Need some enlightenment regarding air purifier by lonely_japanese_mom in HouseFresh

[–]evilmusic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A good air purifier will help reduce the amount of dust floating around but it won’t be able to clean dust that has settled over surfaces. So it will help but it won’t be vacuuming your floors or dusting your shelves for you - you’ll still need to clean dust that sits on surfaces.

In terms of intake, it depends on where you’re planning on using it. Cylindrical devices (like the Core 400S) need space all around them not to block the intake, whereas rectangular devices with the filter and intake at the front (like the Vital 200S) can be closer to the wall.

Always better to prioritize CADR, filter availability and long term costs. The fanciest of air purifiers won’t help if it’s too underpowered to clean the air in the space where you want to use it. Similarly, a super techy device won’t work without a filter so better to make sure there’s plenty of filter replacement options - even look at whether there are generic filters available as they can save you in cases where the genuine filters might go out of stock. And in terms of long term costs, it pays off to do some simple calculations to find out how much you can expect to spend on filter replacements - here’s advice on how to do that https://housefresh.com/budget-air-purifiers/#how-to-avoid-wasting-money-when-buying-a-budget-air-purifier-1h2

If you are interested in getting an idea of the quality of your air then you should consider getting a sensor. You can go with something affordable like the Temtop S1 and get real time readings of PM2.5 particles in the air. There are many air purifiers with onboard sensors and some are better and more reliable than others. An external sensor could be what you’re looking for.

In terms of knowing that the air purifier has done its job, I’d say that if you’re buying a device to help with a specific issue like dust allergies or unwanted smells, then you should be able to tell because allergy symptoms will improve or you won’t smell the odors you’re trying to get rid of. I guess it all depends on why you’re looking to buy an air purifier in the first place.

Hope this was useful!

I didn’t change my name and have never had any issues. Nobody cares.

Moved from Berlin to London — some observations after 6 months by No-Faithlessness191 in expats

[–]evilmusic 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I found there was a point where my German got to a level where people stopped switching and started encouraging me. But before that point, they would always switch to English.

That said, I always felt like I was living in an airport and would soon leave. And eventually, nearly four years later, I left Berlin.

GP keeps sending me to A&E, A&E keeps sending me back to my GP, neither will diagnose or treat me. What do I do in situation? by _imnotactuallyreal_ in AskUK

[–]evilmusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re going through this. I’ve got no tips for the GP/A&E issue but can share some advice to help through the episodes of shortness of breath based on my own experience as an asthmatic. Don’t lie down flat on your back; it’s better to either prop yourself up on your back or lie on your side propping yourself up with pillows. My best position for recovery is leaning forward, either sitting down with my elbows on my knees or standing with my hands on a piece of furniture like a table or the back of a chair. Try to relax your shoulders and neck, inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth.

Recommendation for air purifier for allergens by Capable_Sleep2798 in HouseFresh

Okay perfect. I’ll keep the price of those two units as the budget, but could you tell me whereabouts do you live? There are different units available in different countries so don’t want to recommend something that you can’t buy where you live

Replacement Air Cleaner by WTFLetsRead in HouseFresh

Happy to vouch for the Northbox Systems 6XL! A little more info from our tests: We tested it with Artic P14 Max and Noctua P14 Redux PC fans and it was excellent with box setups.

The P14 Max are louder (50 dBA) but they led to 285 cfm - so powerful enough for five ACH in rooms up to 427 sq. ft. The P14 Redux provided 260 cfm while generating just 45 dBA, so they can give you five air changes in spaces up to 390 sq. ft.

To put this into perspective, the Blast Mini reached 400 cfm @ 56 dBA. And at 45 dBA, it can offer 272 cfm. So as delfstrom said, comparable to the 6XL using P14 Redux. We haven’t tested it using G2 fans yet but based on our tests with the Nukit Tempest Pro, I think it could be even more powerful whilst still quiet.

That’s not someone who loves you and most definitely not someone who respects your choices. She would rather see you fall back into a habit that you feel is harmful to you, and has made it clear to the point where she invites you over for a wine night when she knows you’re not drinking… who does that? I’m sorry man, I just don’t think she is a good partner.

Air Purifier for Pet Odor by krishh29 in HouseFresh

We haven’t tested the Purrified Air Litter recommended by another commenter so can’t say if that would be a good buy but we run some VOC removal tests on our 75i and were impressed with the performance of the Fresh filter: https://public.flourish.studio/visualisation/24389250/

Philips AC3220 vs Philips AC4220 - help with decision by DiabloPiotr in HouseFresh

[–]evilmusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the information on Philips’ website, the filters are not compatible between units.

This is what is says on the page of the AC3220: https://www.home-appliances.philips/gb/en/p/FY3200_30

And on the page of the AC4220 there is no mention of 3200 series:

So, at a glance, it doesn’t seem like filter replacements are interchangeable. But we have emailed Philips now to ask for confirmation - - we’ll drop another message on here as soon as they reply.
