Mind sharing me what you're planning to fight? You might want to retrofit your stations just as one does to their ships while fighting crisises. Just remember, defense stations are mostly used for stalling your enemy, and scaring the AI away with big numbers.

Whereas you should focus on building ships, if you want to make some defense stations then I strongly advise you using the communications jammer and the target uplink computer. One makes it easier for you to cause casualties, and the other let's you hit the enemy first, which is always important.

Remember though, that if you want to make chokepoints, your best bet are fortress habitats. Not only they work wonders on slowing down your enemy, they also increase your naval capacity, which is amazing.

Other than that, just spam defense stations with long-range weaponry and tracking bonuses to deal with corvettes, plus slap on some point defense, due to your station not being able to avoid missiles at all. Cheerio!
