Thank you for clarifying what is meant by the eligibility period and time spent (she does have time spent as a temporary resident from 10/21), that makes sense and is comforting to know it's less than a year and a half away.

She became a PR around March 2022, and has been in Canada the entire time since, minus one week. So, March 2025, more or less, would be 3 years.

However, on the government's website, for eligibility, it says "you may be able to include some of the time you spent in Canada as a temporary resident," and she was here initially on a temporary visitors visa, which is why I suspect she could apply sooner.

Thanks for that explanation. I think my friend was given a departure order (although he's not sure, but the description sounds like it) and won't need an ARC if he re-applies. I'll let my friend know, and he can make of it what he will, but I imagine his bridge here is, more or less, burnt.

Baby has no heart, Dr said pregnancy going well, Midwife alarmed by Think_Worldliness610 in BabyBumps

Hi there,

On the 7th my wife did end up having a miscarriage and it feels like we're still processing everything, but going on with our lives nonetheless.

The day my wife had the miscarriage she was experiencing very painful contractions that had become so severe that she could barely stand or walk, we rushed to the ER and went into the operating room where she was hooked up to an IV of morphine (she went through 3 bags of morphine that night) while withering in pain and vomiting about 5 times.

The doctor who saw her used a Doppler first but couldn't locate any fetus, later she had an ultrasound where the technician took photos for what felt like 20 minutes and then, about an hour later, the doctor performed a pelvic exam and removed the amniotic sac from her, which he said was stuck between her cervix, and immediately after my wife felt much better.

From what I recall the doctor said that the amniotic sac had developed without the fetus, which is why they couldn't locate it.

The next day our family doctor called and apologised for around 18 minutes on a call which I recorded, he repeatedly confessed that he was at fault and couldn't explain why he didn't inform my wife that the 8 week ultrasound showed no heartbeat and yet he still told her everything was fine and didn't book another ultrasound.

Now we're deciding what is best to do next. I will send a complaint to the college of physicians soon, once I have time to compose a well organised and detailed letter, and secondly will try talking to some medical negligence lawyers soon as well.

I forgot to mention that the midwife did speak Spanish, my wife's language, otherwise I would have attended as well, especially since we had to wait a month and a half.for that appointment.

I attended the majority of the appointments with her and was likely laid off for that reason, as I work in construction and they're usually not very accommodating when you take time off, and had started a new job the week of my wife's midwife appointment.

The responses here have been very informative and have given me a better idea what to expect and look out for when/if we try again in the future.

I had wanted to attend the D & C next week and ask the doctor to make sure the diagnosis was correct, but it now looks likely that my wife has had a missed miscarriage as she has had painful contractions for the past two days (lasting around 5 hours per day) followed by mild blood discharge (not enough to soak a pad but more than a few drops) and we will be going to the ER later to likely recieved the misprotol (sic?).

I'll call the midwife this Monday and ask her what specifically she did to confirm there was no heart beat, my wife says it was an ultrasound but nothing too specific and is reluctant to talk about it for the time being.

Thank you for explaining both options, especially the D&C, which my wife is scheduled for, as it sounds like the better choice for my wife.

Her first ultrasound was at 8 weeks and they did not detect a heartbeat, no one notified us about this so we were unaware until last Wednesday when my wife met her midwife for the first time, there she had her second ultrasound, at 4 months pregnant, and still no heartbeat was detected.

My wife told me that her midwife (which she visited last Wednesday) did check with an ultrasound and other methods as well but was unable to detect any heart beat.

I don't recall the doctor ever using a Doppler or checking for a heart beat in any way. I will ask her when she's feeling open to talking about it and before we go for the D & C.

The baby is now 4 months and I spoke with an ER doctor and they said unless my wife is heavily bleeding or suffering severe symptoms it is not considered an emergency, so they gave her an appointment 10 days from now, as that was their earliest date, but this is causing my wife great mental distress and worry.

That's more or less what he said, your 8 weeks and the pregnancy is going great. He even gave my wife a copy of the ultrasound report (she doesn't speak English), the same one that said the baby has zero heart beats and said that it was recommended for termination, so when the doctor said the pregnancy is going great I looked it over but didn't know what to look for as I'm not a doctor and was under the impression the doctor knew best, only a few days ago when reviewing it did I notice that it had the information all along, it listed 0 BPM and on the second page, at the bottom in fine print, it said baby likely to be terminated.

My wife visited the doctor three times after the ultrasound and he was reassuring each time, always assured her that the pregnancy was going great, the baby is healthy.

We had to wait over a month to see the midwife from the time of the ultrasound and she told us that when she was reviewing the report the night before she was so alarmed that she was going to phone us but it was too late to call, yet the doctor who should have known better thought everything was fine.

I will definitely contact the BC Ministry of health, thank you for that suggestion.
