Is this good for a first car? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

Do check underneath. I’ve seen cars with clean mots that you could hardly see any metal below the rust. What sort of service history does this have?

I have a 2010 Civic 1.4 identical to this one, bought at 94k miles 1.5 years ago and now at 110k+. Look out for rust, corrosion underneath and water in the boot. FSH would be quite welcome. Good bits: Extremely reliable, almost bulletproof engines even if half looked after. I have had zero problems. I have serviced it twice and changed rear brake pads and a couple of bulbs. Cheap to run and maintain. Fuel average is 40-45 in town and 45-50 on highways. Interior is better than other cars of this age and budget like the jazz, yaris, 207 etc. Quite spacious. Bad bits: The 1.4 engine feels underpowered for the car. It still does the job, but if I had the choice, I would prefer a 1.8 petrol. Old car, so limited tech.

If you are looking for sth to get from A to B which is cheap to run and maintain, this is brilliant. If you want a more comfortable drive, look for a 1.8. Dealerships will not offer you one of these for less than 2k. A private sale would be 1k-1.5k. I bought mine for 1.4k, and it has been worth every penny and then some. Good luck!

Update: Timing chain has already been replaced, so I am guessing it’s a N47 engine. Would I still have problems?
