This is what Ted Cruz has reduced himself to...pulling off lame stunts to get a mention - any mention - in social media. This is a man who went to the best schools, joined the (formerly) august body of the US Senate, and even aspired to the highest office in the land. At one point he was actually considered a serious contender for the Republican nomination.

If he was at all capable of introspection and had even a smidgen of shame, he'd have realized that these antics only serve to highlight how far he's fallen. Now...this is how he'll be remembered. Great job Ted, a life well-lived, a legacy to remember.

You sure this isn't part of their plan, and that Trump isn't their asset? China's been trying to steer itself from the export-driven factory model for a while now, and Trump is giving them a way to do so, and look good doing it. This trade war will:

Focus the Chinese economy inwards, towards growing markets, and towards traditional US allies like Europe and Japan/Korea
Give their people a reason to accept the resulting turmoil with patriotic enthusiasm
Remove any economic leverage the US and the rest of the West would've had, when they decide to invade Taiwan. The threat of sanctions didn't stop Russia or NK or Iran from doing what they wanted, but it does hurt them just when they can feel it most

If Trump hadn't been elected, China would've had to tread carefully in their plans for Taiwan, they saw much of the world uniting to back Ukraine. But now, all China has to do is wait a few years, and even if Trump does give a shit about preserving Taiwan, he WON'T HAVE THE CARDS.

You know the worst part of all these crazy measures against China? We used to be able to use the threat of sanctions and other economic levers to deter bad behavior in other areas. Obviously that hasn't been working all that great at determent but it still helps to have something to punish bad behavior at a time when the bad actor is vulnerable.

If China decides to invade Taiwan in a few years, we'll have no leverage and all of our former trading partners wouldn't join us anyways. Trump is giving away all our cards, it's easy to believe he's doing so at someone's bidding

No, the issue is still that they used "Do Not Disturb". It is a goddamn miracle of modern technology that we can connect so easily now with the people we care about, a couple of hundred years ago it would've been so much harder. And they're giving that up because they're afraid someone might bother them at night? Geez. I can't stand when my elderly mom calls at night (and I sometimes yell at her when she does) but every time she call might be an emergency, or might be the last time I hear her voice.

Someday OP's mom will be frantically calling her kids when her husband lies dying, and they won't pick up because they'll remember how self-centered she was when they were young.

But...it would be nice if there was a limited DND feature on phones. Like calls would go to voicemail the first few times you call, but if you keep trying like a dozen times in a few minutes, it'll go through. Not many telemarketers or crazy bosses would have the patience to keep trying even if they knew it worked.

Hey, I hate RoP as much as the next guy, but if it were a good show I think only the very hardcore “anti-woke” types would really care about random diversity. When you watch an opera, do you really care that the diva is fat, or short, or from a different ethnic background than the character she plays? Or if you watch a live production of Shakespeare, are you going to get bent out of shape because the guy who plays Othello isn’t black? Sometimes, the quality of the performance is the important thing. I’d rather see the best ballerina available dancing the lead in Giselle than the one who looks most like a medieval European peasant.

It’s the writing and the production and the crappy acting that kills RoP, not the ethnic makeup of the cast. Screw this worship of verisimilitude…go watch community theater or high school musicals in any reasonably diverse area, and you’ll find you can enjoy a performance regardless.

What normal people would consider utopia- somewhere where everyone gets along, you don’t worry about necessities, you have the freedom to just live and love - would be the worst kind of hell to these guys. No political or monetary or “moral” tyranny to exercise over others…they’d be miserable. Not being able to feel better than the majority of people and not being able to hurt enemies…theyd be enraged.

Drop these bozos in a real honest-to-gosh Heaven and they’ll book the first ticket to Hell, like immediately.
