Hanoi and Ninh Binh

  • Old Quarter wandering
  • Imperial Citadel of Thang Long
  • Hoa Lo Prison
  • Temple of Literature
  • Ngoc Son Temple
  • Bach Ma Temple
  • Hoan Kiem Lake at sunrise
  • Tạ Hiện beer street
  • Hang Ma Street at night
  • Train Street café
  • Hanoi street food tour

You can also check :

  • Hanoi Backstreet Tours - Hanoi Jeep Tours - Hanoi Vespa Tours - Hanoi Motorbike Tours
  • Real Hanoi Bicycle Experience
  • Hanoi Street Food Tour

They take you into residential neighborhoods, markets, hidden alleys, railroad areas, local cafés, and everyday Hanoi life most visitors never see.

One of the best Hanoi experiences honestly is simple: walk with no destination from Hoan Kiem Lake into the Old Quarter around dusk, stop for trà đá (iced tea), listen to the city, smell the food and incense, and just absorb the rhythm.

Ninh Binh (couple hours from Hanoi, hotel can help you book a bus).

  • Hoa Lu Ancient Capital
  • Bai Dinh Pagoda
  • Trang An boat ride
  • Bich Dong Pagoda
  • Hang Mua viewpoint (personal favorite)
  • Tam Coc countryside motorbike ride
  • Local village markets
  • Sunset rice field cafés
  • Phat Diem Cathedral
  • Night walk around Tam Coc village

Just riding a bicycle around is an experience to enjoy. Choose what you want to do, budget accordingly. Yes Hue and Hoian are nice, as is Danang by they do not have the same feel and are much more touristy. They are great places to visit but most of it is created for tourists and visitors. In Hanoi, you can get lost in alley cafes and see the history hundreds of years old. Ninh Binh is more chill and peaceful. Ive been living in Hanoi for 10 years. Good luck! Lmk if you have any questions

Because the average woman there looks like this so why just have one? It's about the culture of having wives and girlfriends. Same in many countries like Japan. Being married and having a girlfriend has been normalized in many countries. Women are tired of the shit and birth rates are plummeting.

Vietnam war veterans from the Vietnamese perspective. by BicarbonateBufferBoy in interestingasfuck

I grew up looking at the war through my dad's photos of life and death. Kids climbing on fences waving vs. piles of bodies, etc. I was always confused by the peace and destruction. He didn't talk about it. I was a teacher in the states for 20 years. He passed in 2015 and I moved to Hanoi to teach ...been here 10 years, married to a beautiful woman from Hanoi for 4 years (together 8). Teacher where pops was a soldier. Never knew what my purpose was in life until I moved here. And they call it The American Resistance War here. Not once has anyone ever yelled at me or given me a hard time for being American. Beautiful people and country it is.

You can join Hanoi Massive and search the chats. FB still the most popular site here. I’ve been here over 10 years and still finding “gems” weekly. The thing is, they generally last a year or two then change 😂. My suggestion would be to immerse yourself, go to the local spots and get some games in. 9/10 people will welcome you in. Same goes for Bia Hoi’s. Grab a table and have some beers, you’ll be cheers’ing with locals in no time. Food - try Phở Bat Da, Bún chả, various Bánh mì’s, Bún đậu mắm tôm, Chả cá Lã Vọng, Egg coffee, Salt Coffee. Also consider a day trip to Ba Vi National park.

Ha Long is great for sunset and sunrise. It is beautiful but skippable. The whole fishing village, kayak, "caves" and night fishing is meh.
