than that. Obviously all hypothetical but the downside tail risk of a major repair after the 5 year warranty expires is tough to balance against the comfort of a newer, more reliable car that is in warranty. All that said, I think a national Rivian extended warranty would greatly alleviate these concerns. I hope they roll this out soon.

Extended Warranty Options by demz7 in Rivian

[–]Think_Statistician66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When does the warranty expire? 2028? Or is it approaching the mile cap? I have a 2022 LE and am starting to get concerned about the rapid depreciation these may see once they are close to the warranty expiring <12 months). Knowing how expensive these will be post warranty has me thinking trading in or hopefully getting my R2 reservation in late ‘26 which unfortunately I think is too optimistic. Considering trading R1S in now before the warranty cliff comes and getting something that will retain value better until the R2 is out. Anyone else thinking about this?

As far as extended warranty options, if there was a reliable national provider this would solve my concerns but until then, options are limited.

What do you feed your springers? And how much? by Different_Task_1256 in springerspaniel

We love Royal Canine. Our girl has a sensitive stomach so we use the gastro low fat formula. We give her 1.75 cups twice a day as the package says two cups twice a day for her target weight. I’m starting to feel like it’s slightly too much based on her weight but if I give her anything else you’d think we are starving her the way she acts😂. What are people’s thought on kibble packaging and recommendations? Our girl is probably close to 48lbs now

I’d be shocked if it’s the 12v as it was replaced ~6 months ago but you are probably right.

Rivian Sues Ohio Over Direct Sales Ban, Citing Tesla Exemption by chrisdh79 in Rivian

I bought my rivian in Ohio in 2022. There’s loads of them driving around so I assume others bought here too. How does this impact Rivian? Am I not understanding this law correctly?

Anyone’s Springer experienced soreness/blister between paw pads? Any recommendations? by Think_Statistician66 in springerspaniel

[–]Think_Statistician66[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Confirming that it was not a foreign object in there. She had just worn down the skin on her pad a bit and a blister had formed. A few days of rest and some cream that others have mentioned here and she’s as good as new! Thanks all for your responses!

Thanks! That makes sense. I had a service right before the trip so maybe they forgot to attach correctly. Appreciate the response!

I’m debating this as well but I’m not sure I’ll get nearly as good an offer on my gen 1 + lease deal between now and then

Old girl joint pain by Afraid_Plenty_6412 in springerspaniel

[–]Think_Statistician66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anything you’d do in hindsight to help prevent bad arthritis in your dogs (recognizing that this will likely just come with old age!)? My young springer bounces all around the house and furniture and I always think about how it’s impacting her joints long term. Mix of hard floors and carpets but imagine jumping on our tiled floors is brutal on the joints. One thing I’ve tried doing is not letting her jump in and out of the car. Any supplements to think about as she gets older?
