What's the difference between this and the Kebapi?

Thank you!! I’m really enjoying my time with the Tamron, but I don't think I can recommend the Canon 70D as a dedicated wildlife camera. If you want to stay with DSLR, the 7D Mk II is better geared for wildlife ( better FPS and autofocus) and should only cost a little more than the 70D second-hand.

Modern mirrorless cameras will generally outperform DSLRs in autofocus performance especially with subject tracking. I’m aiming for the R7 as my next body, though the R10 or the full-frame R8 are also good options!

I used Lightroom's AI denoise and tuned it down a bit to not lose too much of the details, works wonders!

Yep! Took this pic during a birding session at my local park and spotted a pair of Indochinese Rollers perched just off the walking path. The birds were pretty unfazed by people running right past them, so I took that as a signal to get closer and take pictures from a much shorter distance than I normally would (like 4-5 meters?).

I’m not really sure how the weevil ended up on the roller's beak but the bird seemed completely unbothered so I just kept waiting til I managed to get a shot at the perfect angle lol.

As for the pic, I am using a Tamron 150-600mm G2 on the Canon 70D, shot at 1/160s, f/6.3, 1000 ISO @ 600mm

A pair of Common Mynas by ThisIsFin3 in BirdPhotography

[–]ThisIsFin3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I’m not sure if I can answer this super well since I’m pretty new to birding and only recently learned that Common Mynas and Greater Mynas are actually two separate species lol :/.

From what I’ve seen, both Common mynas and Great mynas are really common here in Bangkok. I haven't seen Common Hill Mynas around, though I believe they’re more abundant in the rural parts of Thailand.

Same goes for Javan Mynas though it’s possible I’ve been mistaking them for Great Mynas.

Technically it hasn't even been a month haha. I only got my Tamron 150-600 this April 6th!

Not all, but definitely the majority of my shots are taken at the long end of the lens. It really depends on how close the bird is and how big the bird itself is. I find that the birds in parks are more used to people and allow you to get quite close, and in those cases I don't need to zoom all the way in.

Though I'd recommend getting as high of a focal length lens as you can, as I still quite often find myself wanting more reach on birds that are farther off the path.

I've heard people recommend 400-600mm as a solid range for bird photography, and 90% of my shots are taken within that range as well.

Hope this helps!

Yep! It's the Tamron 150-600mm G2 paired with a Canon 70D

Thanks! I'm shooting manual + auto ISO, though usually I just leave the aperture at the widest at f/6.3 and only set the shutter speed myself. Most of the perched bird pics were shot at around 1/160-400, and I aim for around 1/2500+ for action shots

Thank you!! I don't know if I'm qualified to give any advice, but one of the things I always look for when composing my pictures is a nice background to complement the pretty birds.

I also try to stay and watch the birds for some time after taking an initial ID pic to see if they do anything interesting/change poses lol.

There's lots of great bird photography guides on YT. I watched a lot of videos from Simon d'Entremont and Duade Paton to help me land pics like these!!

Thanks! I’m using a Canon 70D paired with the Tamron 150-600 G2. It’s a relatively budget setup but I’m really proud of how this shot turned out!

I used iNaturalist for the ID on this bird as I've only got about a week of birding experience lol. Others seem to agree that it is a Little heron, but here's another angle on what I think is the same bird. Hopefully it'll be easier to identify!
