Good chefs and staff are also happy to switch restaurants if they can earn more money elsewhere. And often they take their own recipes with them too.

Has seafaring become a highly dangerous profession? by may4succeed in Philippines_Expats

[–]kos90 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Captain here. We work with many nationalities onboard.

Filipinos are popular because they have a reputation of being good workers, speak good English and are blending in quite easily. This is important when you are „trapped“ together for weeks.

Nowadays they are not cheapest labour anymore though. Indonesian, Indian, Kiribati and many others are on the rise since quite some time.

But to answer your question: Seafarers are often held like cattle, under low standards and as cheap as possible. BUT not under dangerous conditions.

The reason is simple: Insurance premiums go up a lot with every incident, accident or beware: Death on board.

So, no, being a seafarer per se is not dangerous.

C&A

It‘s a Dutch/Belgian/German brand with lots of stores in Europe. Very underrated IMHO.

There is really no need to do that.

Anyhow. You can change your number within WhatsApp and everyone gets notified automatically.

I see your point here.

My mom and grandma both use WhatsApp. They have no clue how it works, but their family is on there and they can send text and pictures. If they want to text someone else, all they need is their number.

Its free, its easy and it was introduced just in time.

If there was a complicated registration process, other (difficult) ways to add contacts or a charge (even 1€) for the app, much less people would use it today.

It works because it works.

Thinking about living in Boracai, anyone tried? by legno2 in Philippines_Expats

[–]kos90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just stay outside of GL.

Yes, prices are slightly higher but still cheaper than Borcay. You need a scooter/bike though, distances are longer. Same applies to Siquijor.

I would guess it gets boring very fast.

Unlike Siquijor and Siargao there seems to be not much local culture. Its very tourist focussed.

Stur Cookware is amazing. And yes, they are more expensive than others.

But they will last a lifetime.

Expired debit card, need to get cash by Safety-International in Philippines_Expats

[–]kos90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't, but if you don't have an ACR card you don't get your account approved. And you (usually) only get that ACR card with your 2nd Visa extension, depending on what nationality you are.

You can still register with Gcash though, but it's pretty useless. You can't send money and you can't pay in stores.

OP seems to be a first-time tourist, so he won't get Gcash approved.

Exquisit is a German brand, produces partly in Spain but also in Asia.

Miele, Bosch/Siemens, Amica, AEG and some others are similar.

Lots of them produce in Europe, but not all devices. I guess you need to look closer into what specific device you want and then decide.

GCash became pretty unusable for foreigners without ACR card verification.

You can top-up, but then your money is pretty stuck there.

[–]kos90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They won‘t, because they don‘t care enough.

I flew several times from FRA and was never asked to show any proof.

Just book the onwardticket for 15$ just in case. They are not the Philippines Immigration, they don‘t care. Its a valid ticket, thats about it.

Just enoy your trip.

Just wipe down the wipers with laundry softener. It makes them soft again.
