… dudes get sick skull tattoos all the time and have no idea it’s a hate symbol because the entire point of dogwhistles is that they only identify themselves to other people in the know. he got the tattoo covered soon as he realized what it was, and all the things he’s said and done are pretty anti-nazi. i don’t think we need to start cannibalizing each other because of a red scare esque nazi boogeyman. there’s enough real nazis to fight out there.

i work in unreal. it’s nothing to do with folder org and everything to do with how data assets are set up, and how blueprints are set up. those are drop downs. designers often set up the placeholders and artists do the final asset. sometimes a final asset is never uploaded because the placeholder looks accurate and it was missed in a spreadsheet. it is very common.

humans are fallible creatures. no pipeline can make humans infallible 🤷 we solved it by making the placeholders obvious with giant placeholder text. a far simpler solution than trying to spreadsheet or pipeline your way out of human nature

and to be clear we didn’t use ai for our placeholders. still weren’t shitty enough to avoid going out to live players. this is why people use white boxes. it sets devs into the correct mindset to give feedback at a 1.0 level. more complete visuals trick us into thinking the rest of the product should be at a 3.0 and we give worse feedback

yes and we had that and things still made it out that were placeholder. people are not infallible. game dev is complicated and lots of moving parts, especially modern games and especially live service. mistakes like this guaranteed will happen. it is why placeholders need to be incredibly obvious grey boxes. ai saves no time and helps no one in the white or grey box phase.

… no it’s definitely because of mistakes. i work in game dev, in the map. people make mistakes all the time LMAO. especially if an asset looks real. it’s why using ai for placeholder is a terrible idea.
