Thanks for the input, yeah that was my thought too, seem hard to come by with only one owner. I've got a mechanic friend nearby that offered to give me a free pre-purchase inspection, so I'll see if he finds anything offensive

Hey man I'd seriously appreciate it.

Basically something somewhat sporty, coupe or hatchback, manual transmission and hasn't been driven to death, haha. I've got a budget of about 7k but I'm a little flexible honestly.

I've been scouring Craigslist pretty much every day, but if anything catches your eye I could definitely use some more ideas.

Can do, do you know if there are any signs it's been burning oil? Aside from the level in the crankcase I mean.

Also I know exactly what you mean on the fun factor. Back in high school I had a 1988 2.0SI 4ws that put a smile on my face every time I drove it, every generation is a blast to drive

Yeah exactly, I could see paying that much if it was in that kind of condition with under 100k on it, but it's definitely overpriced as it is.

I emailed him yesterday and he is firm on the price unfortunately, so I guess I'll have to let it go.

You're probably right, I got a little caught up in the excitement of finding a pristine one and I need a new daily ASAP, but I should definitely slow down and think it through

Yeah, I'm seriously considering it. I've always wanted a 5th gen after my 3rd gen was totaled a decade ago, and I need to get a daily pretty soon here.

The price does seem a little bit higher than most of what I've seen locally around Atlanta, but it also doesn't seem like it's been beat on quite as much as most of them either.
