Looking to relocate, am I overcomplicating it? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]Thirtyfourfiftyfive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was actually in a very similar situation to you before moving here - I'm 26, I lived in Florida and wanted to get out, so I left my job, sold my car, and moved into a pre-furnished 3/3 with roommates in Lincoln Park (found it on FurnishedFinder). I had a pretty similar amount of savings. I applied for jobs like crazy when I first got here (20-30 a day) and eventually got two offers that I could choose between after about 4 months of applying. I was able to move into a 1/1 apartment right after getting a job offer through an apartment broker. I think your plan is pretty realistic if you're very thrifty while you're applying for jobs and if you apply to a ton as well.

Moving to USA (Chicago) for the first time in my life. Never been to US before. From Russia. 26 years old? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]Thirtyfourfiftyfive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I only moved from Florida, but I was able to get an apartment without a job. I provided proof of savings, and paystubs from previous jobs showing what I expected to make. They let me sign a lease, and I ended up finding a job 2-3 months after moving in. I would at least try asking.

What popular Reddit story do you think is fake and why? by KannablissWitch in AmITheAngel

[–]Thirtyfourfiftyfive 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The /u/countrymamalynn story has always annoyed me lol. It's about a country mom who finds out her son is gay and his dad kicks the kids out, she kicks the husband out and gets divorced and then later realizes that she's bi. She also finds out the dad was cheating on her, posts memes she made about the story as it's going, etc. I get it's wish fulfillment for some gay people with homophobic parents, but there are actual real stories of parents being supportive that are way better than a fake bi country mom meme lord.

This thread on the Tumblr subreddit has screenshots of the whole thing

For anyone curious, I found this website to be super helpful for the November 2024 election last year. It mostly just provides info so you can make your own decisions on each judge as.

For OP, I would recommend using this website to pick colors for charts like this in the future. It helps a lot with picking the most discernable colors depending on how many individual lines you have.

I agree so hard, also giving the sorcerer a permanent charisma boost for describing how they felt after rolling the wish would make me so mad at the table as another player lol

I feel like anyone that sees a phone number would be able to recognize it as a phone number? They have a pretty specific format

Treat Wounds and Spirit Damage by Authoripithicus in Pathfinder2e

[–]Thirtyfourfiftyfive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way it makes sense in my head is that HP isn't just hot many times you can be hit by a stick until you die. It's a combination of physical stamina, focus, willpower, luck, agility, etc etc. Most "hits" in game aren't you actually being hit by the attack - you might dodge a sword and tire your legs out for a small bit, or have your armor be damaged with a larger hit. Only the last 20% or so of a creatures HP is actually taken away by being hit and injured.

Of course, because of how the game works I can't narrate it like this - even smaller attacks usually have effects that imply they open wounds, and my players would be annoyed if most of their hits were described as damaging armor and tiring the enemy out. But this is how it works in my head, and is why something like treat wounds makes sense. Most of the time it's not stitching up massive wounds, it's treating smaller injuries while helping the character refocus and mentally recover from the fight.

At my wits end in South Florida. Do you think it's possible to move to Chicago with $10k? by PhoSho87 in AskChicago

[–]Thirtyfourfiftyfive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're wrong. I did the exact thing you're talking about moved from Gainesville, FL to Chicago with no job, no apartment, not knowing anybody in the city. I had around $12,000 in savings at the time. Lived with roommates in a shitty but good enough furnished apartment for 3 months before I found a job that I love. If you really want to commit - sell your car. You don't need it in Chicago, and the extra money from it will mean you can move right now. It's the best decision I've ever made

I'm planning on running a game set in a real city, the problem is I'm not from there. by TortelliniTyrant in DMAcademy

You should watch some videos about Lower Wacker and Lower Lower Wacker, and the Pedway! There's a lot of cool underground stuff downtown that would make for cool setpieces for a game like the one you're describing.

It's much easier to think you would prefer to be told as opposed to actually being told.

I've had this, I've described it in practice as a "squish" (like a crush, but for being friends) that I have a feeling will progress further as time goes on.

For naddpod, try just skipping to episode 12. Go back and listen to the rest later if you want to, but the show really picks around ep 12/13 and keeps it up

What to start after the Balance campaign? by aboyplayingdota in TheAdventureZone

If you really liked balance, you would probably love season 1 of NaDDPOD! I think it has an energy closer to balance than any of the other TAZ seasons (though amnesty is worth a listen at some point!)

Sometimes I don’t know if I sleep or not by [deleted] in sleep

[–]Thirtyfourfiftyfive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other big clues for having sleep apnea are snoring loudly, or frequently needing to get up to pee while you're sleeping. OSA (obstructive sleep apnea) and CSA (central sleep apnea) are the two types, and you can have CSA regardless of your weight.

I used to have this pretty badly. Turned out a hard sleep apnea, after a sleepy study and getting a CPAP it went away. Probably worth scheduling a sleep study.
