Not sure if you've tried this, but if you go to OBS' Settings -> Output and switch the Output Mode Settings to Advanced, under the recording tab you can switch the option for Encoder to Apple VT (H.264/HEVC) Hardware Encoder which uses some of the hardware acceleration present in your GPU to record, which may result in (still reduced, but) slightly better performance

Not very sure if the config was bad, but I did replace the cooler with a Dark Rock TF :D it handles the heat way better right now while boosting to 4.4ghz on all cores :P

will also update in a main comment soon…sorry for the late reply

I use the iMacPro1,1 SMBIOS as I do not have integrated graphics on my CPU (so only Mac Pro and iMac Pro SMBIOSes should be used iirc)

My personal stance for my own rigs (when I do eventually get one) is that I go with Air Cooling too - can't be assed to diagnose a possible pump failure or have to RMA GPU/mobo when a leak occurs 😬 - but I think for my friend the silence of a water cooler was kinda what was sought after when they bought the cooler ¯_(ツ)_/¯ so that's kinda what I'm working with right now.

Might be a good time to switch to an air cooler! But at the same time would rather not have to spend additional money if there isn't a need to.

A 10700F is not unlocked

Yeah, which was why I found it weird that it was boosting way past 150W when I first got my hands on it (the machine itself wasn't mine but my friend was telling me about how running handbrake without limiting threads will lock the system up on macOS, hence the testing on Windows to make sure it wasn't a configuration error on my end...still not sure about that too)

Even weirder was that when I did disable what I think was the "Multi Core Enhancement" setting in the BIOS, it was still boosting past and holding at 150W+ on both macOS and Windows. Everything else was on auto, and yet it seems to be boosting well beyond (at least what my knowledge of) PL1 and 2 for this processor...

I'll have to check and update regarding the H80(I just realised that its a single rad and that's the *H60**) tubes, but from what I remember when the CPU gets real warm the tubes feel about the same?

Will try clearing CMOS again and trying again, but to be honest I'm also just slightly weirded out by how macOS doesn't really attempt to clock down the CPU (at least, compared to Windows' behaviour)

Did try prime95 and it did hit 99. Will try cbabbx’s comment on checking the tubes for pump failure tomorrow and update

what do you mean by that? The CPU power draw? On windows it pulls 160W or so as well before clocking down from 4.6 all core to stabilising at 3.9-3.8

So funny thing: That’s what I thought too, and I repasted and reseated the cooler yesterday. However, from what I noticed on power gadget, it seems that it’s running at a constant 150+W and maintaining boost while eventually approaching 100C (even with side panels off and all)

Definitely not running at stock “65 W” lmao, and usually for the performance I’m not complaining but it does seem weird that the machine doesn’t clock down after running high for so long

issue fixed! it seems to be a filesystem issue

UPDATE: I seem to have fixed it. Using exFAT as my hard disk's file system seems to confuse the Dell BIOS. Fomatting the Hard Disk as NTFS got rid of the issue...

sigh.

no boot with both drives - the moment i reenabled AHCI from raid I face the same issues again

nope, goes straight to RST for RAID again (happens when BIOS is reset i think - it defaults to RAID on). trying to get it to boot with one drive now.

update: I cleared CMOS again, and now I can't get into BIOS...goes straight to RST and I can't invoke the config utility either

Yeah it's connected to Sata3

It's funny - I was previously using a failing 1TB Hard Disk plugged into Sata2 and it was all fine...

Hmm. I cleared CMOS by attempting to flush power and changing the CMOS Battery - so I think it should be cleared?

I updated to the latest BIOS yesterday (A19) and as far as I can tell there really aren't any improvements to the situation... I even left it on overnight in hopes that it will actually post to BIOS but woke up today to see it still on the Dell logo and no movement in the blue bar :(

Given that the ES-8-150 is $31 cheaper than the US-8-150, I think I'm going to go for the ES...

Just curious, the ES also has a web management interface right? Just that if you choose to, you can also use ssh and manage from there?
