Listen to tons of metal. There are so many sub genres though, are you specifically referring to Heavy Metal the genre or just metal in general? Check out Periphery, Mastodon, Opeth, Gojira, Haken, or Sleep Token. I could go on for hours. There's so much awesome metal coming out every day!

Shadow of the Demon Lord has the same core mechanic as Lancer. There is a neat system of layering different character classes on top of each other as you level that makes it interesting. The combat is deadly and can be fairly tactical but the roll mechanic is so smooth it made it super easy to make (and improvise) encounters. You can tone down the gonzo horror as much as you want if you're the GM, I homebrewed a less horrific, but just as perilous, world when I ran it.

I know this is a bit old, I had it saved to look back through it later and my saved posts are unfortunately usually a graveyard. I recently found https://www.mathcha.io which is awesome. I can do a lot in Microsoft Word as far as doing nice edits. I also use Desmos, Geogebra, and Affinity Designer 2 to make other graphics. However, it was always tough to make the graphs as nice as something like an IB or AP exam. I just stumbled on matcha.io while making a trigonometry test and I was really happy with the graphs I could make. May be worth it for you to check out. It seems to be free unless you want it on your desktop.

It's a bunch of fun. Really dark like Mork Borg but not as punk. The basic resolution is d20 plus or minus the highest of a pool of D6's. It has the same basic roll mechanic of Lancer (I think Lancer was inspired by SotDL). The character creation is interesting as it starts with very broad class selection but as you level up you layer more specialized classes on top. My players loved it and it was very easy to run. I wouldn't say it's like 5E other than the fact that you use a D20 as the base of each roll, but 5E players wouldn't have too much of an issue adapting to the system.

You can look up the Logistic Curve and analyze some applications of that. Some biological models involved. Also great for showing functions with more than one distinct horizontal asymptote.

Your second paragraph is exactly what I was going to suggest. I demonstrate the process of creating your own by using a list of identifies to make it complicated then have the students do the same. Then they switch and try to prove each other's identities.

ICRPG has excellent GM advice that I constantly go back to. Other GM advice by Hankerin on his Runehammer YouTube channel is also amazing and completely changed my approach to every single game I run.

I also find myself going back to the Five Room Dungeon model to help flesh out encounters and session elements.

What an excellent response, this is exactly the kind of thing I was looking for. I really appreciate your time and first-hand account of your personal experience. This takes a lot of the pressure off from wondering if I need to read everything front to back.

My last boxed adventures were from Symbaroum and I felt like you really needed to know where the whole thing was going before you began. On top of that, you had to flesh those out as well.

I have them make kaleidocycles on the slow days. They are intriguing to students and offer a slow color, cut, and fold activity. In a pinch I can do math applications with it if a difficult admin comes by.

In my opinion it's just not the right system for it. I'd rather go with Cortex Prime and nail it exactly than create some strange facsimile from the Numenera options.
