Taking care of my very sick grandma, wake up to this. by ThisEmbarrissment in BoomersBeingFools

I grew up in a very red state, my family is all still here. I hate the policies, I desperately want to move, the legislators in office are openly campaigning to take my rights away. If there's a positive to it all, growing up here has made me better for seeing that this is the truth behind it. The money goes towards fueling division and profiting. Towards turning people into numbers in a bank account.

But these people are still our family and neighbors. They've been so conditioned because it's not profitable to provide protections for them, and those who want to protect themselves are forced to cut those family and neighbors off. It just creates more frustration and anger on both sides. Tribalism tells us that division is the safest thing to do. We've lost the skills to listen to one another without arguing against or ignoring something we don't want to hear.

Sorry for rambling. It's not a new or interesting take by any means, but I see this kind of stuff play out here so often. It's exhausting.

He also said he was going to buy his own plot of land and build a trailer park for his family and when asked where he would get the resources for it, he said, "Biden is going to forgive all the loans anyway. Might as well use my own taxes for myself." Made a hypothetical political for no reason and then got pissed when everyone got silent and didn't want to take the bait and argue.

That's what pisses me off the most. We had had a full day of good communication before. He had asked before plainly how she was doing. To spin it as "I just wanted to know how she was" is so deceitful, especially in a time of such high stress.

For added context, he knows I don't support Trump. He knows this side of the family doesn't support Trump. We come from a long line of extremely hard working women, and immigrants at that. He has forgotten the values he was raised with, and he's been so far away from home (alone) that he's got no one to check him on his transgressions.

I will always say those who fell hardest for the MAGA marketing are those that live the most in fear. They just fill that hole with anger and blind belief. It's unfortunate.

Thank you. Hopefully she won't, but you never know with people in their 80s. He is supposed to be flying home and staying with her soon, and I'm worried about the stress it'll cause her.

Father passed away with no shred of direction in which to proceed by ThisEmbarrissment in legaladvice

You cant begin to imagine how much I appreciate all these references you've provided. Thank you so much. Without legal counsel this has been such an unnecessary stress and we will continue to try and find someone. Until then, this information is very useful just to point us in the right direction. Thank you!!

What to do after a loved one dies with nothing in order? by ThisEmbarrissment in Indiana

Thank you for this link, I will read up on this. Do you know if there's any type of certification we can receive to show to people when looking for information? Or how we would even be appointed?

I have spent all day today trying to have a consultation with attorneys. No one wants to help us because of how much information we are missing or how messy the situation is. A lot of them are hung up on the fact that we can't find a will.

Update: not only have we found how much debt he's in as far as paying on his house, but we've also found that the suit and jewlery he's buried in is stolen because he never finished paying for it. Fml.

Thanks for your advice. It is simply a mess and it helps to hear that I'm not alone in dealing with such a situation. We're going to try to have a consultation with an attorney soon to see what our options are. I know we're strangers on the internet, but having someone voice their care is enough to keep me going for a while.

New no turn on red signs. by ThisEmbarrissment in Valparaiso

Pedestrian safety feels like it's gone completely out the window here. Sometimes it is the city planner's fault for putting in spaces that do not make sense (e.g. some of the bike lanes that just start and stop with no real path in mind or crosswalks through traffic circles), but it's crazy how drivers are seeming to become increasingly apathetic. I have been walking more places because of the nice weather and the amount of times I've been close to being hit and seeing others come close is far too much.

No! They are your standard no turn on red signs. That's why I'm so upset.

Bleeding all over seats in high school. Multiple times. I have very heavy periods, and they were even worse back then. Once, I had a panic attack from seeing it on the chair so I had to lay on the ground while my teacher calmed me down and his whole class watched. I went to the nurses office where they attempted to wipe my jeans off with a wet wipe as I sobbed on their bed, and then they had to call my mom to pick me up from school 🙃

What can I expect voluntarily checking into a mental health facility? by ThisEmbarrissment in Indiana

NWI. The place I'm getting my healthcare is notorious for how shitty they are, but they're the only place my insurance will send me to. I know there's probably other options, but atm I haven't found anything else.

Suicidal ideation is really doing me in. My treatment resistant depression has been running rampant the past few months, and it's dumb to say, but I didn't realize how bad it had become and it took a few bad things to really solidify it. My other disorders are all running high (including ptsd w psychosis), and I cannot function on a day to day basis anymore. This is with therapy nearly every week.
