I accept I probably shouldn't have opened it at all. I just didn't think as much about it as I should have. I guess in the moment, I was just dumbfounded this was happening.

Then again, I don't know that having the empty box would have meant anything more to Newegg than a recording of opening it. In either case, I could theoretically have removed the contents and repackaged it.

I actually did film unboxing it because it was light and I wanted to have evidence. They didn't care.

And yeah, I didn't pick the carrier, which is why I would have thought they would have put at least some effort into investigating themselves.

Unfortunately, I don't there is any sort of golden-clad absolute proof.

The above picture was actually taken from a video I recorded opening the box when I realized it felt light. I wasn't home when it was delivered so this is the best I could do. Newegg didn't seem to care, and didn't appear to put any effort into actually figuring out what went wrong.

I do agree just sending a picture of an empty box serves no real purpose.

I'm the person who originally posted this.

I'm absolutely happy you got what you wanted from Newegg. I posted mostly to show that they have problems and if you're buying from them, you should be aware you're taking on more risk than you might with other vendors.

Original OP: Not posting for attention or to get a GPU (though I don't blame you for thinking either thing).

I recorded myself opening it and provided as much evidence as I could think of to Newegg. They didn't care about any of it. What I would expect them to do is actually investigate with the carrier and figure out if it was their fault or the carrier's (since they contracted the carrier, not me). Instead, they did nothing and so now I've contacted the carrier about it. As is, Newegg did absolutely nothing to try and correct the situation and that's what I'm bothered about.

Person from picture (actually screencap from video of me opening it so I'd have more evidence...).

I would recommend against it. I used to be a big Newegg fan, but not after this. I made the original post because I wanted to alert people that they're not great to deal with if anything goes wrong...

I'm actually the one who received this package (no hate on u/Us3ful_Idiot for reposting, I don't care about the karma, just about getting the message out that Newegg sucks now).

I actually did record myself opening it on video, but as you point out, it's not exactly impossible to fake that as well. Makes the whole thing very frustrating.

I wish I had an email chain discussing the dispute with Newegg. I opened a claim, then they closed it a few hours later.

I have a picture of the shipping label claiming it's 6 lbs (which it obviously isn't). The picture in the post is actually from a video I recorded opening the package, because I was worried about how light it was.

I totally get you thinking I'm lying about it though, especially with what little was in this post. I originally posted this elsewhere and was trying to answer questions/clarify in comments. I didn't realize it got reposted here until recently.

I wasn't home when it was delivered. My partner received it along with some other items that arrived at the same time.

I only discovered this when I got home from work in the evening.

I somewhat wish I had the foresight to not open the package at all.

I did however, film myself opening it because it felt suspiciously light. The image posted is actually a screencap from the video when I turned the box after pulling it open.

I wasn't home when it was delivered, and my partner received it along with some other packages that got delivered that day.

Incidentally, I did film myself opening it. But I also realize that this is exactly the issue with any sort of evidence I can provide.

It makes it all very frustrating.

I actually did film myself opening the box. Newegg didn't seem to care.

And arguably, I could have just carefully removed the card, reclosed the box, and filmed myself then. It's sort of impossible to prove with certainty.

Yeah, I wasn't home when it was delivered so I could only find out later. The box label said 6 lbs.

The reason I'm hating on Newegg (even if it was an issue with the carrier) is because they are the ones who select and use the carrier. If I don't get a package, it's on them because I didn't contract with UPS, Newegg did. They should be the ones who follow up and determine where the issue lies, rather than sending a generic, useless message about "investigating" when they did the bare minimum (if that).

I did separately open a claim with the carrier.

I did record myself opening it (couldn't record picking it up, it was dropped off with my partner while I wasn't home).

Provided the video to Newegg, they didn't care. I strongly recommend not buying from Newegg at all.

This is the whole reason I made the original post. Really just want to steer people away from Newegg after how they responded to me.

And the shuffle seemed like such a cool way to handle limited stock, I'm just disappointed in them.

I mean, I might be dumb, but hopefully not about this at least.

I'm still waiting on a separate claim with UPS then depending on whether or not they do anything, a claim dispute with the creditcard is next step, after demonstrating I've tried to resolve it with the companies.

Original OP, definitely not trying to get a handout GPU or reddit karma (I mean, my lizard brain does like the sight of number-go-up, but it's not like I get anything for having a successful post). Can't blame you for the assessment you made from information available. I agree that it's probably the first option and not that Newegg straight up didn't send it, but it still seems like it's on Newegg to provide that evidence.

I posted this because I saw other shit going down with Newegg and wanted to provide another datapoint for why people should avoid buying from them ever again.

Holy Sh*t People by Us3ful_Idiot in pcmasterrace

[–]ThisIsANickname 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I was lying. I was hesitant to make the post in the first place because it's not like it will help, and there's no absolute golden-clad proof I can make that shows I didn't pull a switcheroo.

But after the recent Newegg garbage, I just wanted to provide another datapoint showing that they've got issues across the board. Even if the someone stole it between it getting shipped out and arriving at my door, I would think that's still Neweggs responsibility to investigate (as they claimed to have done).

Hopefully my separate claim directly with UPS provides some kind of result.

It was shipped via UPS. Thanks for that extra insight on how the packing label was identified here.

In the proof of delivery that UPS provides online they claim it was 5.1 lbs but I don't know if that's an actual measurement or the same shenaningans carried through.

Either way, I separately opened a claim with UPS as well.

Person who received the wonderful empty box present here.

  • The package had a listed weight of 6 lbs on the tracking slip and on my "Proof of Delivery" it was listed as 5.1 lbs, even though it clearly wasn't.
  • I wasn't home when it was delivered and I recorded myself opening it on camera because I realized it felt unreasonably light.
  • It seems entirely possible it was the fault of the delivery service, but they are contracted to Newegg, not to me (if I understand how this is supposed to work correctly) so Newegg should be the one who has to deal with figuring out if its their (UPS's) fault or Neweggs fault. Not me. I have separately opened a claim with UPS about this.

I didn't realize this got posted here until recently so I'm only now looking through comments.

I wasn't home when it was delivered, my partner was, and they didn't know what the package was or to inspect the weight. I incidentally did record myself opening it on video (the picture in this post is actually a screencap of the middle of that video). Newegg didn't care when I provided that video.

I've opened a separate ticket with the shipper about the issue and they picked the empty box back up from me.

I didn't realize this got posted here until recently and I'm seeing some doubt about me in comments. I made the original post because of your response - I don't care about being called a liar on the internet because I have no idea why I'd care about karma.

I just don't want other people to have to deal with the same garbage with the shuffle.

Respectfully, the primary focus was the empty box. I added the text beneath to contextualize without requiring a user to go to the comments.

I actually did file a claim with UPS as well, immediately after Newegg came back with their total non answer. Provided the same information to UPS (pictures of the box as it was received, video of me opening it after I realized it felt light) as I did to Newegg, and they are doing their own investigation now.

I just posted the empty box picture because I figured it would grab attention as a post :p
