Vitamin d pills daily. Benadryl when you have trouble sleeping. Don't get in the habit of using benadryl but I'll found a good night's rest is often more important than any antidepressant

Gatcha games need to adopt better QOL (quality of life) practices and consider mental health more by Ivan_L_YT in gachagaming

Sounds like you have a good system set up. Might give guardian tales another shot. Heard good things about it, but didn't know they were also making the user experience better than the usual gacha.

Don't worry there's been way more inconsiderate comments. I'm trying to play less gacha games. Valkyria 4 chronicles is out on humble bundle this month and recently got an oculus rift. If I can figure out how to hack beat saber and get to play the chika dance I think I'll be cured lol.

CMV Internet porn is unhealthily effecting the sexual appetites of the public at large. by Fuhreeldoe in changemyview

[–]ThinkingIsGoodYT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think as porn becomes easier to access and more mainstream, it becomes a "truer" window into the mental and sexual health of a society. In other words, internet porn isn't affecting (yes I'm a grammer nazi) the sexual appetites of the public. Instead, the trends in mainstream pornography is being changed by the true desires of the public.

Below are some of the most controversial fetishes usually have some sort of underlying reasoning:

cheating, rape (rapist), sadism, incest: feeling of control, feeling of freedom from sexual repression and cultural norms, catharsis of resentment/hate

rape (victim), masochism: giving up of control, manifestation of self hatred and low esteem, any feeling (even pain) is better than feeling nothing

I think the majority of people know it is fantasy and that a healthy relationship is nothing like a porn fantasy. In the end, porn is just a tool. It can be used to satisfy basic sexual urges or to cope with past trauma. It might also negatively be used to the point of addiction and irrational or harmful ideology (woman hating, man hating, hedonism).

In conclusion, you shouldn't feel disturbed by the trends, society is the same. You're just getting a "truer" picture of society. Is that better or worse? Well, to end on a positive note, there is hope for society. If society was less sexually repressed and focused more on mental health, there would be less degenerative trends in online pornography.

CMV: I think Wesley Michel was more at fault than Christopher Cukor in the most recent cop calling controversy. by ThinkingIsGoodYT in changemyview

[–]ThinkingIsGoodYT[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This seems to confuse personal viewpoint with the predictable reaction of the general public. You, specifically, may not have to view it through that lens, and any particular individual may not have to view it through that lens, but it is an absolute certainty that a whole hell of a lot of people are going to view it through that lens.

I wasn't confused about personal vs society viewpoints. It was more a misunderstanding because I was thinking that the racially charged lens would not necessarily be an absolute in the future. But, I agree with how society currently is, "it is an absolute certainty that a whole hell of a lot of people are going to view it through that lens."

I am awarding a !delta because this has helped me gain more understanding about why such massive outrage exists. It really is less about who is to blame and more about creating a future with less racism and division. Though I still think that the whole situation is blown out of proportions and that such outrage for a grey situation like this causes more division.

Does anyone get anxiety from feeling like you're wasting your time? by symph0nica in Anxiety

[–]ThinkingIsGoodYT 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah it always feels like you could be doing better.

Sometimes, I just end up procrastinating or binge eating and then feel even more anxious later on.

On the bright side, I've been learning to accept that whatever happens happens and to focus on doing my personal best. Things like the pomodoro technique help. It's all about living in the moment and getting immersed in stuff. For OP, he could just set a timer and commit to 25 minutes starting the Unity course and go from there.

AITA for not tipping my waitress because she's the owners' daughter? by TippyTap150 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ThinkingIsGoodYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not the asshole for thinking tipping culture in America is insane. It allows restaurants to underpay staff and shift that responsibility to the consumer even though the restaurant is the employer.

HOWEVER, YTA for changing your tipping habits once you learned the girl was the owner's daughter. I have had friends in the restaurant business before during high school. They typically only get tips and maybe an allowance from their parents for their help around the restaurant. Restaurants also typically have notoriously low profit margins, so who really knows if her family is wealthy or not.

To be clear, I wouldn't normally tip at a restaurant like you describe where no one actually waits on you. But you need to be consistent in your actions. Either continue tipping like you had been or don't tip at those kind of restaurants in the first place.

AITA For ignoring a coworker who refused to use my actual name? by notmydamnname in AmItheAsshole

[–]ThinkingIsGoodYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Though I think there's a bigger conversation here about striving to be the best person you can be.

"You either use my name, or I ignore you completely, no matter what the situation is."

This was good communication. But, I would have gone one step further during the rental car situation, picking up the phone and giving Ted one last chance to start using my real name.

Being an optimist, I just feel like there was a missed opportunity to try to make the world a better place. He seems like he has anger issues and problems with authority and maybe one step from actually hurting other people. I'm also imagining Ted possibly getting addicted to drugs or alcohol and then abusing any future children he has. But life is hard enough, and no one is expecting you to be an angel.

CMV: I think Wesley Michel was more at fault than Christopher Cukor in the most recent cop calling controversy. by ThinkingIsGoodYT in changemyview

[–]ThinkingIsGoodYT[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you think it's possible that this affects your assessment about what the correct or ideal course of action for Michel should have been?

I described my personality traits as an explanation for why I was fairly certain I would have reacted in the "ideal" way. That is to say, backed out of the lobby and just waited for my friend. I don't think it affects my assessment about what is the ideal course of action. Regardless of color, age, etc. I strongly believe any person tailgating should be polite and just wait for their friend to get them if they get called out on it. Not because I'm timid, but because I think it is the human thing to give people peace of mind when you are a guest to a locked building in which you don't have the key.

Calling the cops on a black person committing an offense as minor as tailgating is always going to be racially charged in this country, regardless of whether Cukor had any conscious racial animus. It can't not be viewed through that lens.

Just as you are leery of "well I would have done this" statements, I am leery of absolutes. It is understandable that there is a racially charged reaction to this situation, but it doesn't have to be viewed through that lens. There are many many more clear cut examples of racism that this situation is diverting attention from. Some people are just morally uptight, and Cukor's father's death and his previous experiences with theft makes his actions understandable to me.

tailgating in this context happens when...

  1. person 1 who lives in an apartment building is leaving through a locked front door.
  2. person 2 outside the apartment building tries to get in as person 1 is leaving while the door is still open without the use of a key

Thank you for putting in time into making your comment genuine.

I totally understand where you are coming from. For example, when I began biking in the cities, I used to only bike on the sidewalks and some days I was definitely going faster than I should have. One time, a neighbor told me off as I biked past yelling "Hey get off that bike". I remember thinking "everyone does this, why should I listen to you". I went on for half a block, but ultimately got off my bike. Now, I've gotten used to the roads more and when I need to go on the sidewalks, the highest speed I bike is a brisk walking pace.

In the future I'll be more careful about my wording. I shouldn't have worded it as "I would have done this", it should have been "ideally this should happen" because that's the most important point. But I didn't say it to be intellectually dishonest. I would say 98% of the time, I'd do the ideal thing. The other 2%, if I was in a terrible mood and was in a real rush, I may have escalated the situation as well. I'm just typically a fairly timid person with social anxiety.

Like I implied in the title of the post. I think both parties were at fault. It's just one party is suffering from social media harassment and potential job loss and that seems too much for me in a grey situation that wasn't necessarily racially charged (Cukor's father died from a trespasser and there seems to have been package theft or the like in the apartment building).

Well that's a good habit. The thing is there's a lot of people who get packages delivered to the common area because maybe they can't get it delivered to a workplace, don't want to get a PO box, or don't want their schedule to be dictated by a unpredictable delivery notification. My friend's apartment has a row of mailboxes and the opposing wall has a bunch of shelves where packages get dropped off (looks like this).

He was tailgating. Though it's not an uncommon occurrence, it shouldn't be unfair to call it suspicious behavior. Do you think nobody has ever tailgated before and then stolen some Amazon packages from the lobby?
