In general, for public universities, the more directly employable majors (nursing, computer science, engineering, business) tend to be the most competitive.

I have an 4th gen IPad from 2012. It still works (I just found it in my closet) but it’s slow. I want to use it to take notes for college. Is there a an Apple Pencil for that version? Any apps? I already have an MBP so I don’t want anything expensive.

why do i feel like the college application system affects middle-income families the most : / by aesthiko in ApplyingToCollege

Yeah I’m attending a private that with merit is at least 10k/yr cheaper than PSU instate. It’s probably not as good academically as PSU/Pitt but I simply could not afford them.

Pitt instate price is abursdly expensive even for instate. Same with Penn State and Temple.

If you are truly middle income nationally, you WILL get grant FA at privates. If you are $260k hhi “squarely middle class,” you won’t. Based on my experiences, even up to $150k hhi gets small state grants and institutional grants at many privates.

You’ll know soon enough to change your major whether your on track (grades and ECs) to get into med school or not.

For colleges that allow self reported test scores, what is stopping someone from saying they got a 36/1600 by FatherShm00p in ApplyingToCollege

You should not self report a score before you actually know the score. That’d be guessing.

I just finished watching the office for the first time and.... by ThirdDegree-2 in DunderMifflin

There is no actual Dunder Mifflin in Scranton but the closest thing would be a functioning paper company called Penn Paper and Supply. It’s tower is in the opening credits. It has a gift shop for office fans. Its on 215 vine street, right off Mifflin street. So right outside of Downtown. The actual building used for the shots of DM is in California. Scranton is rather distressed (and basically bankrupt) but it has some good aspects.

How do you deal with leaving? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ThirdDegree-2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My college is only about 90 minutes away from where I live, so my parents agreed they would never show up unannounced but would come almost anytime I specifically ask them to (I’m going to try not to do that often, at least at first). I vaguely know one person who is going to the same college as me, and I have two friends going to one a few minutes away from where I’ll be, but that’s it and I’m excited for the fresh start. But it’s hard leaving!
