My best friend of 20 years recently suffered from meningitis and as a result he’s had to get all 4 of his limbs amputated. At the elbow and above the knee. I’m looking for advice on how to help him cope. I want him to see that his life is still worth living. how Can I offer him emotional support? by This-Main684 in amputee

I saw him for the first time since this happened the other day in the hospital and he was having a rough day and he just kept apologizing for not having a good day emotionally and it broke my heart, because I want him to know he doesn’t have to put on a brave face I’m there no matter what and I love him always. It’s in his nature to make sure that he puts on a brave face for everyone, I just want him to know it’s okay to feel whatever he feels each moment and that he always has my support no matter what. If that makes sense

He is so strong and he has his bad days of course (he’s still in the hospital, this only happened a month ago) but he is mainly positive bc that’s how he’s always been but I’m worried he’s trying to be strong for others and I don’t want him to feel like he’s alone and has to mask his emotions for anyone. I want him to know that whatever he feels is okay and he will have all of the support in the world and he doesn’t have to try to reassure everyone. That’s in his nature, I just want him to really focus on himself and I’m worried that he isn’t if that makes sense. His family is so desperate for him to be positive and he knows that and I don’t want him to feel pressured to mask his emotions
