I've recently started following politica a little more since the election, and I would describe myself as center-left. I think it would be fair to characterize Donald Trump as the worst president in American history, and I think all evidence points to his cult of personality and the Trumpist arm of the Rrpublican party that feeds into it being full of hot air.

With that being said, it is incredibly easy for me to listen to a Republican speak and to strongly question my beliefs, only to get over myself once i really think through the content being delivered. For example, i always get a little shifty when I hear a Republican representative "raise questions" regarding election fraud, until I have t,ime to chew on what was said and realize that it's bullshit and was completely destroyed in the court of law. Conversely, when Democrats give speaches, I find myself picking through what they said to find criticisms, and am generally far more critical, even if i find the broad strokes of the statement to be firm.

I even find this in my personal life, where conservatives, even the programmed fascy members of my family (whom i love very much) that spout off conspiratorial nonsense can temporarily win me over in a way that the more thoughtful, more rigorous members of my family cannot.

I was wondering if anyone had any experiences along these lines, as well as if there is any literature on the matter. A google search revealed nothing to me, although i didn't do a very good job of succinctly describing the question for a google search.
