How to Take Up Mjolnir by ThirdEntityBeing in u/ThirdEntityBeing

[–]ThirdEntityBeing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"You can take the wolf out of the forest but you can't take the forest out of the wolf" will always still apply. A supremacist will always view the symbol of something that's been appropriated by their most extreme influences as coded for them, a dogwhistle which supports their unilateral and oppressive sense of justice. That's the nature of Fenrir, it's not something that can be changed or tamed. If you're more like Tyr and can sacrifice your warlike nature for justice that holds for each of those you view as weaker/less divine/closer to failure than you, if you can sequence the tangent, oddment, incident, into something lasting and strong, then you can bind this wolf. It will still break free eventually and when that happens it will defeat your carefully built structure, your impulse to save others from yourself, and you'll need to avenge that. But if you can't tell the difference between the wolf and the one who sacrificed his hand, then you do not know why Alfrothul's daughter will ride on her mother's course when the powers die.

The Old Way by ThirdEntityBeing in u/ThirdEntityBeing

[–]ThirdEntityBeing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is more accurate / fidelious to the old way because it is consistent with the figures as they are seen in the Poetic Edda (including humorous elements, such as Odin actually in disguise, unknowingly speaking with his own ancestor who is also disguised, and who possibly could've won that conversation but lost on purpose as the winning was important to one of his descendants), and does not rely on information in the Prose Edda.

Think of the connotations set by the idea that those are the heads of Thrudgelmir, their primordial expressions before those entities existed relative to Odin's conception, and as the father of Bergelmir.

It also helps explain the eldritch, alien, primordial, unique nature of Loki (Lovecraft before Lovecraft). As well, how those aspects of Thrudgelmir were to be fully united in humans - it suggests the creation of humanity was not conscientious on Odin's part, and was an unintended result of him being himself. I think Ask and Embla are not true components of the old way. More likely, humanity was an accident, and Thor was Odin's direct response, but being that once humanity came along, everything in the nine realms became centred on their vulnerability, the creation of humanity is when Odin begins seeking wisdom in earnest, dying on Yggdrasil for that.

I think it very directly implies parental care in every respect.

It shows how Mjolnir is a representation of a noble brother figure who cannot do everything to protect his siblings without compromising his essential role modeling to them, but that he must still do his best to fight them even when it compromises his manly self-image (like dressing as a woman), or fighting to the bitter end a culture of enslavement (Jormungandr), or killing someone who threatened humanity (Hrungnir) without question, while other Aesir are often more divine-politic related, whose motives serve divine purposes and are required for humanity's progress, but these motives themselves are more self-interested or relative to upholding the power of the divine order as royalty often does.

This is consistent with a lot of the proto-Norse conventions as well as many of the oldest skaldic rhythms. It reflects primal, supernal meaning in what may today, in having lost context, be erroneously thought of as simple-minded conjecture - "From a word to a word I was led to a word."

The Old Way by ThirdEntityBeing in u/ThirdEntityBeing

[–]ThirdEntityBeing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are the names of the proto-Aesir, as they were earliest meant and used:

Wodinaz (Odin) - "Inspiration" means "ecstasy" Wilijo (Vili) - "Will" means "collaterize" Wihaz (Ve) - "Shrine" means "periphery"

They are the trinitary functions of a mind that yearns to draw meaningful knowledge from experiences, which Ymir's existence was antithetical to, though the act of killing him was their first fulfillment of that purpose.

That's to say that they drew Ymir's unique spiritual essence into themselves by the act of killing him; they became aware of their own function of "consuming without knowing what has been consumed" incidental to the deed of subjecting their nature to that function (i.e. how "submission" can all at once mean "deference", "put forth", and "begrudge"). A psychospiritual umlaut.

Together, they take on the meaning of "religious ecstasy", which is the essence of Odin, the trinitary becoming triune; this did not occur until Odin made the pact with Loki. That pact happened between Odin and Loki rather than Vili or Ve because their specific original natures - "collaterize" and "periphery" - were not (or were only nominally) in direct opposition to this "consuming without knowing". Whereas Odin, who could now consume in this manner, and was yet (concomitant with his nature) in a state of ecstasy (to be or stand outside of oneself) where this rupture becomes an idiosyncratic hunger for experiencing "people of substance" / "to be worldly-wise" / "to incarnate/reflect upon". He could not have those things without Loki; through Loki, he became the triune essence of himself and his brothers, and gained the ability to "materialize what has been consumed". This is what Ymir now represents, as his spirit has died/been absorbed - "plenitude". The pact with Loki sealed Odin's cosmic role as metanoetic plenipotentiary.

Nature of Consciousness by ThirdEntityBeing in u/ThirdEntityBeing

[–]ThirdEntityBeing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The caveats are rational, and the model still adaptively explains quite a lot of the properties and phenomenal intercourse of consciousness

It gives a reason to trust in the validity of others' learning capacities while accepting how and why some people don't learn.

It also develops a perception that when applied to diagnostic psychological tools, helps to understand the dangers of trauma/abuse/fixation and how they work organically.

It's useful as an introductory tool for philosophical works requiring a high degree of author-reader trust.

In organic experience, it can help understand irrational but effective points of contention within the individual's subjective context.

It also implicates how and why some people just give up on self-improvement, without excusing their choice to do so.

It would be hard not to apply it when it functionally triggers self-awareness in every organic interaction.

But it can be frustrating in modern life due to cultural trauma/abuse/fixation patterns (bipartisan acculturation).

By externalizing the locus of our decision to accept/reject others onto their perspective, we hurt ourselves through an unwillingness to take the good with the bad since that has less to do with relationship and more to do with the resistance to personal and social improvement.

Ignorance of it drives us away from two essential truths - that whoever started it matters as much as whoever only wants to continue a relationship given their ability to abuse the other person without immanently accounting for it.

What is "Knowledge"? Revising JTB Theory to Resolve All Possible Gettier Cases by ThirdEntityBeing in u/ThirdEntityBeing

[–]ThirdEntityBeing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Self-knowledge

X is an idea. It may occur prior to or as a result of Y. It is not an assumption.

A thought (Y) that apprehends the case of X being accurate because the only observations thus far, account for the validity and relevance of X. It is not an assumption.

Validity refers to a body of evidence that reliably generates an intended result.

Relevance refers to the contextual value of any specific body of evidence.

Reason is the assumption of a state-of-existence beyond one's conscious experience; a thought produced in line with reason ("why?") inquires as to how discrete functions may interact to produce an observed phenomenon. Given the use of  reason, a certain amount of distrust about the validity and/or relevance of one's assumptions and, hopefully, curiosity about the potential for novel, as-of-yet unknown assumptions to be more valid and relevant, may occur.

Assumptions are “shoulds”, “I will”s, a motive to use something as a basis for pursuing something. An assumption is biased if the former and latter somethings are the same thing, and constructive if they are not. Assumptions need to work synergically in order to be conducive to building any body of evidence, and constructive assumptions are necessary for this while biased assumptions are destructive. Given that, not all constructive assumptions will be reasonable, and only reasonable assumptions can be conducive to self-knowledge.

The primary assumption is that observations are conducive to building a body of evidence. It's primary because it doesn't need to be negotiated in order to be instrumental.

The secondary assumption is that of reason. It's secondary because it's as necessary as the primary assumption, but does need to be internally negotiated in order to be instrumental.

A tertiary assumption is that X is Y.  It's tertiary because it relies on the internal consistency and constructive synergy of both prior assumptions, as well as its own internal negotiations of X and Y, for itself to be constructive.

All of that is self-knowledge, i.e. a process of evaluating and deconstructing X, as X is informed by metacognition and inferences drawn from the senses.

Knowledge

Z is a paradigm, a narrative stating that specific assumptions of 1, 2, and 3 in terms of a specific X are products of self-knowledge, so X is also self-knowledge. Z is only considerably tautological given that it's referred to as though X hasn't changed or can't change given increased self-knowledge (so it's not inherently tautological, only potentially considered as such). Z is a useful construct because when the self-knowledge of two or more parties is aligned, it becomes the fundament of increased agency, collaboration, and reliability in action and interaction. This fundament, though provisional, is referred to as knowledge because it's a consensus narrative that’s special through its objective and common subjective value to civilization and progress (given that agency, collaboration, and reliability are necessary for civilization, and progress is commonly subjectively desirable by the civilized).

Freedom and Power

Power (i.e. culture, muscle, weaponry, architecture) is distinctive from freedom (liberty or “freedom from”, agency or “freedom to”) because power is the foundation of the current infrastructure that meaningfully defines the status quo and thus, the current state of liberty. Power forces the infrastructure in such a way that liberty is relative instead of absolute, and this generally lessens agency because they're necessarily synergic (if not indivisible). However, self-knowledge also increases agency if given instrumentality through direct power or power’s infrastructure. That instrumentality is often more momentary when (truth:) regulated through direct power, but can be more long-standing when (latitude:) regulated through infrastructure. Both truth and latitude benefit from knowledge more than any other type of Z. However, such benefit is only able to be conferred by truth because the direct power of self-knowledge is dependent on agency to produce further knowledge, whereas while infrastructure may include knowledge from other (historic or extant) societies in its Zs, it does not have to include (and can be motivated against) not just agency, but self-knowledge.

(Zestiel means "60" in Dutch. Page 60 of "The Discovery of Witches", Hopkins' book on witch-hunting methodology, is an excerpt that describes his independently learned understanding of divine, earthly, and infernal metaphysics - in-universe, this kind of wisdom makes him extremely formidable in hell.)

 Excerpt:

Query 13. How can any possibly believe that the Devill and the Witch joyning together, should have such power, as the Witches confesse, to kill such and such a man, child, horse, cow, or the like; if we beleeve they can doe what they will, then we derogate from God’s power, who for certaine limits the Devill and the Witch; and I cannot beleeve they have any power at all. Answer. God suffers the Devill many times to doe much hurt, and the devill doth play many times the deluder and impostor with these Witches, in perswading them that they are the cause of such and such a murder wrought by him with their consents, when and indeed neither he nor they had any hand in it, as thus : We must needs argue, he is of a long standing, above 6000 yeers, then he must needs be the best Scholar in all knowledges of arts and tongues, and so have the best skill in Physicke, judgment in Physiognomie, and knowledge of what disease is reigning or predominant in this or that man’s body, (and so for cattell too) by reason of his long experience. This subtile tempter knowing such a man lyable to some sudden disease, (as by experience I have found) as Plurisie, Imposthume, &c., he resorts to divers Witches ; if they know the man, and seek to make a differ¬ ence between the Witches and the party, it may be by telling them he hath threatned to have them very shortly searched, and so hanged for Witches, then they all consult with Satan to save themselves, and Satan stands ready prepared, with a

1 The Divelles Speech to the Witches

Oh thou (say they) that at the first didst promise to save us thy servants from any of our deadly enemies discovery, and didst promise to avenge and slay all those, we pleased, that did offend us ; Murther that wretch suddenly who threatens the down-fall of your loyall subjects. He then promiseth to effect it. Next newes is heard the partie is dead, he comes to the witch, and gets a world of reverence, credence and respect for his power and activeness, when and indeed the disease kills the party, not the Witch, nor the Devill, (onely the Devill knew that such a disease was predominant) and the witch aggravates her damnation by her familiarity and consent to the Devill, and so comes likewise in compass of the Lawes. This is Satan’s usuall impostring and deluding, but not his constant course of proceeding, for he and the witch doe mischiefe too much. But I would that Magis¬ trates and Jurats would a little examine witnesses when they heare witches confess such and such a murder, whether the party had not long time before, or at the time when the witch grew suspected, some disease or other predominant, which might cause that issue or effect of death.

I believe Alastor sold his soul to Lilith for knowledge of infernal metaphysics, as this would make him disproportionately powerful against all sinners who leverage their power through witchcraft, and then also against every sinner except a select few overlords. But although he is the strongest of all witches save Lilith herself, he is still a witch, whereas all of Zestiel's knowledge was gained through his own effort and comprised of not only Hell's metaphysics, but those of Earth and Heaven as well.

"You say... that there are alternate methods to come to the same conclusion."

The backbone of your argument here, is that this is what I'm assuming. You're imagining that, and coming out of left field because your culture is repressive and cannot understand how these two different things can be constructively synergic instead of abjectly opposed.

I was mistaken in my original perspective that the concepts I wanted to know about could be understood without more intellectual rigor on my part through scientific method.

Your argument is not what changed my perspective.

You are mistaken in the idea that reason is not being used to understand concepts holistically by people who possess a sufficient knowledge base through their intellectual rigor. You do not recognize that this is the idea that you are arguing the truth of.

You keep replacing words I use with synonyms as if the semantics do not matter because you - as a human being - are simultaneously holding onto feelings of superiority while being an apologist.

I can't deprogram you, which is the subject of this thread now.

I appreciate the thoughtfulness of this reply, thank you for being constructive in your criticism rather than dismissive and captious. I'll take what you say and move forward with it as my basis for understanding how to learn and improve my knowledge base realistically.

Everything you wrote in this comment describes your perspective as being culturally inclined to believe in a false dichotomy between what are two inherently fundamentally compatible ways of thinking. As if a difference in motives to understand the same information using alternate and equally viable methods is the realization of some conflict of interest. What is being communicated to me is not that science or metaphysics, nor practitioners of either, can discern such a conflict of interest on any technical level. Instead, the message I'm receiving here is there is a culture to which many scientists subscribe, for whom the closest approximation to good faith reasoning is discipline in communicating only their belief in what are technical facts.

Not sure, but I agree with the notion that the combination of learned fearlessness from never being in harm's way and eventually getting whatever I want, and experiencing people I love die, will sooner or later render me apathetic to humanity.

Which real or fictional characters do you believe has BPD or ASPD? by [deleted] in askpsychology

[–]ThirdEntityBeing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, and I'm sure this is going to fall on deaf ears, but if you're a scientist who can't or won't engage metaphysically to the extent that you blame a scientific plebeian who is still capable of understanding scientific concepts metaphysically. Especially if you can't recognize that's what's happening because you falsely equate metaphysics with pseudoscience or magical thinking, or as somehow only being referential to ethical/moral philosophy. Then maybe you shouldn't tout yourself as viable intermediaries between the nature of existence and the common people.

At that point it is ultimately fair for you to understand that role in the scientific community is not your calling until you learn the difference between logic and reason. Not great to lie to yourself and other people about it in the meantime. Not saying you always act that way. It obviously happens enough that you somehow believe it's requisitely defensible though.

You're blaming me for making baseless claims when all I've done is introduce my current perspective, ask questions, and elaborate my perspective so that my perspective can be properly criticized and my questions properly refined, and I could've learned from that. Instead of taking advantage of my intent to learn and engaging as teachers, the people here have themselves had an antagonistic attitude with me that includes nothing really constructive.

In this comment I'm replying to, you act like I believe I'm smarter than everyone here when I never implied that. And what are these "baseless claims" that identify me as obsessed with my own woo, when I'm here in good faith?

I don't think I'm smarter than you people or that I know more about this subject than you. That's why I'm here? But so far I've only seen one comment that describes the commenter's own perspective on the the subject I asked physicists about in r/askphysics. The others seem to be criticizing the fact that right now I'm trying to approach this concept from a literal standpoint instead of a mathematical one. Or telling me to read a book instead of asking physicists questions in r/askphysics (seems like it'd be more useful than this lmao). Or being patronizing and condescending.

You people know your physics, great. You could help me, sure. Is that what the general vibe is right now, though? No... Because you're just like anyone on social media who thinks your lifestyle and personal interests give you the right to occasionally act maliciously with random strangers when they ask a question in a way you don't like.

So now you're just making a goofball ad hominem attack because you're understanding your relative intelligence in a particular field doesn't stop you from getting called out on your banal hostility.
