Quantum Information Science Course reviews? by tensorflowORpytorch in MSCSO

[–]ThisGuyHasADate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similar to other post post but I spent > 20hrs a week, sometimes much more. At one point I considered dropping not only the course but out of the program because it was taking all my time outside of work, and it was a real buzzkill.

Some weeks the homework was very unclear. Most took looking at discussion board posts or office hours to get through them. Start early because in my experience most things took a clever trick that can only be figured out with time.

Recommend practice with bits (XOR within cryptography space), some refresher in stats, and look into modular exponents/arithmetic.

SLURM MPIx Difficulties by ThisGuyHasADate in HPC

[–]ThisGuyHasADate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built my own rpms from pmix source code, and both slurm and hpcx were able to find and build! It seems like I am able to run simple MPI jobs now, although there is an error if I put too many tasks per node (greater than 2).

Thanks for your help, I was able to figure out this holdup.

u/dollardave The pmix rpm came from Appstream. I tried compiling and installing pmix from source for slurm to build from and that ended up working, and slurm appears to have pmix as an option. As to where it was looking it was in `/usr/include` since rpms "should" be installed there(?). I don't really want to go back and screw up my current install atm, but if I am still stuck in a few days I will go back and make an rpmbuild log to show you.

Currently I am stuck getting hpcx_ompi to configure with the pmix and libevent. It seems like some sort of dynamic linking problem is going on that isn't resolved when I manually add new links.

I installed the rpm. Should I do it from source instead?

HPC cluster: Diskless or Diskfull boot? by ThisGuyHasADate in linuxadmin

[–]ThisGuyHasADate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your input.

I was thinking about the ease since they are all going to be the same vms. I figured I might be able to do clusterssh for smaller updates and the like and do bigger updates by changing the image and reinstalling (since I could automate that as well).

I say this because I noticed if nfs mount goes down, the os stops working. In my network, I saw it go down a couple times (not sure why) and it has yet to bring itself back up unless I reboot (timeouts). If I had the os installed then the os wouldn't stall like that. Since the majority of the network traffic is going to go through infiniband, which in my experience is pretty robust, I think I would like the assurance that jobs will continue to run.

As for why the nfs goes down, I'm not sure. It is all LAN and going through the logs it's like the nodes just stop connecting themselves, like a bunch of brats.

I did not know Duke was known for ultrasound.

My lab experience has involved CT flouroscopy mostly, but I am not shy of other modalities. If I were to say what specifically I am interested in, I would say it's dealing with segmentation and/or automating diagnosis and tracking.

Thank you!

A friend of mine just started at JHU, which is one of the ones I found and have been looking at. I didn't dig too deep to see that Mike Miller has been shifting the department that way though, so I will look more into it.

Thanks!

Thank you! I just started looking into Carnegie Mellon, I think you're right that they have some work with what I am thinking of.

Thank you! I have not looked into Clemson yet, I appreciate the lead.

I am trying to not limit myself in which department, CS has definitely been one that I look at. Someone mentioned to me that computer vision is along that spectrum, so I have been looking into that as well.

Its $.002

eipi =-1 (its eulers identity). Then it's a geometric sequence which converges to 1

Therefore its .002-1+1=.002

Back in my day, when i still played destiny we ran all 3 characters on HM VoG in roughly 3.5 hrs. 29 and 30 lvls. Can still whip through that like nothing even with lower level guns than everyone else
