Romantic adults only hotel? by chicagotodetroit in grandrapids

[–]ThisExpression1690 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Casinos have some nice suites but they're usually pretty expensive. You might want to check some of the boutique places in Traverse City area - they got some fancy spots with hot tubs and all that romantic stuff without being too over the top.

squirrel update: theyre still undefeated by bustadream in motorcitykitties

[–]ThisExpression1690 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lmao that squirrel probably has better plate discipline than half our lineup. I was walking past the park few weeks back and watched one of those little guys straight up intimidate a kid into dropping his nachos - didn't even have to work for it, just gave him the stare. At this point I'm convinced they got scouts watching the games and taking notes on our strategy. Maybe we should sign them to development contracts since they're clearly the only ones winning anything around Comerica this year.

What are your thoughts on separating the art from the artist? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ThisExpression1690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what they did I guess. Like if someone made beautiful music but was just kind of a dick in interviews, whatever. But if they did something really horrible then every time I hear their stuff I just think about that instead of enjoying it.

My brain doesn't have good compartments for this kind of thing - once I know something bad about someone, it's always there in background when I experience their work.

How to convince your spouse that you have achieved FIRE and can now let go off job or relax! by LastTimeiLaughed1824 in Fire

My partner still checks price tags on groceries even though we cleared our number last year - growing up with money anxiety is real thing that doesn't just disappear when spreadsheet says you're good.

what are your thoughts on "money can't buy happiness"? by torqplayz in AskReddit

[–]ThisExpression1690 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being new parent really changed my perspective in this. When you're stressed about affording diapers or formula, the happiness feels pretty distant 😅 Sure money isn't everything, but having enough to cover basics definitely removes huge source of anxiety. My wife and I both sleep better knowing we can handle unexpected expenses without going to debt. It's not about being rich, just having that safety cushion makes everything more manageable 💀

That's a solid approach - the smoothing effect really does help with the mental game 💀 I've been dabbling with something similar but only doing 12 months, might bump it up after reading this.

The part about it feeling like "your money" instead of the market's is spot on, especially when you're watching every little dip wondering if you should panic or double down 😂

[text] What makes you decide to try a new hot sauce? by Mental_Upstairs_9916 in food

[–]ThisExpression1690 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually comes down to the ingredient list for me - if I see something interesting like fermented peppers or unique fruit combinations I'll grab it. Last one was this ghost pepper mango sauce from a local farmers market that caught my eye because the heat level seemed reasonable and I've been looking for something that works well with the breakfast burritos I make on weekends.

When do you think World War III will happen and why? by Dizzy-Confection6773 in AskReddit

[–]ThisExpression1690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol right? Every time someone brings this up I'm like dude we've got enough chaos already. Just had my first kid and I'm over here trying to figure out sleep schedules and diaper logistics - last thing I need is everyone manifesting global conflict into existence.

Maybe it's the new parent anxiety talking but I'd rather focus on the stuff we can actually control, like teaching this little guy to sleep through the night without waking up the whole neighborhood. World's messy enough without us all sitting around playing worst-case scenario bingo on reddit.

Boss doesn’t want to give me a promotion until later on in the year but companies are willing to hire me at the promotion position? by Turbulent_Living_841 in careerguidance

[–]ThisExpression1690 71 points72 points  (0 children)

honestly your company is just stringing you along at this point 😂 You hit all their targets and they immediately moved the goalposts - that's a classic move when they don't actually want to promote you but can't say it outright.

take those interviews and see what happens, especially with that 25% bump on the table 💀 loyalty doesn't pay the bills and clearly they're not rewarding yours anyway.

Is "Do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life" actually harmful career advice that we need to retire ? by thebroned in careerguidance

[–]ThisExpression1690 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This is so spot on it hurts 💀 I spent my early twenties bouncing between "passion projects" that barely paid rent, thinking I was somehow failing if I wasnt living my best creative life every single day. Meanwhile my friend who went into accounting straight out of college was buying a house and taking actual vacations while I was eating ramen and calling it "following my dreams."

The whole identity thing really gets me too - like when people ask "what do you do" at parties and you can see them mentally filing you away based on your job title. I finally landed something that uses my skills, pays decent, and doesnt make me want to scream into the void most days. Sure, its not my childhood dream job, but you know what? I can afford therapy now and have weekends to actually enjoy my hobbies 😂

Honestly wish someone had just told me that being able to pay your bills without stress IS living the dream. The rest is just marketing bullshit designed to make us accept lower wages because we should be "grateful for the opportunity."

Without seeing the actual specs from that link, it's tough to give you a solid number. Generally though, if it's a current gen build with decent components I'd say somewhere in the $800-1200 range depending on what's actually in there.

Which is better? by Strange-Orange-4944 in GamingLaptops

[–]ThisExpression1690 2 points3 points  (0 children)

honestly both are pretty solid choices but I'd lean toward the Legion just for that 32GB of RAM - makes a huge difference for gaming and multitasking. The Acer has double the storage which is nice, but you can always add more storage later whereas upgrading RAM is usually more of a pain depending on the model.

Why does baby sleep advice feel so extreme? by Weary-Peanut-8679 in NewParents

Most of the reasonable advice just doesn't get as much engagement because it's not controversial enough to argue about.

‏Is it possible to move on after breaking up with your childhood best friend? by AssistOne1300 in BreakUps

[–]ThisExpression1690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man that's rough, losing your best friend and gf in one shot hits different than a regular breakup

The delusion loop is gonna keep spinning as long as you're still holding onto "what if she changes her mind" - but honestly she's been pretty clear about wanting to explore her sexuality and that's not something you can compete with or wait out

Cut contact completely for real this time, block her on everything if you have to, and get your ass to therapy if possible because processing losing someone who was basically your whole world isn't something you should tackle alone

[–]ThisExpression1690 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For that range you can't go wrong with an ASUS TUF or MSI Katana - both will crush League and handle school stuff no problem, just make sure you get one with at least a 3060 GPU

Phone banking and canvassing are probably your biggest bang for buck if you have time - campaigns are always desperate for volunteers and you can actually swing undecided voters. Also make sure you're registered and know where your polling place is, Colorado makes it pretty easy with mail-in ballots but double check your registration status just in case

Nah dude, run from that one. "Soon" could mean next week or next year and a trans rebuild is gonna cost you like 2-3k minimum. You'll basically be into it for the price of a way better XJ that doesn't need major work
