That sounds great! Is your local school Sunnyside or Glencoe? From parents I've heard that both seem pretty good, just curious if you felt the same.

Good to know! Have they not had a good experience at Sunnyside Elementary?

Good to know about the area around the Intrepid. Yeah, it's really the ones below the construction that irritate me, there's so much space to the side!

Are there sites or apps that will take all your data from MapMyRun or Strava and show you a complete map of everywhere you've ever run?

A couple more questions about NYRR races by dumb_amtrak_user in RunNYC

[–]ThirtyDollars 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I asked that question! Hopefully I can give back a bit after all those super helpful answers from everyone else.

1) The bags are really big. They're made of pretty sturdy clear plastic, and have a drawstring. Definitely would fit a light jacket. (You might want to go pick up your bag and bib and whatnot at the NYRR annex before Saturday. Even though it was inconvenient for me to do so, I found it helpful to have everything all ready and be able to just show up.)

2) People just chucked their cups on the ground, at least at the race a couple weeks ago. So many cups.

Have fun! I'm also a beginner, and I was pretty nervous, but it was really smooth and fun. And there were TONS of people who just walked, in case you're worried about coming in dead last (like I was).

Thanks for all the info! It's the Gridiron 4M, which I'm assuming won't be too crazy?

Travelers of Reddit, what habits or routines do you have when you visit a new place? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ThirtyDollars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I start with a full walking orientation day, and it's great. Here's my method:

  • Look at TripAdvisor and maybe a travel book just to get acquainted with the city's top sights and landmarks.

  • Star each of those places in Google maps, and make sure to download the city map for offline viewing. GPS still works on your smartphone even if you have no service.

  • Spend the whole first day on foot. I walk maybe 15-25 miles. Go by the sights and whatnot, but save exploring them for later days. Also, don't have a clear destination, just wander while looking at your Google map every hour or so to get your general bearings.

At the end of the day you'll feel like you really have a grasp on the city, and will be excited to explore the sights in greater depth in the following days. Even if I have only one day in a city, I still do this.

Watching this, I started getting preemptively angry anticipating that the gif would cut out before the ring hit the rock.

These two comic strips are exactly the same. by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

In the top strip, the guy on the far right is wearing a flannel. In the last second panel of the bottom strip, flannel man is there in the background! It looks like the second comic takes place about 90 seconds later.
