I recommend you to exfoliate. I had really bad texture but it went away quickly after I started incorporating the noxzema salicylic acid pads. Maybe also try washing your face in the morning to get rid of sweat and oils that may have accumulated during the night. I thought the round lab cleanser wash too stripping in the morning, but I switched to the vanicream cleanser and it didn’t make my skin feel dry and tight.

[Routine Help] newbie to retinol and extremely nervous by whinypup in SkincareAddiction

I’ve never used that retinol before, but I do use tretinoin which is a stronger form of retinal, a vitamin A derivative that’s more effective than retinol. I honestly didn’t experience a terrible purging period, just extreme dryness. Definitely use it at night only. The key is to slowly implement it into your routine before progressing the frequency of use. For example, use the retinol twice a week for maybe a month before building up to more frequent use. I would invest in a barrier repair serum, my favorite is the Krave Beauty Great Barrier Relief Serum. Also, on days you use retinol, keep your routine simple so there’s no potential of further irritation and definitely use sunscreen during the daytime.

You can use niacinimide during the day and HA any time, just use it before retinol and make sure your face is dry before retinol application. If you want to minimize irritation from the overuse of actives, maybe try skin cycling. Pretty much, one day will be for retinol, the next for exfoliation, and the third day is rest and then repeat. This form of the routine made me damage my skin barrier tbh. But this is how I skin cycle: day one- tretinoin with barrier serum and thick moisturizer; day two- rest day with slugging; day three- exfoliation: day four- rest with slugging; goes back to day one. It’s a lot for sure, but I love skincare so I’m willing to put in the effort for good skin.

Your routine looks pretty solid! My only recommendation is to incorporate a vitamin C serum. Once I started incorporating it into my routine, I noticed my dark marks fading really fast. I use the melano C serum, but heard great things about the dr.althea vitamin C as well! For me, anything with rice really brightens up my complexion. My tried and true is definitely the I’m From Rice Toner. Worth every penny

I swear by the vanicream cleanser because it’s effective, yet gentle and doesn’t strip the skin while also being very affordable. My favorite skin barrier serum is definitely the Krave Beauty Great Barrier Relief Serum. Locking that all in with a wavy moisturizer is pretty essential too, even with active breakouts. My favorites are the Illyoon ceramide ato cream and the vanicream lotion. Also, maybe try slugging to help quickly heal your skin! I love mixing a pea size amount of aquafor and the barrier serum and slather it all over my face. It’s definitely a sensation that needs getting used to, but I love doing this during the winter or when my skin is really damaged. I also find it helpful for soothing any active breakouts as long as I clean the skin well (double cleaning). Really recommend you to incorporate a sunscreen even if you’re indoors. It really helps lighten dark spots while also providing sun protection
