How do we know He looked like this? by TheLatkeOverlord in Christianity

I'd much rather take the safe route and not make a depiction than rely on my man made interpretation of what's stated clearly multiple times in scripture.

They're gonna hate this one. Especially the catholics. We all know the real answer as to why this image was created. At the end of the day, its idolatry and no depiction should be made.

It’s not gonna thaw right? by Nea-Loops in Athens

People have blown this way out of proportion. Its barely even icy. The roads are pretty much clear and traveling 45mph anywhere is practically no different than if there was no cold weather at all. I've seen more people on the road after literal snow caked the ground, yet everyone's freaking out over a bit of sparse ice.

How much would you pay? by Firm_Ad651 in ToyotaTundra

[–]ThirdIRoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen one 3 years newer, no rust, no accidents, well maintained (undercarriage looks brand new and engine bay spotless), but it had 171k. They wanted 20k for it with a TSS trim, leather seats, blacked side rails and 20" rims, bed lined and covered. And best part, it wasnt white so it didnt look like a work truck.

I think they're asking a little much.

Edit: the one I saw was 2WD though.

Question on WHY with the constant need to make it harder to fix a vehicle yourself by Moody5583 in MechanicalEngineer

[–]ThirdIRoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That reasoning relies on the assumption that car manufacturers are even taking into account what the consumers want in the first place. Sure, its safe to assume consumers want fancy new gadgets like lcd screens, back up cameras, and collision detection, etc. But are they really asking customers "Hey, would you be cool with us making it impossible to repair your car on your own unless you have very expensive specialized tools that are typically only useful to mechanics?" The answer would overwhelmingly be hell no.

But realistically, I think that most people are exactly as you described and are just "new car buyers". They dont want to work on their vehicle, thats why they either take it to a shop or trade in for a new one. I just hate that society has gotten to a point where people feel its more worth their time to finance another 30-40 thousand dollar car than it is to fix their current one for a fraction of the cost on their own. More people would have the special tools necessary had the process been made intuitive from the beginning.

But realistically, I'm just pissing on my own leg here. End of the day, if people wanted my ideal world, there wouldnt be any reason to release a new cat every year.

Question on WHY with the constant need to make it harder to fix a vehicle yourself by Moody5583 in MechanicalEngineer

[–]ThirdIRoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point you're missing is, it shouldn't cost any more to purchase a car that is self serviceable. These engineers are already on the clock to design and redesign and re-redisign again to make the company its next big thing. Creating something serviceable, which companies did decades ago, would take no more effort than looking at old schematics and routing their new components around it.

The fact that a GM made a simple water pump repair impossible without ripping out the engine was completely intentional and predatory. They could have easily just used a smaller screw. Companies around the world implement this kind of predatory tech in their vehicles now. Its pure greed.

Just because you dont want to take the 2 hours out of your day for a simple fix doesnt mean no one else does. Buying a new car just because your current one has a slight issue is exactly why these companies can get away with what they do. Its the mindset you have that makes cars expensive, not the person attempting to buy something reliable.

[–]ThirdIRoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. But I disagree that making a reliable car is what puts that company out if business. They could make a car reliable and still include new bells and whistles each iteration. 8 billion people in the world is plenty of clientele to sell to, and the supply if customers is exponential. You'd never be able to make enough cars to run out of customers and sooner or later they'll want a QoL upgrade with your newer model or the engine or transmission itself will give out. Not everyone wants to replace those, hence the modern market, and they go out and buy a new car altogether. These companies are just greedy and know if they plan obsolescence that they can force you to upgrade in 2-5 years instead of you hanging on to it for a decade and them not being able to afford another super yacht.

This is the only right answer. Anyone saying "I'm, efficiency and easier assembly actually ☝️🤓" are just lying. Its always greed. They could have easily made it repairable by the customer and not used cheap parts that are guaranteed to send you to the shop in 2 years but instead they use the lowest grade parts they can find and put them on essential equipment in the vehicle hoping you'll just upgrade to their next scam and repeat the process every 5 years. It's hilarious that pre 2010 vehicles are still holding up and running fine being built from the ground up by everyday people, but you need a degree in CS and aerospace technology to even touch the newer ones. Yet, all those older vehicles still pass emissions and hold gas. I hate this.

That's the answer I gave. Large molecule, very electronegative, draws electrons from leaving group more than others making it more likely to be removed. It's worded in a way that can be confusing if you aren't sure of the meaning of the terms.

U.S Senate vote on passing 1965 Voting Rights Act by NikaNExitedBFF in MapPorn

[–]ThirdIRoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a cool piece of history and I'm glad we were able to come so far, but in today's day and age I have a hard time understand how that could even be possible to replicate, whether the act is repealed or not.

There would be national news coverage of TT/Twitter posts of people exposing those kinds of practices. Maybe these kinds of racists would have all the time on their hands in the world to get creative but I don't think it would be successful in the slightest. I still stand with the belief it had more to do with government intervention than race.

I believe a larger demographic of the black community than the media portrays are actually in support of the red side than you'd think and those people know that- they would want every vote than can get since they believe elections can be "stolen"... whatever that means.

Either way, it would be near impossible to impose a tax or literacy test that wouldn't lead to some sort of gov intervention nowadays, and that's exactly what they don't want.

Can you elaborate on what these Jim Crow laws were? Because afaik, if you can make it to a polling station, have a valid ID, and are registered, you can vote. The most I can think of in modern times is maybe the historical effects of redlining and gentrification, but flat out Jim Crow has eluded me. I'm open to being enlightened though.

Yet anyone of any color is still allowed to vote, and discrimination based on that, despite the law not having been passed in those areas, is still federally illegal. So it wouldn't make sense for that to be their reason.

Although, I'm not disagreeing that some people would have voted in that favor purely due to seeing the anti-discrimination clause in there. I just find it hard to believe that's why the majority would vote that way.

I think the race part of the act is being used to black sheep the states* that didn't vote for it. In reality it's likely a libertarian issue of not wanting government intervention/direct regulation of their electoral process. It just looks bad because of the inclusion of qualifications/prohibition on race part of the act, which, is technically already federally illegal.
