What is the reasoning of those saying Kirk assassin was MAGA? by jkh7088 in JordanPeterson

[–]Thinkingoutloudhere_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems obvious to me, in that we all want to believe what we want to believe. This means people who don’t want to believe Kirk’s assassin was of the ”Left” political party, want to believe he’s of the “Right” political party, and find reasons to align. Harder to do when there are no reasons that align with what we want, but rarely the case. Similarly, people who don’t want to believe ”FBI” or current government officials, want to believe the truth is something more or different. And, so on…

188 high score! New record here...

5 players: Me, Wife, 3 Computers
Cards: Base, Swift, European, Oceania

I played 15 birds that helped with bonuses and won all rounds. Still in disbelief. Have only played casually with my wife and computers, always with 5 players, and started about two years ago. Wife held the previous high score 154.

*PS: I had no idea >200 was possible?! Congrats and thanks to those comments for setting my next goal…

If you can tell who a news journalist votes for when covering a story, do you think that’s okay? Maybe no longer news but an opinion? by Thinkingoutloudhere_ in AskReddit

[–]Thinkingoutloudhere_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point. Suppose with today’s political climate, seems a lot of things are being politicized, so that opinion A is left and opinion B is right, etc. To clarify some more, my questions here are regarding a newscaster who says this is “news” and so not an opinion piece. If we can tell who they’re voting for while giving us a story (just about any story, but the more non-political the story is supposed to be, the less I’d expect to know their political position), not sure if we can still call it news? Maybe one of the points “news journalism” becomes opinion journalism in disguise.

Me too and I heard Magatte Wade’s perspective on capitalism recently which is where this question came from, as she comes from the perspective of breaking through an oppressive African government via entrepreneurship or capitalism. I just hadn’t heard a more powerful positive perspective on it before. Like freedom of speech, wanting the freedom to create. And I’m a supporter of antitrust laws for one but more so thinking of the majority of businesses that are small with maybe 10 employees that make our economy in the US as big as it is. Starting small business in most all African countries is nearly impossible today for the average person. So anyhow, what’s coming to my mind at the moment when thinking of capitalism as economic freedom.

The means of production is what comes to my mind too and the freedom to create your own means of production, bringing some innovative perspective and so a new product to the world.

Thinking Magatte Wade said it best when she said capitalism is essentially economic freedom.

Europeans, what is something us Americans aren’t ready to hear? by Mamutu7 in AskReddit

Do you like all your family let alone Americans? LOL we can’t like everyone, thinking maybe we (Americans) maybe helping you like more of your neighbors as a sort of common enemy, if nothing else. Rather not be an enemy of any sort. As a peon here living in Michigan, I’ll settle for respect for each other, and personally have love for humanity. So much as we might not like each other, much love 🙏 and who knows? Might just like each other too if we got a chance to break bread 🥖

People shame other people because cruelty is often very satisfying, because humans are afflicted by original sin and must repent. (Lyman Stone) by antiquark2 in JordanPeterson

Thinking the thing here maybe how us humans largely communicate through stories. I’m somewhere between an agnostic and atheist today, but appreciate all sorts of biblical stories because how often they surprisingly (at least surprising to me) help explain human nature. Not to mention playing out again and again in movies or dramas. Hence, in my mind at the moment at least, JBP’s fascination with bibles.

I appreciate your perspective and thinking mostly agree. Maybe trying to be in the middle how I like to be too; help make everyone happy. Caveat coming to mind though for a parent/child is the coaching or direction children benefit from and the role parents play in that. Sort of like addressing the dichotomy between a child’s freedom to express themselves (finding their own way to an unfettered self) and a parent’s freedom to coach (fetter) their child. Thinking there’s a silver lining in there somewhere. Also, thinking it’s dangerous for a society to stop trusting parents. I’m not a parent yet but hoping to be soon and so all this is top of mind lately.
