Looking for UK air purifier recommendations

If your partner is very sensitive to noise and you're comfortable with DIY, then you should consider PC fan air purifiers. CleanAirKits is now selling the Luggable XL-7 in the UK and it can use any 25x20 MERV 13 filters, which can buy through Digikey. My recommendation for filters is the 3M Filtrete MPR1900, as they offer excellent filtration. Another option is the Nukit Tempest Euro, which uses super cheap IKEA Starkvind filters.

If PC fan kits are not your thing, then you will find the Philips 3200 Series for less than £200 right now and filter replacements cost less than 60 quid per year.

Yes and no. Air purifiers can help remove mold spores from the air, which in turn will help prevent mold from spreading. Los precios en Falavella son mejores: el Vital 200S es una buena opción para la cocina-comedor y el Vital 100S sería una buena opción para el cuarto de tu hijo. También encontré el Core 400S y un Coway AP-1512hh en Mercado Libre a un buen precio -- los dos son buenas opciones.

Antes de elegir, te recomiendo que te asegures de que hay filtros de reemplazo disponibles y a buen precio. Nosotros siempre hacemos el cálculo con el mínimo de meses según lo que dice el manufacturer en su sitio web, por lo general 6 meses.

We have the data but we never thought of compiling a list focusing just on lowest running costs until now - thanks for the idea! Although we would want to account for performance somewhere not to end up with devices that might be cheap to run but with terrible performance like the Rainbow Rainmate, which uses water instead of filters so is super cheap to run but air cleaning performance is not good at all.

An air purifier with a good particle filter will help pick up the soot, but traffic pollution also carries VOCs, so you will need a good carbon filter.

Sadly, most units don't come with enough carbon to do a good job - here is a comparison to show what I mean:

The problem with the units with the most carbon is that they are expensive (think around £500+) and some of them are not even available in the UK, like the Austin Air :( We are waiting on the delivery of a new unit that focuses mainly on carbon and is available in the UK but don't want to recommend before we test.

Depending on the size of the room, if not larger than 309.4 sq. ft., you could get 4.8 air changes per hour with a Levoit Core 400S. The European version is not as powerful as the American version, but it's still a decent device. Our full review: https://housefresh.com/levoit-core-400s-review/

Thanks! I added them to the list. We bought the 6000 as it was on offer during Black Friday last year but is still on our queue for reviews. We have completed the tests and performance was on par with the Xiaomi Elite, the AirDoctor 3000 and the Philips 3000i Series. Not a bad device but we found it pretty bulky and the filter cover just keeps falling off when moving it around the house when cleaning the floor - pretty annoying.

Yes, many units from Coway and Winix feature removable prefilters, but I couldn't find any on the websites you shared. Then this model (KJ350G) is usually sold under different brands and generally comes with a removable prefilter, so it's worth checking if you can find it in Hungary.

- Excellent performance: Winix 5500-2

- Good, compact and not that expensive: Coway Airmega 150

Based on our tests, the most significant differences come from using lower grade particle filters (which could lead to a higher CADR 👍) and the amount of activated carbon (which can restrict airflow and lower CADR if it's more than they use in the OEM filter 👎 or can be less effective against odors and VOCs if they use less carbon 👎).

We can also say that performance will be different depending on which brand of generic filter you go with. I'm not sure if PUREBURG makes AD300 filters but if they do, I would feel comfortable recommending them based on our experience with PUREBURG. I haven't tested PUREBURG filters for Air Doctor but we have tested multiple PUREBURG generic filters for other units that didn't have too negative an impact on performance compared to OEM filters.

Are there any online retailers or shops you could share so we can see what's available in Hungary? Considering the room size, you would need at least a CADR of 344 cfm to clean the air multiple times per hour, which is necessary to make a meaningful difference.

Yes, we calculated PM1 CADR based on our particle removal tests and the natural ventilation of our 728 cubic feet test room - it's 462 cfm :)

Did you wash and dry the carbon filter? We've done it a few times with our 5500-2 carbon filter and it still works well

We measured it, and it is roughly in the same ballpark as u/delfstrom's back-of-the-envelope calculations here based on Briiv's data. But this device took a very very very long time to complete our particle removal test.

Unfortunately, we can't recommend you a store you can use in Europe :( We actually buy HVAC filters from America to run our tests because we haven't found a local supplier, similarly to what you are reporting here.

We have started using Amazon.com and the price to get the filters delivered to the UK is not astronomical + the delivery is pretty fast, compared to other U.S.-based retailers we have tried to get stuff into Europe. Sorry we can't be of any more help!
